but that's only an issue in the starting hours/levels and its a problem that diminishes over time. I got my lvl3 magicite because I was in a party that lured the mobs away for us. (lvl5 was a bit easier). Lvl6 for exp penalty is a good spot to start it at.

There really needs to be something to encourage players to remain active/discourage them from idling in some way.

It's getting really frustrating to have a crowd of a few dozen turn-up at a hunt train that's about the same size as them then just sit there doing nothing until the NM spawns, even if the enemies are taking long enough to die that they could reasonably contribute to the task.

It's like people waiting for emergency missions at the updated Diadem all over again, but worse, because this time they can actually speed up the process if they stay active, and more often then not they only end up causing issues by dragging monsters into the fray.

I feel like actively killing monsters should stack some kind of buff that increases your reward from NMs or something like that. Basically, the people who are spawning these things should be getting more out of it then the slackers, but they barely do (If at all).

Why does casual content (you know, if that's what relic weapons are supposed to be from, as people seem to keep mentioning over and over) need to have elements of risk or loss?

This mechanic would be moot at end stage (and based on my quoted post, forcing you to "stay on the level grind") and all it does is give people free raises for the good samaritan title.

That 25-30% is basically 2 fate NM bosses, this is not proportionate, this is again, forcing you to stay on the level grind. There is a difference between "risk vs reward" and gating things because reasons. People at the higher lvls will stay at the higher levels because of the rewards, and this high penalty for death will only widen the gap, with said players staying in those high lvl areas to recoup losses. Leeches are already gathering because of #fatetrain or #zergrush.

Barring NM fate bosses, its likely an average of 300+ kills per level, that means that one death is about a third of those kills to get back.

The problem remains the same, you're limited to only go where you can, not where you should be, the leveling is skewed in favor of killing 100 something for a NM mob to reward you decent exp, othewise the chain bonus grind is a joke when 1/3rd of the bonus you're spent getting to 10+ chain and another 1/3rd is spent on only then getting a bonus proportionate to the level experience (I.e: chain+ 21-30).

Again, overcomplicated gating is not proper risk vs reward, its just making things difficult more than they should be.

1) Get the sparklers out of the boxes. Seriously just give us shards/crystals/clusters instead. At least we can do more with those.

2)Let us sell or trade the music rolls.

3)Let us desynth the glamor gear.

4) Normally you'd never hear me say this but can we get some dailies? Just having a few objective based goals to complete per day would go a long way to making the content feel better. Say three per Eureka visit cap of 12 total per day?

And for content that was promised to be soloable (biggest lie about this thing so far imo) you don't see the problem there? Hell needing a raise to begin with to avoid the exp penalty is in and of itself contradictory to that promise. So either they go back on that statement or own up to it, starting by removing the death penalty.

They may as well scrap the elemental affinity thing. Theres no choice to it or no meaning. You can freely chop and change your affinity so easily that there's absolutely no meaning to it at all. It wouldn't change anything If They removed it entirely.

if you're going to add systems like this then your choices need to matter and carry impact... but when you can chop and change your points so easily the system ends up being essentially even worse than the old attribute points we used to have where it was ultimately pointless.

Agreed, the more I notice the elemental thing, its very irrelevant on current level stuff and only helps to overpower lower then you things and not by much.

Maybe some status immunity wheel instead while magicite would've just been like a simpler aether pool upgrade. 1 magicite = 5% or 10% Buff to Offense and Defense.

The better option is just not have exp loss to begin with. It's an archaic mechanic that even FFXI has eased up on over the years.

I never played FFXI so I didn't get to experience many of the things people like about it. But I remember the developers specifically saying that they "learned from Diadem" and weren't going to make those mistakes again.

So I can absolutely see how they would come to this conclusion with Eureka. I mean:

Diadem had FATES everywhere. We hated them
Eureka has limited FATES.

