Looks gaudy IMO.
China is also a different market. Maybe having wings is popular in Chinese (paying or free) games and they're adding them to emulate that and generate extra revenue. Wasn't the Chinese version not doing too well in sales?
Its possible given that the Chinese and Koreans might see Western Motifs as exotic (before anyone asks, the idea of Angels being just like Harpies were invented in the Renaissance). Doubly so for the same reason they are seemingly unpopular here. A blatant Power fantasy.
Given that any mildly attractive white person in China is sort of treated like a celebrity (people like to take pictures with you), it's most definitely a regional thing. Things that aren't China are very popular there. Sort of like Thailand's fascination with Hitler, though obviously not even remotely as ignorant lol.
I can't say that I'm 100% against wings as long as they're glamour only and a reasonable size, but not really a fan of them either. The tacky huge ones you see in other mmo's though, absolutely not.
Like this which doesn't even fit into the FFXIV world: http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodest.../youkai-watch/
While the wings don't look that fabulous and realistic I kinda like the coats.
Also, those horns. Can we talk about these?? They remind me of those shown in the Au Ra concept art they didn't chose in the end.. ; o;
Im a person that REALLY love Angelwings!
But the wings here are ON those not so nice chest piece it seems :S
So,no thanks!
But the chocobo outfits are nice o=
I would like the wings only as neckgear slots! Not on outfits! o_o
*prepares to offer money*
I would like these please SE. I have always enjoyed the angel aesthetic. I could care less about other peoples opinions on my taste. Thet don't pay my sub :3
They already went on sale! (obviously in China)
We will have to wait a year to get them too?
and I'm still waiting for the Korean outfits xD

I admit I like the bardings but the outfit...its kinda eh to me. Though if others want it they are free, I wouldn't mind.
I want the white wing outfit and the barding T_T they look a lot better than I thought, and I need *-*
I'd get the outfit if the wings could be separated.
I'll pass on these wings. I'm not against wings in XIV, they just look too stiff to me. Can we get the coats without wings and the barding, though?
These don't really look all that great to me, the barding on the other hand is wonderful.
We have enough long coats too, so this one is a meh for me.
Tbh, I think these are to make up for the fact China lost their region exclusive dress. So now this is their region exclusive.
I can't imagine the Chinese were all that impressed to hear the EU / NA regions would get access to the dress, so SE needed to compromise.
Weeeeell, I like wings, but I don't really like the outfit they come with...
There might be a few players but they're likely a vocal minority, It's not a big deal. They have all of our content apart from small localisation tweaks due to their laws and beliefs and the dress is also a paid item here, they can also purchase the promotional items straight out the cash shop so there's that.
Unless they specifically promised that it would never leave China, I still don't see a problem. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ From what I read it seems the only reason it was exclusive to begin is that Shanda Games requested that specific style, and Yoshida stated that Chinese players don't care about lore/realism (after implementing the Yokai event). No one cared that the butler/maid equipment made it over there.
Yay! bad looking wings \o/ let's go!

My only bunch of complaints is that they're not long enough and aren't animated. It's just a clump of plaster stuck to your back.... xD
#PS3 limitations
Sounds good to me. :)
Hey, at least its realistic now? :p The further we are from wings like this, the better.

Those are nasty, lmao... I've seen some really nice MMO wings that don't sparkle like some 12 year old's cartoon fantasy though...
I don't think developers actually know what a bird's wing looks like half of the time when they conceive these ideas at the very least.
What a dev team thinks a wing looks like;

The wings would probably look a lot better if they didn't make them fluffy and actually went for long elegant feathers, lmao.
When I said animated I didn't mean moving constantly, I meant that they should have some kind of joint that allowed them to at least stretch open when you're idle, or maybe even responded to an emote that made them spread out / up. Would have looked nice if you macro'd it into a rez command, lol.
Healers should get healing effects like that in general to spice up their animation scheme a little. You rez someone, or use your large heal (such as benedict) and for maybe 5 seconds after you have some nice wings, like the ones you get when you use the Magicked Prism (Wings.)
They just make what sells the most and people are drawn to fluffy angel-like wings rather than looking like a bird, and I'd guess they didn't want them animated as they're a one time item. Other developers like to throw in wings constantly with different variets, but I figure they're all using the same skeleton so the animations work across the board. It also wouldn't make sense for them to move at all really, considering they're a prop attached to an outfit. Wings are going to look subpar in FFXIV due to everything being low detailed, they look decent in other SP titles like DS3 (NPC mob, not the PC) but the visuals of that title are leagues ahead of FFXIV.
That might because Naturally wings ona humanoid figure are...unatural to begin with. Which is why the concept originaed with supernatural beings. The Greek first used this with the Sirens and the Harpies, but they are usualy birdlike in their extremities as well (talons and clows isntead of arms and legs for example). Then came the Renaissance era where painters decided to interpret the Angels that serve Gof this way, retaining only the wings. The problem is that the more a concept pops up, the more diluted it is (see: the comment about winged character being cliche earlier in the thread). I don;t think the Greeks or Renaissance painters do not think wings look like that first picture you posted.
It is form that we get out conception of Angels from, and with it the power fantasy of being like those that are second to God in terms of power or divinity, and also why these particular wings tend to pop up a lot in stories.
What does it matter? Not like your going to have the ability to wear them lol.
I was thinking that... I dunno why people are upset that they've implemented the wings when, unless you're Chinese, you wont see them.
That being said... Can you log the Chinese mogstation and buy them for your character outside of China? I've never actually tried.
Also, in a game call Final "Fantasy" cognitive dissonance should not exist...
Any credible artist should be looking at photos, etc when making something that actually exists for reference. That's like drawing a potato and calling it a Lalafel... Oh wait...

Isn't that emote looks like /bstance of monk?
Wings can be nice but I don't want to see them in FF honestly.
