I'm actually not. I'd much rather the races have actual diversity to them rather then just being different sized humans with shit thrown on them. Au Ra are just skinny humans with scales and a tail thrown on them, Miqote are just skinny humans with cat ears and a tail thrown on them, Lalafells are just short and gross humans with nightmare-fuel pear shaped bodies. FFXIV's races so far have just been dumbed down and less interesting versions of FFXIs races with Au Ra thrown into the mix: Miqote are dumbed down Mithra; Roegadyns are just Galka with females, no tails, and far less interesting lore; Lalafells are just tarutaru with worse body anatomy and honestly look like they've been designed to appeal to people who are into loli. For a series that's about telling good and thought provoking stories it's baffling to me that this games races and lore behind its races is so uninspired.
No, please ;_;
Let beast tribes be beast tribes
No.

Yeah, and Au Ra didn't turn out to be a beastly-tribe race so point to me? XD
Am I the only one who would love to see Burmecian?
If I'm understand the story right so far the Lupin are very different from being a beast tribe. They served the lords the Doma just as any other citizen. Especially that it makes mention that in the last 25 years since the empire took over that many of them have taken to being bandits. They act nothing like the others that we have encountered.
Add another voice to wanting these fellows in the game. At the very least, a more beastial race in nature.
I don't understand how people can say Roe and a beast race will have similar numbers when they're so different apart. Heck, a person arguing against it displayed a chart showing race populations and Au'ra were only 10%! Way lower then the numbers of Humans and Miqo'te, and yet Au'ra have a lot more in comparison to those races then a Roe to a beast race. Is it because people prefer fur on their waifu then scales, is it because of color options or tail looks? If such small feature differences didn't make the mass majority switch from Humans and Miqo'te, how can we say another new race with similar options would do just that?
Please no, if we're going to add a beast like race ... can we get something a bid more bad ass? and not just another humanwolfhybrid?
Honestly, the dev time wasted on this - if implemented - could go to so many other things that would please/be used by vastly more people. I don't believe that there would be anything but a tiny fraction of players even voicing support for this who played one of these beasts long term.
Apart from that their totally canine features would be utterly unreadable. No facial emotes whatsoever. It's just a bad idea to take such a total departure from the norms of the game at this point. Perhaps if a truly beast-like race had been involved from the start you might be able to make a better case for adding Dog headed humanoids, but that's not the case.
I don't at all see how a dog-headed humanoid race fits into Eorzea in the least. Adding the Au'Ra was a stretch itself because of the obvious plotholes created by Yugiri's own dialog when speaking to the WoL who can now be an Au'Ra just as she is. However, there is one thing to note, Au'Ra were 'unknown' (or perhaps not seen in many decades) in the 3 cities of Eorzea despite their prevalence in Ishgard. You can say that because Ishgard had been closed off for so long that no Au'Ra were seen in Eorzea in general until Yugiri and the Doman's showed up. But the point is that in terms of the world we 'live' in, other than the political isolation of Ishgard, the playable races all inhabit Eorzea. Dog-headed humanoids not so much.
To be honest, so far from what I have seen (not through all the story yet) these Lupin are less a playable race then they are literal lap dogs for the empire who will do their master's bidding for the Garlean version of a scooby snack.
You can dismiss this as colorful rhetoric and ranting, but it's more or less true. Lupin are little more than expendable cannon fodder for the Empire, just as the red ninja turtles are. We've seen how the Garleans like to distance themselves and their own poeple from the brunt of the action by conscripting others to do the dirty work, and die for the empire. The fact that an overdeveloped dog is included in their forces shouldn't result in them becoming a playable race.
Well, enough of that, it all comes down to the truism, dogs drool, cats rule.
*sigh* ran out of posts for the day, so reply is here.
That's why I included the caveat that I haven't seen the plot. However the reason I am in the discussion is I do not like Lupin as a playable race in FFXIV, and I want to make my point heard.
Yes you can say some of what I wrote was colorful ranting, but I don't believe that a dog headed humanoid would be a good fit for the game or story at all - and I maintain that anything that looks that much like a German Shepherd would chase after a scooby snack. ;)
Although I may agree with your first points, your last ones may be way off. You're right, there's plot and story you haven't seen yet. I'll leave it there, unless you'd like me to tell you how you're wrong.