Diadem had weapons that were on par with Savage at the time and people lost their minds over them even though they were super rare
Eureka has gear that is below Savage

Diadem (1.0) had gatherers and battlers together. People would gather until an NM showed up. So they separated them.
Eureka has no gathering option.

I have to say that Eureka is a beautiful, open, untamed wilderness. The story isn't really that meaningful to me and personally I'd boot Krile into the mouth of a morbol given half a chance. BUT that's just me.

I just think that a lot more could've been done. For example, they took out the random treasure chests that spawned in Diadem. I always liked finding those. It would give us more of a reason to explore.

This would also be an opportune time to make use of that /dig command beyond just doing maps for Uznair. Let us follow clues given by NPCs like daily quests.

There's no reason for Eureka to have anything gatherer related. That had its own can of worms in diadem. People gathering in the instance is no different than the current AFKers, only taking an instance slot.

1) You say elite mobs, but don't go into any detail what an elite mob is? What differentiates it from a normal mob? Or a hunt mob? Give examples.

2) What would be the benefit of monsters having multiple elements in this shallow system? What actual impact would it have on me, the player? Go into detail.

3) What does having separate elemental attack/defense have anything to do with us the players? We can only pick one element, and we're always going to pick the applicable one to do what we already do (tank reduce damage, dps increase damage).

4) Bad examples. That's redundant with the elemental wheel. Historically speaking "farming" elemental resistance sets has never once been fun.

6) This is a surprisingly decent suggestion and a good example in theory, but in application I fail to see its benefit. I do however disagree with more button bloat and honestly the role action system needs to be scrapped regardless (a separate topic). I don't think given the existing design schema that your idea could work, but it is interesting nontheless.

7) Those are bad examples. Bland passive gains etc. aren't interesting nor does it offer any gameplay choice.

8) Agreed. I've posited that corresponding weather should boost mobs of the specific element by giving them new abilities/behavior. In addition, weather comes with added environmental hazards (i.e. Lightning storm weather would consistently spawn Ramuh EX lightning bolts both on players and randomly on ground locations, as well as trigger electocution in water, etc.).

A better system (IMO) and one that keys in on the success of MHW would have been one where mobs have multi targetable parts and abilities that correspond to those parts and differing elements have effects to help deal with the parts. I.e. Fighting a Leafy Ochu or something and you can destroy its tentacles by using Wind elemental attacks, or destroys its leaves using Fire. Destroying the tentacles gives the enemy a damage down debuff and removes its ability to cleave. Killing the leaves prevents the AOE attack and gives it a vuln up. Alternatively, maybe it removes the Ochu's ability to passively regenerate HP or reflect damage, etc.

Give mobs traits, effects, abilities and mechanics and give players options and tools and corresponding danger/choice to handle them.

Just need to practice on those stealth skills!
Former FFXI player here, developed my stealth skills in that game, have only died once and I'm lvl 10. Those Eureka pots help too.

Also no to the removal of exp loss. I agree with Nora.

Oh I'm no XI player but I got pretty deep in potd. I know my stealth and the limited range on the enemies helps. Until you get to the quest location and there's a dozen of them all looking in different directions and you didn't change classes into NIN before leaving camp.
"Git gud" is not the answer to this, especially when so much grieving exists in this game mode and people intentionally pull mobs towards you be it NM or the Train moving to a different location. My own skill has no bearing on whether or not I'll need that raise.

I just don't understand why people want things dumbed down to the point they remove an essential aspect of the content. If there is no death penalty then people will just stop caring, it would just defeat the purpose of the area. You have that outside of Eureka, why do we have to have it inside it too? Can't at least we have one piece of content where things actually matter?

If anything, reduce the exp loss a bit, but no need to take it out completely just because people want everything at the snap of fingers. You get your mount access at lvl 17, 2 aetherytes (at level 9 because you don't even need to reach these areas yet as they are too high level for anyone just starting? They will eventually get there), how much more convenience do people want? Yes've experienced a single attempt at MPK (though they failed), but life goes on. Not gonna ask for removal of something over that. But whatever. :/

Super glaring issues.

