Not different to other games, everywhere you have spells that always do most dmg and those are used and the rest is just to have em. Remember FFXI how often did you use something else then Burst II or Freeze II on HNMs or wow it was all about arcane spams etc.

I never played Black Mage in FFXI.

I played Wizard in EQOA. Not only did they have Fire/Lightning/ice spells, but Wizard Fury lines which ignored defense. And I used all of them. Which is why I hated wow.

Stop limiting Wizards/Mages/Casters to 3 different spells, they need variety. Otherwise just called them Flame/Ice/Lightning mage and excel only at those and makes them worthless for a lot of content because a boss may resist them.

I remember that as well somewhere, saying with this new engine we will be able to get updates at a faster rate. Meaning Instead of 3 months to get content out it could be 1.5-2 months an update.

They have said that working with 1.0 engine is hard and take to long to learn/fix issue with 2.0 engine is faster and quicker to learn and easy to find issue in the game. From the alpha test you can tell the stress test work without a issue. In 1.0 i remember beta 1 we log in for 5sec and they had to shut down they did that for 3weeks. So i'm guessing from how things are going the alpha version is working fine with load of people.

I think it save to say that the new engine is doing just fine which mean more update and more stuff for both low level and high level.

And my point was that they already made enough content for everyone to get 50 and enough stuff to do for low level and even solo dungeon. The only thing is level 50 have to wait for crystal towers to be release by the time enough new player reach that level the crystal tower would be release that what i was saying.

Not everyone has OCD. FFXIV has the option to play all classes, but it does not mandate that you have to play all classes. For some people, getting all primal weapons is just obsessive and pointless. They want the weapons they can use on their main classes, and then want to move on.

I think the reason we try to 100% complete things at present is because , well, what else are we going to do?

So saying people haven't completed all content because they havent grinded everything 100+ times just depends on the definition of "completion". Many gamers might consider that a bit excessive.

Devs always say things to make their games sound and seem longer than they actually are.

You'll probably be able to gain a few levels every hour or so for the first 10 levels, and continue that pace until maybe.. level 20ish, with a level every hour or two.

It won't drop off until probably 25 or 30. And even then, there will still be PLing available in the game.. so who cares?

I must of been thinking DoH/DoL. Regardless, ARR is casual orientated, i highly doubt it will be hard or even stressful to level up.

I think if I were SE, I would treat the game like it is: a new game. They really can't consider the "needs" of a small group of people who will literally begin the game at max level. To make this game a success, they must focus where the majority of their player base will be and that won't be where we are.

Besides, there is always Arcanist. We can go experience the game anew on a level 1 class while we wait for the rest of the population to catch up to us.