(which makes me wonder why you'd discuss something you aren't knowledgeable about, though that's neither here nor there)
They aren't even allied with the Empire they are citizens of Doma! Sure there are some that are with the Empire but not all. Clearly you voicing an opinion like this means you haven't made it to Doma yet as you can see them there wearing the same clothes as everyone else. Who knows maybe there are some that do reside in Gyr Abania which could make a native Lupin to Eorzea totally plausable however it would be alien to us due to the fact the Gyr Albania has been sealed off behind Baelsar's Wall. That is a stretch however. Now what the team could do if they brought the Lupin to Eorzea is have a little start area that would show them coming to the continent and incorporating themselves as the Domans did back in 2.4 or was it 2.3? I can't remember off the top of my head. But it would be organic none the less.
I'd like to see them added as well. I don't think more diversity for playable races would be a bad thing.
I want to make a point on this. I don't know if anyone has brought this up yet. BUT at what point have the Lupin been identified as a beastman tribe? They have not at any point in game been said to be one. It is assumption that they are one and there is actual proof they are not one. If they were a beastman tribe. The Garlean empire would not have conscripted them.
As far as the Viera are concerned. we might see them in the 24 man raid.
This might be the solution that SE plans to add. female Viera and male Lupin as new the race in a later patch.
I noticed this a lot as I got farther in the story. The lupins are the least "beast tribey" beast tribe in the game and have a very long history of being integrated in Doman civilization and function exactly as any other person and share nothing with beast tribes we have been shown.
They are so ingrained into society I very strongly doubt there will be beast quests for them even. It lets one think.
Lupin were actually one of the original concepts for Au Ra, but they clearly did not make the final cut.

What we got was the Demonic/Draconic concept.
No thanks. I think that they shouldn't have even been added as NPCs. It feels weird being in a world of humans and slightly-not-really-humans-with-tails to see a huge doggo just living in a town. I know some people like more beast-like races, but it just wouldn't be the same when we've all used human-like races since the start of the game. I would like to see mi'qote and au ra revisited or something, to make them less human-y. Maybe mi'qote could get more fur options and au ra more scales, little less human. But I honestly don't see this race happening, but that's probably just me.
Final Fantasy in general? Not out of place. FFXIV? Out of place. Everywhere you look in a town like Limsa Lominsa you see humans, big humans, small pointy-eared humans, big pointy-eared humans, cat-eared humans, and humans with horns. Emphasis on humans. Lupin are not human like. They are literally a beast, but more civilized. They're like the civilized beast tribes we encounter. And we don't play as those. In my opinion, they aren't very pleasant to look at because of that. They're already out of place living with humans, but oh well. Too late to change that now.
Wanted to add a point I rarely ever see in these sorts of threads.
Miqo'te aren't just popular because "furry waifu!": they're popular because they're one of the few races that actually look "good" (in quotes 'cause beauty's subjective) no matter what face you pick. They're one of the few races that you can't tell right away what face was used by looking at a character. Each of the four faces for both genders of Miqo'te were designed well and offer enough changes with their smaller details that if you like playing as a cat person, you can almost never go wrong designing one. Add this to the fact that their ears and tails will match whatever hair color you pick, and you can have a pretty unique looking Miqo'te.
The only other race that has that much flexibility in terms of "choice of good looking faces" seem to be the Au Ra and the Hyur, but the Au Ra have the unfortunate characteristic that you can't pick which horns you have since they're attached to the face. And you can't change the color of their scales/horns (I know it wouldn't fit the lore, but I feel like we if can put face paint on that covers our face scales you could have Au Ri warriors that painted their scales too. Or even treat them like tattoos) or change the patterns of the scales on your body. Au Ra are my favorite but you can tell instantly which customization features people used, which may lend to them not being as popular (which surprised me! I feel like I see Au Ra everywhere, so those charts earlier in the thread are kind of shocking).
Highlander Hyur and Roes just weren't given nearly as many options face wise that "look good" to a lot of people. Like...why in the world do all of the highlander lady faces have those deep shadows on their eyes except for one face? And why have all the different eye shape "options" if I can't pick one to get rid of those? Or add the deep shadows to the face that doesn't have them? That's just one example. And Roe ladies are gorgeous, but more often than not they're all using the same face option.
This is why I'm in the camp that while I'm all for more races, I want more customization to come to what exists already. Because if it doesn't, that's only going to hurt the viability of whatever race comes next. The Miqo'te and Hyur don't necessarily have more options than everyone else, but all of their options are flexible and and have a big impact on your character's design. The other races (especially the Highlanders and the Roes) need this kind of love desperately.