1. Too many players per instance.. 144 players = way to much object culling, people getting disconnected and server tick issues.

2. It's devolved into a fate train.. people stand afk around the NM spawn point whilst 10% of the people actually do something for little reward.

3. NM scaling and lowbies joining the fight. Just make the NM take much longer and for healers/casters they just become rez bots.

4. Theres no actual content. No real quests, no puzzles, no real lore.. just grind grind -> spawn big things, hit it for a bit -> grind grind.

And to clarify on point 4. Theres no issue with the combat being a grind.. but if it's taken them 1.5 years to actually develop it.. There should have been a lot more content outside of the combat.

Hell POTD has more actual content in the cutscenes that this thing does.

I shouldn't have to wait for someone else to lure the mobs away so I can sneak into the quest location. I shouldn't have to have someone else raise me so I won't lose exp in content I should be able to play by myself, and if the exp penalty is part of the design, have EVERYONE lose exp regardless of being raised so that solo players aren't hurt for playing solo. This is what it boils down to if they don't intent to openly admit they outright lied about it being soloable.

but its not that complicated. every solo JRPG I've played (recently Xenoblade) has you sneaking around higher level mobs to get to where you need to be with a chance of getting one shot, thats the risk vs reward I'm talking about.

I know a lot of people here are saying "this is supposed to be soloable, Yoshi P said", I kind of remember him saying that, but I also remember it sounding like "Yeah, its soloable, but it would be faster if you grouped up". my point is: if the first 10 levels are too difficult, removing the death penalty is not the solution. Otherwise, lvl 15+ people have nothing to worry about and eureka will only get easier over time instead of challenging.

Again, you're comparing your personal experience with a thought that you notice people gripe about. The first reasoning was so that people cooperated and the "wee woo" res spam. Now its the solo jrpg.

Bottom line here, this part of the content is your cup of tea and I respect that. But that cup of tea is also gonna burn people coming behind, who don't play like you, who maybe even don't like to play what you do. Dismissing them or gating them behind this just because "its probably not for them" would be a loss on any camp. This is how current risk vs reward is not helping the longevity of it.

This penalty is not about going solo, its about the reward structure tipped too much on one side because they want people to take time on this because there is no depth behind it. I like Eureka, and I appreciate the "wee woo" theme, but it won't last. Keeping something challenging also involves knowing that people will phase out, and those that stay behind should be able to keep it relevant or get there to retain it relevant.

Many people in the instance want the reward and not the experience. And I get that this kind of penalty is a way to keep the lazy people behind. But again, that doesn't help towards the longevity of this content.

Ideas I posted in another thread, please read it community managers/devs

The problem is the things and lack of variety there, there are no events outside of NMs, not many different and FUN ways to get exp and crystals, and no randomness to the enemies, why isn't there a 50% chance that a morbol will splash bad breath on everyone? Why can't skeletons all of a sudden summon a horde of skeletons? Why are we forced into a LOOP of pulling the same enemies waiting for them to respawn instead of like making them dynamic and get weather bonuses, "survival" bonuses (like if this type of monster hasn't been killed in a while they give bonus crystals and exp).

Or let's say that all the dynamic stuff couldn't be done because our servers can't handle it

Why not then just make Eureka a no-party area where enemies fight like they do now but give a lot more exp and crystals? At least regular grinding will feel fun because killing 10 enemy alone will feel like we're making progress. I wouldn't mind this, it would be like when I do Hunt bills which is a lot of fun for me. Or even just add hunt bills, would make the monotonous loop of fighting the same monsters 1 hour have some kind of purpose. Or have Krile give us orders every 30 minutes

Kryle: Leshys are becoming too strong! We need to you to kill 30 of them! (And a Leshy boss at the end of that 30 chain)
We need the devs to not just use "safe" content that worked in other mmos and start adding creativity to them.

