not much of a story behind my character name, more lack of...
Misutoraru (From a game or anime) a friend of mine introduce me this character because we share the same real name, been using this in all my MMO since I learn about it
FFXIV require a surname and I dont remember seeing any lore friendly naming thread back in 1.0 (probably there I just wasnt aware), my character was a Lancer and I am a big fan of Valkyria Chronicles
My Forum name: Something I had since grown up in High School. I was just looking for something that stuck and here I am.
Xiaomu - I always liked the name since I first heard it in Project X Zone.
Xiang - A name I always tend to use when creating custom characters, mostly in Koei Warriors games.
when i was like 10 years old i had a name that an alien in a book said it was zugbop
my cousin started using it for his online accounts so i had to make a different one. probably spent like 10 mins... zug... zig... bop... big? pig? pigzig?
since then i never changed it in my whole life
I am 31
Hm, finally a thread my name makes sense in XD
I was watching a movie with Sean Bean in it and then later I heard Estinien talk and I realized that hearing the name Sophia out of Estinien's mouth would be sexy, like Sean Beans accent sexy bc they both have sexy voices that id like to hear more
also, i was an elezen at one point which is why i dont have a lalafell lore friendly name
Final Fantasy IV, 2 on SNES
~Baron Castle
My character's first name was a result of randomization of the character names in character creation due to her originally being a female Viera; the name "Thracie" showed up. Considering I didn't want my character's name to be strictly a Viera name; I had made it in my little headcanon that Thracie had left the wood, feeling as if something was calling to her leave, but due to desiring to keep the name her mother had given her at birth, her first name remained as it is out of sentimentality.
But due to her no longer being apart of the wood, she abandoned her last name (the tribe name, Eryut) and had taken up the name "Treebow". Again, out of sentimentality to her sisters in the wood; "Tree" as a reminder of the forest and "bow" as the bow was a common weapon to use by her mother, although Thracie herself was more adept at using more close range combat; being a WAR, which was the first class I had chosen for her, but once leaving the wood she had taken up the art of stealth and became a prominent NIN.
Of course outside of headcanon reasons, I wanted a name that could fit any race in case I felt the itch to fantasia... which I certainly had multiple times! Will return to the Viera roots though as a male version in which case headcanon for the name might be tweaked a little bit ^.^
Ritsuko is a name I would have given a daughter if I had one. Sonoda is my actual last name because I couldn't be bothered trying to make one up.
It's my real name, I haven't ever met anyone else that shares this name, so I kinda just default to using it most of the times.
I'm fan of Suzuhana Yuko, What else ? And Asuka ? It's a firstname.
She's singer of Wagakki Band and Hanafugetsu.
And no, I'm not fan of Evangelion...

I was Wynter in the closed Alpha of V1 and it was my FFXI name, and then there was a issue on the beta with names so I could not decide between Lulu and Luna but it was going to be Lunula and I did typo and it stayed from then on. I had never seen the name Luluna but I wanted something to do with the Moon and here we are 11 years later :)
Momo cuz the name sounds cute. It is not related to anime/manga characters with the same name, but is more related to my culture on pet-naming. Back in my younger days, I see many people in my place liked to name their pets with names like Lala, Mimi, Kiky, and so on.
Kozuki is a family name that pops up when I need one in game that allows two-part names. It is not related to Momonosuke Kozuki from One Piece.
Yoko is from Gunnm (Battle Angel Alita), Ceres is an asteroid (in the Manga it is where the children's of Mars get a shelter)
).
Random name generator
Rael Levynfang
Rael - Hebrew translation roughly meaning "Lord of Light" if male. "Innocence" if female.
Levin/Levyn - another word for thunder/lightning
Fang - My character orginal started out a Mi'qote. I later changed to a Roe but I've loved the name all these years that I had it.
The Username 'Lexis' comes from my old Vanilla WoW days where 'Lexis' was my main character, a human rogue. He was eventually remade as a blood elf priest and I kept him around all these years, meaning people have been calling me that for almost 15 years now so that's what I tend to default to as a username. Either that or 'Cerberus', which was another WoW character or mine I played almost as much as Lexis. Both of those names are even older than that though, they actually originated from some old WWE wrestling game and stayed with me since then throughout my gaming journey.
