Viera Race "Confirmed" for 5.0! Are you gonna change races?

Well nobody knows what a male viera looks like to be fair. They could be 8ft or 2ft and look hairy all over like Roger Rabbit but nobody could complain since they didn't appear in either the original tactics games or in 12.

I might switch to the race depending on how it looks! I'm really excited about them. I'm also hoping (probably won't happen) that the males have more of an androgynous/effeminate look on it, because all of the men excluding Lalafell have been more masculine.

That being said, it'll be nice to see more variety. More races are always cool.

Im going to switch since I’ve wanted the Viera race when I started playing years ago, but it will be interesting to see how they plan on pulling off the authentic Viera butts and feet in xiv (sarcasm of course). I’m also hoping for a non rigid walk/run animation. I will be really disappointed if we only get cutesy clans and not the tall fierce Viera like Fran.

Probably no, they're most likely going to look like Miqote knowing our luck.

First thing I'll do is make a new test character to make sure they don't have the same animation issues as Elezen or Femroes. But beyond that, I've got a spare fantasia good to go already.

I will change from Au Ra to Viera If they’re well designed.

What I’m unsure about is if we will see one or both Viera styles.

Tactics/Revenant Wings styled Viera: These are smaller, and technically the original. I dislike Yoshi P’s comments about this being most likely the last race. Not just because I want an anthropomorphic race, but because we really could use a second small race that isn’t just strictly “cute”. We need one with a bit more realism.

XII styles Viera: These tall Viera are more ideal for me, but if we added them then we have Highlander, Roegadyn, Elezen, and male Au Ra. Bringing a total of Four tall races. Lalafell, and female Au Ra are the only “small” races.

Miqote, and Midlander are the only medium races. We really need more medium and small races to make the tall races feel more unique. Tallness, and shortness are supposed to be equally captivating. Medium heighted people are the most common in general, and that should be focused upon for the sake of realism.

With that said, I don’t mind tall Viera, or short Viera. I’m rooting for both to end up separate clans. A short clan, and a tall clan would give the west, and east each of their preferred character style.

I just hope that they don’t stop here, and add a new race or two down the line. We still haven’t explored an anthropomorphic race, and the majority of races being tall really would put an imbalance on the game. More races in future expansions have a lot of potential.

I see the likelihood of each Viera being about equal, but my sceptism makes me think they won’t put in the work of making four character models. The devs have expressed the dislike, and difficulty of implementing new races many times over.

East Side: Japan would like small Viera more, and since this game has a Japanese origin, I could see it going in that favor. They might also not want to repeat another tall race.

West Side: North America would most likely prefer tall Viera based on its tastes. Square Enix might prefer the Viera staying closer to Final Fantasy XII’s aesthetics for artistic direction direction, and familiarity with FFXII.

It’s either way, or both. If it’s one way someone will be unhappy no matter what we do. It’s up to the fandom to pick how they will choose to embrace what type of Viera we eventually get. I’m actually very worried if we do end up with just the small Viera, because of recent reactions to Blue Mage, and Eureka. One more mixed response could send the fandom in an uproar, and make XIV lose subscribers. Maybe if the Small Viera had a medium height instead of a small height, it could be more receptive over here, but I am worried.

No, i'm not changing races. Never cared about Viera. I'm fully expecting a humanoid race with bunny ears and for that i can go to the Gold Saucer and buy the bunny ears and call myself a Viera.

Despite not caring about the race i will still be pissed off if it's in fact an humanoid with just bunny ears for that exact reason. If i can recreate the look by buying an headgear from the Gold Saucer then what the heck have they been doing with their resources?

I'm probably a minority in that I might consider switching if they add the shorter Viera. With Wildstar dying this month, my fat bunny girl from that game is gone forever. :(

I think they could possible add both without necessarily adding two different character models per sex. It's mostly just a matter of scaling. The Feol are more petite overall, so shrinking the body of them by a lot while keeping the head the same size would achieve the same effect as simply making a smaller, cuter version. Then the main Viera would have a taller, more scaled up body, while retaining a similar head size. Since the gear can scale to heads and bodies independently (really no problem with that from a programmatic standpoint) - it would achieve the means of giving us both clans without requiring making a whole second skeleton and double the gear sets.

Facial features and customization, on the other hand, would need to be quite different. But those things would likely be made slightly different for each clan anyway (see how Midlanders and Highlanders have very different faces.)

Theres enough cute little options, bring out Big Bunnies with the dudes being slightly shorter when both m/f are maxed out.

Only if the cuteboys are C U T E.

All I'm going to say is "It depends."

I might try it out, I like the Feol viera over the lanky rougher looking ones. So long as they aren’t lalafellin in stature.

I’ve been the tall race for years, so the petite feol is more of a shake up to me. :)

The Au'Ra have the best body shape in FFXIV, and the best animations are scattered between the Cats and the Au'Ra. Whether or not I switch a character over to a Viera will heavily depend on the body shape and the animations. I will most likely switch my Hyur - as I've never cared for her animations (I have 4 characters in this game, as I like having choices in races with each login). But it will depend on what the Viera ends up like.

I feel people would really hate that and honestly, I'm sick of seeing games take the 'females human with animal parts' and males 'beast.' It's so dumb and weird (definitely would be worse than the Au Ra dimorphism).