If there's no penalty more people will be inclined to leave you there and then if say you die on the way to an NM pop, people aren't going to run back raise you and then run back unless you're fairly close by. So then you have to go back to town run all the way back and if the NM is one of the northern ones and you're not 9+ yet then you have to take twice as long to get back and NM might be dead by the time you get there.

edit: it's also a loss to players like me who appreciate this difficulty and risk. they'll never strike a perfect balance with each piece of content. for example, Im completely burnt out on dungeons and any roulettes because of how boring and easy they are, its not for me anymore. Do I feel at a loss because I cant enjoy dungeons and 24 mans? Nope, I got ex primals, savage, and now Eureka to enjoy.

I'll admit, I'm seeing your point clearer now, so I appreciate your posts. This content is definitely MY cup of tea as I've been Fate chaining since Tuesday, halfway to level 10, and have yet to lose any exp, so my perspective is very different from people struggling to adapt to the content.

as for longevity, thats not really Yoshi's strong suit, so I don't think of current content in terms of longevity. (PotD is the exception but you could argue very people are doing the savage floors.)

overall I think we'll just have to wait and see how it pans out once the tryhards get to 20 and the levels start deviating further apart.

1. Elite mobs could be mobs with a star in their name around mobs near their group. For example these mobs on a basic level could just be stronger, drop more loot, more exp, or have extra elements like mentioned above. For example a Fire mob that normally does fire attack, but can cast water spells is interesting, even more interesting if they can cast water AOE.

DPS on fire could easily die like this if caught. Another suggestion i saw is that normal monsters have telegraphs, but since elite mobs are basically the same looking monsters and can cast the same thing, they don't have telegraphs, they could even have EXTRA spells.

2. Mixing elements in a single mob is interesting. While it may not add much gameplay wise in the early stages, it gives alot of room for more types of monsters in the future. Now there are 6 types, letting there be dual elements is 15 different already. Kinda like pokemon. For example fighting against a WATER ICE mob, its should be weak against LIGHTNING FIRE, but because its mixes, its only weak to lightning. Attack wise doesn't matter much, but defence wise, it could be normal attacking with either water or ice element, or could be casting different skills of the other element. Like a water monster casting ice shards. Its interesting for tanks since normally you would stack water defence, but now you might want a balance water ice def for this monster specifically.

Of course another interesting combination is a WATER LIGHTNING GROUND mob. Not only does it not have a weakness, but it (should) be resistant to water lightning and ground since attack with the same element it has is bad. You would attack this mob with fire wind or ice, at base 100% values. Here is where some traits come into play, like increasing your neutral base attack by 10% for example helps.

Best combo by far, probably saved for the most MVP of monsters, a 6 coloured boss. Does it change gameplay much? no. Is it OMGWTF cool when you see this boss? Yes. Role actions that can negate its element comes into play.

3. This morelikely comes into play when monster element are hidden. So initially finding out what element the mobs attack and def in will be a challenge. You might be right that it doesn't add much, but i definitely want to see monsters being able to cast spells or skills outside their element. Like a FIRE mob normally attacking with fire, but may cast an earthquake(EARTH) spell.

4. Gear is just another way to make players feel they are making a decision, and adding player variety. Some players may mix pieces, some may go all in. Magic board can be swapped on the fly but not gear. Although gameplay wise they won't matter much, (since if you add more resistance from gear, you must rebalance the magic board rates), it gives the player some choice, doesn't tell the player something is always be best choice.. (i370 is literally the best IMO) also gives players sense of progression, "yay level 10 i get to wear new set" "yay level 13, change weapon feels good man". gear could just be level gated, and sold directly in the shop, for few protean shards. Devs should know the main reasion people go in is for relic, so make getting gear easy instead.

Honestly think pokemon here. A Charizard is a FLYING FIRE type pokemon with bonus damage and resistances to fire and flying but it can still cast spells such as earthquake or dig. While you might go ice element on it, in pokemon, FIRE is also super effective against ice.

