This. Only an idiot would call this game World of Fantasy, as FF has some pretty unique aesthetics to it. While there may be things that WoW set the standard for in terms of MMOs, story and aesthetics are not part of that list.

If you're asking what would make someone play FFXIV over other games, there's no way of knowing. Like you said, originality wasn't enough for Aion. Generally speaking what becomes "hot" is almost entirely random. In WoW's case it was combination of brand name and something more casual-friendly. What's next after that? Idk. Only thing you can do is change as much as you can, keep the conventions that seem important, and hope for the best. Didn't work out for Aion, who knows what will work for FFXIV, or if anything will. Predicting this sort of thing is basically shooting blind.

If you nitice, I've listed Brand name as a main draw in the opening post. My idea behind this thread is to find as many draws and original features as possible so I can have grounds for telling other people what they can take from this game that they can't from anywhere else.

Because I want to support it to see what it will become in 2.0 and so I can finish up things that won't be available in ARR. Simple as that.

i play monster hunster because it has incapacitation, sooo...

it is cool to chop off a monsters tail, or break their beak. those are things that are cool :|

also the most memorable thing from valkyrie profile 2 for me was the incap.

I'm still here as well, huh~ We are brethren, sargatanians shouldn't be fighting each other!

My point is this: When I play Skyrim, it is not "So that the game can succeed and thrive", when I play Virtua Fighter 5, or Melty Blood, or Castlevania: HD, or Fable III, it is not for the game, it is not for any future game. I play it because there are aspects of the game that I find fun and appealing.

What do you find fun and appealing in this game to play it?

Because I want to experience what 4.0 has to offer before they get rid of it and so I can have a leg up in 2.0.
I don't hate the game as it is, but I recognise its shortcomings.

Why are you asking me?

I would say a sense of community/rivalry is what could draw people to the game. The fact that every nation is sorta in a friendly competition with each other, but ultimately are working together for the same cause which is of course saving the world. It's not like other mmo's where pvp draws a pretty solid line between factions, your free to party with anyone you want. That was the main thing that drew me to ffxi over other mmo's

I hope to see more instances or partying and grouping in the future to promote this aspect.