As for my main character's name: Lu'kas Steinfheld. That one has a more recent origin and the character was originally called Lexis Belmont, back when I created him in 2014. I quit the game after a few months and came back to FFXIV with the recent influx of players, at which point I created a new 'Lexis' on Leviathan to play with WoW friends. After getting to 80 and going through the story on that character, I decided to start playing my old main a bit on the side but didn't want to play the exact same character twice, so I bought a name change, used a bottle of fantasia I had lying around and, after lots of fiddling around in the character creator, I landed on this lil' catboy named after a Tabletop RPG character of mine: Lucas Steinfeld. I tried to 'catify' his name a bit only to learn, the very next day, about the actual Miqo'te naming convention and realized I done goofed. I wasn't about to pay for another name change so I decided to keep it as is, especially since it was just an alt. Or so I thought.
Then I discovered the /joy emote, my heart skipped a beat and now little Lu'kas is my forever main.
Not much of a story for me. I just use the same name for every game and my Twitter and stuff. I use my clan tag as my first name PMS (all girl gaming clan) and I use my real name Jordan as my last name in game.
Thanks

Good discovery
Wagakki Band is great. Their performances together with Amy Lee are also very interesting.
As for my name, quite simple. First name is directly from Escaflowne. Last name is also from Escaflowne, but with 1 letter changed because I think it sounds better considering the character in Escaflown is a princess of Asturia (so Astor I feel makes more sense than Aston)
My name is simple, its the name of my Fursona. Yes, I'm a furry! And my fursona is really just the Furry me but I wasn't about to use my RL name... Mind I have about 3-7 alts I play in addition each with different reasons for their names.. My male lala is named after my deceased rl friends D&D character (Ilither), My female lala is named after my grandmother (Crystal-also deceased), My Miqo female named after the cat my sister and I had(Tishaba) My Hrothgar after a cartoon character (Kimba the White Lion- Kimba Snow) and my soon-to-be Bunny boy named after an anime character (Carrot Glace-Sorcerer Hunters), Elric Melinbone (My Au'Ra, after Michael Moorcock's character of the same name) and finally One named Luna Silvanyte, named after the guildmaster of the first MMO I played, Ever Quest, Lunasilva
BTW, yes, 1/2 of them have finished the MSQ and are ready for EW... well.. almost 4.. Ilither still has a few SHB quests to wrap up, but is essentially done.
Anyone who knows me can tell you about the long list of stupid usernames I've had over the years. 'Negative Space' and 'The Flow of Space' are the most recent ones, though one I only really use when the other isn't available for whatever reason.
The former came from an artsy friend of mine who said the art concept of 'negative space' fit my personality, and it stuck even though I'm not that artsy.
The latter came from when I was making a Twitch account, but NegativeSpace and Negative_Space were obviously already taken. What else do I like? Nature. What does nature tend to do? I dunno, flow? I was not completely sober at the time, but The_Flow_of_Space was chosen. (Note: Not a plug, I don't stream)
And now I use one or the other for almost everything online. When I first joined FFXIV, I saw that you could have a first and last name, and so the Rogaedyn known as Negative Space was born.
Fitting, because a lot of people just refer to me as Negative, and I can't get enough of being called Mr. Space.
I like ffix, like a lot, so Burmecia.
tl;dr bunch of words which i thought looked cool, stolen and made into character names
Let's see. My most played characters in ShB. I have no fantasia problem but instead I have alt problem, some of which I'll level up and gear properly, and some which I just don't
Garekin Hargal: literally my first character in the game, literally just some cool looking nonsense. Since he is sun-miqo I could change his name to G'arekin Tia or something, but for now he is just gonna stay like that.
Found the name from one of those 'here's some names!' sites, which literally described it like: "Old Armenian name of unknown meaning."
Ikaruga Kurai: I had a phase where I named a bunch of alts after birds, but sneakily. The name actually has connection to the shoot-em-up vg which I never played, as wiki mentions this bit of trivia about the game: "Ikaruga is the Japanese name for the Japanese grosbeak, a bird species." - Wikipedia
When I retired that first Ika, who was raen au'ra and begun raiding as xaela au'ra, my static of the time gave me idea to namechange back to Ika, because the name Ika generally had become the name everyone called me in raiding context. But since the au'ra was xaela now instead of raen it had to be "dark Ika".
Jitah'li Habhoka: RP character with RP-like name. Since moon-miqo NPCs have ffxi reference names left and right, his last name is just grabbed from ffxi too.
