Does SE actually ban botters?

They do investigate and ban players, i seen 2-3 banned(auto battle bots), but before you accuse someone of botting make sure they really are botting, send them tell, or ask simple questions, or best one, see how long they sitting in one spot and crafting.. if ore than 4+hrs in 1 spot maybe suspicious. Just remember not to accuse or report without proof because you dont wanna see yourself banned because someone/linkshell who hates you mass complain about you or just because u like to watch TV and press "X" button and barely keep eyes on the FFXIV screen.

I've been botting since day one. I've reported myself several times, but SE just won't ban me. 'Tis sad.

Nobody even cares.

they do ban botter. i reported 4-6 of them and now they are gone. pretty much GM is doing their job. only way to ban botter is reporting them. sooo report them!!!

how do you report them?

It says GM Call in the menu but nowhere does it say to call a GM to report a bot or rmt

I really cannot say if they were bots or not. They stayed still for quite some time. The weird thing was that after I stared a levequest, one of them did, and then the other, and so on. By the time I was back I only saw one or two.

A full investigation is obviously required. However it really seems they are only taking action against characters with frighteningly similar first or last names or they've been sitting in the same spot for a week while desynthing fish into wind crystals while at the same time having a bazaar with 8/10x999 wind crystals, making them an R20+ alchemist wearing the main-hand and clothes they spawned with, or no clothes at all.
