I don't think it's derogatory to say lalafell look like toddlers, because to me they do. However, the implication that people who like playing such a race are creeps is nonsense. I think this is what people are most upset about. The people who are accusing others of having socially unacceptable thoughts are just virtue signaling and feel a false sense of self righteousness. The overreaction is just ridiculous. No one who plays lalafell really think these disturbing things, it's only the ones who accuse these players who do. Like I said, they're just projecting. They think just because they have sick thoughts, other people must think the same way. That's not how it works, and it sounds like a personal problem they need to sort out.

Apparently reading comprehension isnt your forte. I said you had your say - meaning Ive read and understood your opinion on the matter, much like many of us here. Now that your thoughts have been stated, and a fair some of us here have dismissed your opinions, there is no more real reason for you to share the same opinion just rephrased unless you have something different to share. I'm going to report this thread and hope it gets closed. Everything was answered earlier and now it's just people being condescended to and insulted (specifically by one user). The last insult towards me had nothing to do with this topic, and I wasn't even engaging with the user who posted it. Maybe I wanted an emoticon a couple years back, idk I don't remember, but I'd appreciate it if people stopped replying to anyone who is trolling, off topic and/or unable to continue the conversation without being civil.

When I say rude, I mean a behavior that is reportable or violates the TOS. That is why the game allows looking up a skirt, running half naked or patting someone, since is not a reportable behavior (Using emotes on someone after they explicitly asked you not to multiple times is a different case and is rude and reportable).

This is a game, and people should stop treating it as if it's real life. Some already took it too far asking for consent before using an emote.

There will always be a few bad apples out there. But honestly, it really does come across like psychological projection when they assert Lalafell players have certain traits without any evidence. Just play what you enjoy, and if anyone does this, just ignore them, they aren't worth your time.

As someone who plays a Lalafell myself, and knows a lot of people who play Lalafell, I have seen plenty of reasons for people playing Lalafell. Including

• The sense of speed
• Taking on bosses and foes way bigger than you
• Like the aesthetic
• Like the emotes/voices
• Looks good in the glam they want
• Hard to target in PvP
• A different perspective
• People who are very tall irl, and seek escapism from it, with Lalafells being the opposite.
• Short people irl, who play it because they find Lalafells the most relatable
• Roleplayers who just wanted to play a Lalafell

As for Lalafell petting, I really don't mind people petting me. So feel free to.

Yes, this is how I got into my love for the small species in every game myself. In 2010 (when I established my "Midgets first" rule), I was playing a freshly League of Legends and picked Tristana as my first champ ever. Her confidence and everything around her personality was nice compared to the "cute Kawaiii dolls" I've seen before. When I was killing Dr. Mundo (another from the starter roster) who was arguing pretty much like Omymy in this thread, I started to enjoy that so much.

I'm glad this thread was made. It's a real issue, and you've made everyone aware of it. I think users that can't stay civil should be reported and not the thread.

We should have ignored such posts since the beginning instead of feeding him with the attention he wants. That's all they're here for. Don't feed the trolls.

I'm glad to see the topic continue so nicely and calmly. I've also blocked the person who wasn't able to discuss the subject civilly. I'm hoping other people did or do the same so other topics aren't made toxic like this one had gotten. The FFXIV forums don't deserve to turn into that and (more importantly) members don't deserve to be treated as poorly as they were being.

Out of curiosity, how are you feeling about the situation now, I hope none of you wishes to move away from being a Lala just because others dislike the race and just feel the need to scream loudly about it.

I've never actually experienced that before, though I do know people who have actively disliked me being a Miqo'te in the past, I only switched to one for a week or so lol. And of course, jokes of Viera being 'furry race' - but that's easy to shrug off since I don't actively give a flying carrot about what other people tend to think about how my blooming internet avatar looks like.

Note; by experience, I mean someone full on despising a race to the point it goes beyond the comical to the 'bruh what is wrong with you'

I'm not changing races anytime soon since having fun glamouring it. All the bluky outfits/costumes/long dresses that I didn't like on my miqo'te look adorable on lalas. I'm missing some of the outfits that looked good on my miqo'te though, so I'll either switch back at some point (maybe buy a stack of fantasia to go back and fourth) or maybe revive my alt account since she's a miqo'te. That way I can dress her up whenever I feel like it. Ngl half the game for me is glamouring. xD

I know here are so many different characters, attitudes and simply people involved, so I can only speak for myself here, but not everyone playing a Lalafell is living in a Kawaiiiii UwU fairytale bubble, but also mature, adult people. That's why I am a bit allergic to certain assumptions and accusations being made.