I know you are saying that special traits and special skills etc won't matter much gameplay wise, since if we get more traits, or skills, the monsters will be re balanced accordingly, BUT, sometimes its not always about a gameplay aspect, its about the cool or fun factor. While a trait that increases you passive resistances by 2/4/6/8/10% sounds bland since "youre a tank just get it".. it is CHARACTER BOUND, so now since you have this trait you are more liklely to be a tank for the group. This opens different playstyles, some may prefer to be the "most op tank" tanking all the defence passives. Some may like to balance so they can easily switch jobs. For casual and midcore, its just fun customization that wouldn't honestly have an impact. For hardcore players going for the strongest elite mobs or optimization, they might want to go all in. These would be permanent right, so initially you might just take all offence traits, even on tank to maximize dps, but then comes along a powerful MVP where the extra 10% def matters.

Although you MHW idea is very exciting, it won't work in ffxiv cause the base systems of the game don't really have this feature yet. Or unless the said monster is really huge, like shinryu.

I also echo alot of the suggestions mentioned in this thread.

OBJECTIVES
Like Diadem, let some of the NPC gives objectives to retrieve items or kill a certain mob & reward it with exp points, protean crystals, ect.

MORE DIFFERENT LEVEL FATES
Fates doesnt have to be NM fates regular fates where exp points, anemos & protean crystals are rewarded. Different lvl fates in there respective areas

MORE EXP POINTS
I have no problem with the grind...but give more exp point & less penalties.

LOCK BOXES
Why have sparklers & confetti as rewards in these lock boxes. Especially when you spends hours grinding & fighting NMs is the only way can obtain lock boxes. Better rewards: lvl 6 materia, cracked crystal & clusters, minions, protean crystals, etc.

Lock boxes shouldnt be limited to NMs.

I hope SE hear & implement some of the suggestions that are listed in this thread. I enjoy Eureka but improvements are always welcome.

The xp loss penalty is there to provide you with a sense of danger, if you're not careful or get too greedy and die then you get punished, if all that happens is you die and have to waste a few mins getting back there's no dangerous element to it, it's normal run back and continue on.

I wouldn't want this in the main game like XI did but it sure as hell makes you think twice about what you take on in Eureka. Besides it's not like you're relying on anyone to help you do anything beyond getting a raise.

Not sure if it's been said before but how about a teleport to a party member when you join a group. Just got in and got an invite and the group was on the other side of the map where there was no freaking way I could get to them.

That and maybe better xp distribution to everyone hitting the mobs might help. As it is, if don't tag the mob, you're just farming xp for everyone else. You might get maybe 4 xp out of it, but there's enough of an xp grind that it really shouldn't matter who tagged it.

How about bring back the "path companion" as something like the Adventuring Fellow? They had quite a lot of content as you interacted with them, tgeir own personality, and made even the most tedious soloing into an utter blast.

i'll post an idea i had in another thread here, a warning on the death screen that tells you how meny exp or levels i.e

"Return to start of Eurika, you will lost XXXXX Exp and X level(s)"

Tbh though, THAT is a very true to form FFXI element right there.

That should be quite possible to do since the system is already in place for RAF campaign

Ok. More feedback.

I hit 20 today. I've finished my mains relic, and armour and I still have over 1000 Anemos crystals left.

Didn't plan on doing more relics... but had that much fun doing it I might do another.

I'm sad that leveling is over for now, and I wish there was more to do at max.

If they want to emulate ffxi, need sneak/invis. Especially if they have a 25% penalty for dying.

I think it’d be good if they added some abilities that were available only in eureka.
Stuff that they wouldn’t really be able to add into normal ability sets like CC, buffs or debuffs could be fun.
Some basic objectives for parties / players could go a long way to help parties organise, since it’s easy to just get lost in the FATE train
