Golden! Hahahaha
I saw a few people saying they still support FFXI on Ps2. Outside of Japan they don't. While the Ps3 version isn't an immediate danger to FFXIV's progression it *may* in the future, but not anytime soon.
They still allow NA users to log in using PS2 they just never "officially" released the expansion pack for NA HOWEVER you can still get SoA to work on the PS2 using homebrew and loading the japanese files into the proper areas of the HDD then doing a file check it will force an update to patch them over into english. So it is still supported it just takes a bit more effort to use your system of choice.
That's half my pay check right there.
But, I'm a PC user and FF XIV isn't enough to get me to drop that kind of bones on a PS3 much less a PS4. Heck, I need to make some hardware upgrades to my PC but that is currently not a possibility, but I save when I can.
While support for the PS3 probably will be dropped outside of Japan, I don't expect it to happen any time in the near future.
I don't think I have missed the point. Firstly, I don't believe that split instances has to do with ps3 limitation since we had pretty massive open worlds in 1.0. This was more of a design choice to help reduce the server load per map. Just like how waking sands is in an instance of it's own? Also, you act like zone loading would be completely eliminated if ps3 did not exist which is completely not true =.=.... Aside from that, there really is no design philosophy that will be greatly affected by the PS3.THE ONLY only thing that is affected by this multiplatform support is the inventory design. But this won't change regardless if you op support for ps3 OR ps4 because it's just easier for console players to manage t heir inventory this way. It is just something we as pc players have to accept for now (perhaps in the future it'll be a switchable option just like gamepad/hotbars).
Other than that, the only thing they have to adjust every time content is pushed out is that ps3 has to have their graphic settings set to low while other platforms can do it on high.
Oh hey I just argued that it wasn't the ps3. Guess it was possible.
Me when I first saw this thread.

Provided they give a free PS4 to every PS3 owner... I support this message.
ffxi graphics sucks nowadays ? yeah , but still have this magic no other game has (it could be the AWESOME OST), plus vanadiel is a wonderfull world full of "magic"

They didn't drop PS2 support from XI so I doubt that PS3 support for XIV will. Other than the launch rush, the process of the general population making the switch can take about 2 years or so (when the first big price drop hits). Making that cut too early means cutting off customers who are willing to pay a monthly subscription fee.
I was playing at a friend's house and he was on his PC. He had already skipped the cutscene and ran over and opened the treasure chest before my loading screen had even halfway finished. Since I play a tank I feel bad about this because everyone absolutely is waiting on me every time (I have recently been playing around with CNJ as well so again everyone is waiting on my butt).
Just out of curiosity, how did the PS4 launch go? The PS2 and 3 launches were hit by pretty nasty shortages. Were there big eBay rushes again?
I play in both versions PC and PS3(because home and work). I can confirm 2 thing that anoy me in ps3 version... first ps3 is not FULL HD and second the framerate is terrible! if you compare for example acheron or behemoth atacking in ps3 vs PC you will see then atacking like a "paper moving with lag"... it need be fixed ^^ i hope ps4 version not will be the same with that terrible framerate... the game is playable in ps3 but their need do some updates to fix thoses 2 things.
I don't think they should force a switchover for an expansion or two, but once PS4 is a couple models in and the price is half or less, PS3 support should be dropped or lessened to limited areas of the game.
This just kills me.lol I have just as much fun on my PS3 as my PC(which exceeds recommended requirements). This is what's holding the game back, as you say:
FXIV: ARR Minimum System Requirements
Operating System: Windows® Vista 32/64bit, Windows® 7 32/64 bit
Processor: Intel® Core™2 Duo
Graphics: NVIDIA® Geforce® 8800 Series, ATI Radeon™ HD 4770
Memory: 2GB (4GB recommended for 64bit OS)
Disk Space: 20GB.
You may notice that these are lower than the minimum system requirements for v1.0. This is because Square Enix wants the game to be more accessible and run on a wider range of PCs.
So just stop the nonsense please!
I was about to bring this point up but you beat me to it. it isnt the PS3 the game was redesigned for, it was redesigned for the widest possible audience while maintaining as much of the graphics as they could get away with. despite it not being as high graphics wise as 1.0 I still think its beautiful and they have done a good job.
I have really no issues playing on PS3 and my experience is fantastic...I guess the true test is when I finally play on PS4 and see if I have actually been "missing" something all along and just did not know it. Ignorance is bliss right now because I don't know what I am missing...maybe if I knew someone playing on a bad ass PC and got to see them play then I would know for sure. Are the graphics actually better? Or is it just the frame rate??
PS4 version seems to run like a PC version @1080p medium/hight settings (hard to see on a video, same thing for the frame rate; at least a stable 30fps).
My attempt to burst your bliss bubble.
PC version is only as good as how well your PC is built. If your PC is very old or has very weak video card you can get a worse experience on a PC.
Build yourself a ~700-800 USD PC while a chunk(about 200+) is spend on video card and it's superior to PS3 version, or equivalent to PS4 version.
- PC like this can render at 60 FPS in most places at 1080p, no issues in highly populated fates. 100 max characters rendered. More graphical enhancements such as anti aliasing you can turn on.
- PS3 is max 30 FPS at 1280x512, stretch to 720p. has issues in high populated fates. 40 max characters rendered.
- PS4 should be equivalent to PC version at max settings and hardware is around same performance as this PC.
Example 800 USD gaming PC build(without windows):
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/...e-i5,3708.html
Note: Hardware in this setup is much more powerful than PS4. PS4 video performance is 1.8 TFLOPS. 280x can do 4.1 TFLOPS. When article was written 280x price was $300, however it's $400+ now (I blame bitcoin miners). Replace with GTX 760 (250 USD).
Extra bells and whistles for the PC players with extra money:
- 120hz or 144hz monitor. FFXIV supports setting refresh rate higher than 60hz and render higher than 60 fps. Makes game look more fluid. Requires lot powerful video card or multi video cards; and faster CPU.
- Triple monitor. Requires lot more powerful video card or multi video cards.
- 4k UHD monitor. Requires lot more powerful video card or multi video cards.
- SSD(Solid state drive). Speed up loading times and loading game resources. You can actually replace the HDD on the PS3 and PS4 with a SSD too to improve loading times.
- It is planned that SE will release a Directx 11 PC client about 6 months after PS4 version. This client will be better than PS4 version.
- etc.
I have an expensive setup. My setup is i7 3930k @ 4.5 Ghz, GTX Titan, Samsung 512MB SSD and Samsung 27" 120hz 1080p monitor. Average frame rate is around 90 FPS.
My next upgrade:

I have an idea....how about you buy us all a ps4.if not keep your stupid opinions to yourself.
SE lowered the graphics from 1.0 so most players with moderate PC can play, and you think they would drop PS3? which contains a significant share of players?
imo the only thing holding back this game right now are the casuals cuz atm nothing is challenging in the slightest bit and I doubt it'll get challenging anytime soon so if anything they solve this prob 1st
As someone who plays both, PC can look nicer if you can support the graphics. High end. Also you get to see a lot more players in a given area at a time. It is a little smoother, and a lot cleaner of a picture if you can turn it up all the way, but none of those things detract from the PS3 version. People who think it does are simply being kind of snobbish about graphics. FFIV is a beautiful game on the PS3. It is simply more beautiful on the PC.
FYI, while I played with high settings to see it, my system can't cope, so I ended up having to drop it down to a much lower rate, and it is about the same as PS3 on low. So PC doesn't magically mean better. High end PC is where the biggest differences come in.
Unless OP plans on buying brand new PS4s for all the PS3 players, I suggest they keep his/her Q Qing to themselves.
I got 99 things to get this year, and a ps4 within it's first year of release aint a one.
(Namely, a new wacom tablet. Hopefully a intros4/5 or cintuq 13 HD <3)
Also, if you're having issues with the ps3- connect with a ethernet. Fixes nearly everything. I certainly haven't had any problems with it.
Besides- who the heck is foolish enough to buy a console within the 1st year of life?
Did we learn nothing from the ps3/360 launch?
Been there and I'm not doing it again. I'm a PC gamer and I intended to buy a PS3 for FFXIII when it was launched. However, I bought it very early to play blu-rays and a few games that were later released on PC anyways; SFIV and DMC4. Funny thing happen when I was playing FFXIII on the last chapter, the blu-ray player broke :(.
I did end up finishing FFXIII later; when I broke down and bought another PS3.
I intend to buy a PS4 for FFXV, however I'm going to wait for a few revisions before buying one this time.
OP - thanks for reminding me why I don't bother getting on the forums anymore.....
It amazes me that people think this way---- sickens me.
I think it is worth noting that the OP has yet to make another post in this thread, going on 4 days and 24 pages. I believe their intent was to make an inflammatory comment just to get under the skin of people and most likely doesn't even believe what they said.
Good thing game quality has nothing to do with how shiny it looks. If you want pretty things to look at they do make these things called movies.
Far as your original argument I don't play on the PS at all so /shrug if they are happy playing on it and can do the content more power to them. If they can't then they can upgrade/swap to computer/or sit out on content.
actually you're wrong, you're not taking certain things into account, unlike the PS3 the PC also has windows(each driver set and any software takes memory to run on top of the minimum of the OS) to deal with otherwise minimum for PC would likely be 256MB as well
the PS3 isnt holding back anything, they have more restrictions in their settings and IU, they are limited to 30FPS(and arent they also limited to 1280x720?) which is actually better than quite a lot of the PCs currently running this game
It took me about two seconds to bring up my Windows Task Manager. Apparently I have 90 processes running at the moment, one of which being FFXIV. My physical memory usage is at a stable 45% out of 8GB of RAM. The minimum requirement for the operating systems that new PCs come out with is 2GB (if 64 bit, 1GB if 32-bit), though the OS doesn't typically use all of that RAM at any one point in time. 256MB is such an infinitesimally small number these days that it can't help but limit what can be done with the game. And I'm not just talking about graphics - I'm talking about even such things as basic UI features. So much of the horribly clunky UI functions (e.g. the bag, the hideous party UI, the menus within menus within menus) in XIV are because the PS3 version is already very much near its limit.
I'm not sure I'm explaining things well. Suffice to say, it's the 256MB that's the problem, not the 2+GB in PCs.
Oh omniwaink, you so crazy!
People who can't afford a PS4 should be focusing on improving their financial situation instead of playing games all the time anyway.