I'm still gunning for the new race being an Aetheric Mutant race. Originally Miqo'te, but due to being mutated by the Aether in some shape or form (as we've seen in Eureka), they no longer look like what they used to be. Viera would be those who weren't heavily mutated; only growing longer ears, shorter tails and whatever else Ivalice Viera look like. Those heavily mutated pretty much become Ronso.

That's what I'm going with. Yoshi-P did say some years ago that Viera looked similar to Miqo'te and we even have NPC's in the game stating Viera are a sub-race. Just a theory I'm really hoping for (since this is apparently the last playable race. Two things I want in this game are a playable bestial race and BLU. BLU isn't ever going to be in relevant raid content, so this is pretty much the one thing I'm hoping for in the expansion).

It would go against what they said they learned with 1.0.
I would be extremely disappointed with the development team if they made that mistake again.

Each race comes with two tribes. Here's to hoping that's how we'll get it with both tribes being available to all genders. Especially if it's really the last race they plan to introduce to the game, keeping it gender-unlocked is the absolute least they can do.

Even if only female Viera will be implemented, I am sure the community will shake up even hell to make YoshiP and the dev team create them after all.

Depends on how they look and how their emotes are. Been playing lala for the greater part of these 5 years and I've grown attached to my little fella. That said, even if I don't fantasia into a viera, I'll probably still make an alt and mess around with it a bit.

There will be bunnies everywhere. Female bunnies to be precise. In bikini or something similar...

Depends what the males look like... I think it's way too early for anyone too decide when we haven't even seen them yet.

I'd be surprised to see such a thing in FFXIV. As a female, I feel very comfortable in this game because it caters to both male and female gamers (unlike tons of other games where female characters are taken straight out of males' fantasies, while the male characters are plain ugly). So far, SE has cared to give us both cool male and female characters, so I'd be quite disappointed if they derailed from that route.

I'm quite sure I won't change. I'm happy with being Au Ra.

I don't say I won't consider changing to Viera at all though. If they implement a big and a small Viera race and if the small ones have cute animations like Au Ra, it's not impossible that I will change to them. If it's only big Viera, then I'm 99% sure I won't change. It's not that I don't like Viera, but I rather play a small and cute female. ♪

That said, BlueFever did say Veira and Ronso..? Maybe it'll be an animal like race with Veira and Ronso as 2 different clans. But that's me being hopeful, it seems like most people want the choice between tall waifu and small waifu. :rolleyes:

It would be nice to finally have a race that truly adds some form of diversity instead of catering to the same people who already quite satisfied with their options. Of course, I'm talking about people who are unsure to fantasia or not, who are like, "Well I like my current race but I also like Viera", and people who might switch for a little then go back.

If a more bestial sub race occurred (Which is a possibility) I wouldn't even have to think a split second about changing and I'm sure a lot of people who keep complaining (such as myself) that they're disappointed with the racial options will finally have something we can play and enjoy the game with. I'm tired of adding horns and hooves, ears, feet to my characters to make them more monstrous well losing out on many of the glamour options this game provides.

Sadly, me and others can clamor of what we're hoping for the sub race to be compared to the amazon looking Viera; however, that decision has already been made and we possibility won't be able to see them until the other fan-fest. So I'll say, "Good luck to either side."

It would derail because female Viera is attractive to men, while male Ronso is not attractive to women (generally speaking). In fact, I believe that the concept of "intimidating beasty male race" also tends to cater to a (mostly) male audience.

In short. If Vieras are going to be pretty girls, I want to see pretty boys too.

There are so many pretty boy races out there, the options are huge please. This game caters so heavely towards people who play female characters and only want to see cute, even male Au Ra are just tall anime husbandos, and Roe are giant carebears (no offense, they look cool in their own way) i guess this is heavely my opinion but I really think this game lacks that intidamiting beast race for the guys (or girls) who enjoy that sort of aesthetic but we aren't allowed to have that because of all the Waifu and Husbando lovers.

I'd have no problem with such a race so long as both the male and the female were beasts.

In any case, as good as diversity is, I can understand why SE isn't in a hurry to make a beasty race. Numbers have shown that the least pretty races happen to be the least played. Making a new race takes time, effort and resources; naturally SE would like to invest on a new race that the majority want to see, instead of catering to the vast minority.

As much as some people love their beastly / badass stuff, statiscally speaking that type of races are always the least played. We have to accept that we are the outliers. They will cater to the majority and the majority wants waifu cute little princesses / princes...

You also have to understand the japanese area REALLY into cute stuff. so yeah... I guess i'll have to deal with that crappy /hum emote on my roe

As long as the models look as good as Fran and co in FFXII, I will absolutely change immediately. Been waiting for them for a long time.

I do not recall what more recent interview it was in. However i vaguely remember it being said that there is a certain aesthetic that is being adhered to, in terms of player character race options. Given what races we gave now, the level of emotions rendered on player characters faces@ ( in and out if cs's), and the statement as to the amount of work it takes to realize a player race to completion, it stands to reason that even if we get a Romeo race it won't be near as bestial as what was introduced in FFX. Already, I see people using fan art in instead of official concepts due to the fact it simply looks more human like.

Depends myself. It took forever for me to get use Au Ra after two years of Female Midlander. So if the new race is visually appealing as well animationally appealing then I might. Otherwise I can make an alt I suppose.
