The variable in this is the poor infrastructure overall in the US. We only have a handful of companies here controlling the backbone and T1-T2 networks.
Now Comcast is even looking to buyout Time Warner... /chills

Thanks Clavaat. I wonder if you or anyone surmises that SE might actually had or did any testing/information as to what 'might' happen if/when they did the 0.3s change? I find it absolutely unbelievable that they had no inkling at all of the issues that would occur.
If in fact they didn't -- they just went ahead and did a little 'adjusting' without firm data or if they saw in the very next few weeks information which would provide that data -- why not change it back? Because of some forum POLLS????
I tried to do the TcpAck fix but I still have bad lag spikes so I know it is not on my end and I'm sick of this games lag BS that happens way to much and only SE's to get worse...
Seems* but SE's is funny and kinda works too.
Just wanted to necro this to make all of those on Verizon aware of what is really the issue (because the majority of complaints lately do seem to be from people using that service provider).
Check this article for some information on difficulties being experienced by Cogent and Verizon that can very well be affecting your ability to play FFXIV.
I know this thread is old but i seen some replies to what I was saying. You're absolutely right. everyone thinks the internet works like magic. "hey SE bump up your connection speeds and everything will be A-OK!" no. Servers are designed to only take up to a certain amount of peers and at a certain amount of speed.
I am very surprised with the little updates that have done to to increase server stability with little 3 hour maintenance's have indeed improved the game's delay/lag issue quite a bit since launch. I can say if you're on Verizon's FIOS, take a moment and Google whats going on with FIOS. If you've called Verizon and they fed you some B.S. excuse its SE's fault at Level3 they are lying to your face. It's Verizon capping your speed when you get there. Source:neighbors play the game with me and have FIOS while I have Comcast.
Thanks for the response KyteStones.
Regardless of who the blame falls under. I still to this day continue opening tickets with Verizon every week as it is really all I can do.
There is one thing SE can do. Put data centers in North america.
Then American players would definitely see reduced latency.
Sure, because taking the servers down for a week or two in order to move them would go over soooo much better. -_-
Side note, have people going through level 3 seen an improvement in their service lately? As I recall level3 completely crapped out last week requiring emergency repairs and I was wondering if they may have fixed the problem for level 3 customers permanently.
In general I haven't been too bad even during most peak hours, however Titan HM last night helping a friend I R0'd 3 times, got kicked from the server, and experienced huge amounts of lag in general about 10 minutes into the instance. I suppose it could be possible, though I haven't investigated, that the lag primarily occurs when connecting to an instance server, which I assume is separate from a regular server. BC I noticed no issues, a spike here and there but pretty stable.
The other possibility is that Level-3, because it cannot handle the amount of information, is limiting those with access to communications to the data center. I believe the data solutions center will kick players if the connection is horrendous enough, which extreme packet loss would induce. So Level-3 limitations -> Ormuco Data Center kick.
But I don't actually know for sure haha
And Europe, please :D
Anyway, the NA/EU servers are on Montreal right now, that's pretty close to most NA players. A lot further for EU players...
For me at least, yes. Of course not for everyone, but I know a lot of people who left the game or is leaving when the suscription ends and one of the reasons is the high latency we have now.
Interesting read since Netflix does eat up a good portion of traffic via transits, and peering ports in the US.

Yesterday, more talks have opened between Netflix, Verizon and AT&T.