V'arekai Tia: RP character for private rp on infinite hiatus, but I bought him a house in ShB, so he was important enough for me to go through that house buying nonsense. Just another cool random word I learned from Cirque du Soleil's touring production, named Varekai. "Its title means "wherever" in the Romani language." - Wikipedia.
First rl name is Doc...Seraph I just yanked from the sky lol kupo :p
I'm sure I commented this before, but I can't find it in the old posts, so I 'll comment again. and Add all my Mains, and important Alts.
For starters, the Post ID name: "GothicShark" Well it's legally my Middle Name ( My Legal Name is R**** Mary Gothic Shark W**** I put Gothic Shark into my legal name as I was doing a legal name change as a part of my transition. ) Gothic is my aesthetic, music, and way of thinking about life the universe and everything. Shark relates to my time in the USMC when I was in Force Recon in the Early 90s I was a "Shark in the Water" and it became a nickname at that time.
Character Names:
Most my Characters have been named Mary or a version of Mary ie Mariel, Marielle, Marhiel, Marhielle...etc. This relates to why my middle name is Mary. Both my Grandmothers were Mary. It's simple and I wanted to give the maternal side of my family more credit.
Main Characters:
Marielle Sansoleil
https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodes...acter/11396447
Mary Sunless. My Elezen was named using Elezen naming conventions. Her first name is the overly complex French version of Mary, and her Last name is from French Sans Soleil. Sans = Without, Soleil= Sun.
Mary Jigoku
https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodes...cter/29818998/
Mary Hell. My Au Ra, Mary -> Mariel -> Marhiel -> Mary Hell -> Mary Jigoku (Hell in Japanese).
Caitlyn'bhump Aliapoh
https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodes...cter/29836232/
Ok this is a bit more complicated. Long ago in an MMO lost in time City of Heroes, I had made an Alt that was purely for random fun, I closed my eyes hit Random 3 times, hit accept name used a random name method. (Head to keyboard) The character was a black skinned Cat Girl in a bright Yellow Pirate Costume while being a Katana Scrapper. Jokenly I RP'd her as a Space Pirate Amazon Ninja Catgirl aka (S.P.A.N.C.) yes the Silly Card Game. For fun any game with catgirls afterwards I would make her as a house Joke. But last year as Cabin Fever started, I decided to write a fan fiction in FFXIV using Bhump as the MC. So I decided to make a Lore fitting name. So I renamed Bhump to Caitlyn Aliapoh, putting Bhump as her Nick Name. Aliapoh as it's the most common Keeper last name, and Caitlyn because "Cat" is the common nick name for Caitlyn. So you can call her "Cat Bump" as her nick name.
RP: She's an Isekai transgender Catgirl. Born in 2030 in the Bay Area, to North African and Latin parents, Azeem Garcia lived in a world that was dying, the Phantoms had all but killed most life on Earth. Azeem went to bed one night with his husband and woke the next day in a wagon heading to Ul'dah.

Main Alts -
Mary Winter

Me IRL as a Ninja Maid - Femro because I'm tall and look like a Femro IRl, Winter because it's my favorite time of year.
Mary Wintere
https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodes...cter/37934312/
Me as a Black Mage, same as Mary Winter on a different server.
Mehy Gumine
https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodes...cter/39216328/
Konosuba Megumin - I Even made a Macro that has her cast Flare with a long speech and then pass out as soon as it hits a target.
Bhump Dabhump
https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodes...cter/12886768/
Bhump in her Yellow Glory. Just saying she's kind of perfect, and random.
Ashett Tholl
https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodes...cter/22837444/
I wanted a Dwarf from the first, I wanted an NB RP Dwarf from the First, I wanted them to be able to enter the Dwarf house, and do a proper Lali-ho! Their name was specifically designed to be Lore Correct and gender neutral. Helmets on, Ale is consumed, adventure awaits.
Saroirse Ban'draoithe
https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodes...cter/22837683/
Saoirse = Irish for Freedom, Ban-Draoithe = Irish for Wise Woman. The idea is her name means she is a Free Wise Woman. RP - Female Irish James Bond.
Smashing the random name button in Everquest until I came across something I didn't immediately hate. It sorta stuck as I moved from game to game with the same group of people.
Chanze came from when the first time I went healer in wow they said they would take a chance on me and well that stuck as my priest name.
Leigh came from what my son's name would have been if he was a girl.
Lexie is another one of my healer names from wow just because I love that name.
I tried to give my character a name I use in a few other games but the man wouldn't let me so I chose the next coolest name possible.