I am a department chief at work with a handful of people below me, working in a "no-go area" with drugged, drunken people every day - apart from the regular aggressive German customers. You see more cops and mall security than shoppers (slight exaggeration). In my 12 years in my career I've stood my ground for so many times that I really grew a thick skin which helps to live an easier and careless life. Do you know how easy it is to be relaxed about such things in online environments then?

Also, I have been socialized before the internet, so I do not care about shitstorms, dislikes or other online reputation. My reputation's goal is to be 100% honest, even if I stand alone with my opinions, then be it.

I love my Zedek, he is perfect. Perfect look, perfect specis, race (Plainsfolk), size (92cm), professions (Red Mage and Scholar), hairstyle, haircolour. I dropped all my other accounts in other MMOs to come back for RDM. And I am here to stay. From the sole of my RDM leather boots up to the tip of the feathered tricorn, my Lalafell is perfect to me. This enjoyment I get from FFXIV thanks to him is so solid that no insult could penetrate this perfectness and self-confidence of my 52-year old aging midget.

That's why I won't change ever. Which was a part of the question. I know in times of Facebook and small attention spans, taking longer or typing more to add emphasis for something is seen as strange, but hey, you can think of Pokémon quotes as much as you wish.

Have not read through the entire thread, just wanted to point out a few things:

Yoshi-P plays a Lala. Publically. Live. During live talks. Go ahead folks, attack him for his choice without understanding modern Japanese culture.

Playing a Lalafell is almost (not entirely), almost a guarantee not to be harassed by ERP players on most of the servers on the Crystal Data Center. (Also, have not experienced any problems on most EU servers as well.)

FFXIV's ToS has a section on other players interfering with your enjoyment of the game. Being "bullied" in game regarding your choice of playable race is a violation and reportable. If you're in game, feel free to report if you've politely asked them to stop. If you don't want the hassle of navigating the report player system, you can at least put them on blacklist, walk away and not worry about them again.

If someone here, on the forum or in game is giving you grief about your choice of character, that says MORE about them, than you. They are not worth the time you spent listening to them.

It's not about you, it's not personal. It's their issue. Period.

I'm a guy irl, married 32 years, play the same male lalafell in game for 4 or 5 years now. Don't ERP. Don't get creepy with other people's female avatars. This anti-lalafell nonsense baffled me until I finally concluded:

There is a set of people in game, presumably male, who feel entitled to objectify every female avatar in game. They've realized lalafells aren't visually good to objectify and objectifying them has overtones of pedophilia (which is nonsense, I play a short adult, not a child). So instead of looking at their own behavior, they are trying to shame all females into playing more easily objectified races.

As a male lalafell I have never been subjected to this hate, at least not that I noticed. But I have a hair trigger to put people on blacklist (at age 62 irl life is simply too short to waste time or energy on griefers/trolls), and recommend you do the same, using harassment complaints for egregious cases. I do get unsolicited head pats from time to time, which is a wierd but to-me-harmless custom.

My recommendation is play what you want, file a harassment complaint against anyone who bullies you, and blacklist anyone who makes you uncomfortable without crossing the line into bullying. Assume it's not personal: if you look at the classic textbooks on MMO design from the last 20 years one of the facts is that 10% of the player base is "griefers" -- people who get their jollies bullying other players or interfering in their play. It's not about you, it's about them. FFXIV has a lot less than 10% in this category, which speaks well of the game and its developers, and FFXIV takes harassment complaints very seriously. Edit: even this forum has an "ignore list", just click on the name of a poster that's being offensive, and right click on their name from their profile page and select ignore. So use the tools you are given and lock the griefers out of your gaming experience.

I created a Hrothgar alt just to try out character creation and see how their animations were in game, and got this "greeting" from a female miqo'te avatar even before the loading screen into Ul'dah finished loading for me. It took like 3 seconds, tops.

What? Blacklisting toxic people is toxic?

Damn, somebody needs to tell ALL of humanity that they've been toxic for the last millenia because that is what a healthy society does... (e.g. ostracize).

I've only ever used it twice in mentor chat to block 2 other mentors - both reported - in an effort to ease my blood pressure. I've used it from time to time in overall game in the last 5 years. And I avoid the Plaza and the Quicksand in Ul'dah as much as possible.

Thanks Beale for pointing out that blacklist ALSO exists as an appropriate response on the forum. (Had totally forgotten that was an option here.)
