if instance is the answer to provide fair features for everyone then be it, again its not like community is rushing them. The housing problem has been a case for close to a decade and they couldve easily easily figured out an alternative after 4-5 years
Well in terms of storage one thing to remember is FFXI didn't have retainers either
A game I played in the past Wild Star had what is probably the closest thing to the instanced housing people on the forum seem to enjoy throwing around. Everyone had access to it. And it was hardly used by players. Most simply just had quest rewards randomly tossed into them and nothing more. Which leads to the thoughts that a very sizable if not majority of the housing demand in this game is simply due to it being a limited resource.
Savage isn't only timegating, it's also skill gating.
It's content a minority of players will even get to engage with, there's a ton of mounts and such too tied to it that most players will never see even if they really really want it.
There's a lot of different reasons why people unsub too.
I get that it's a frustrating issue, personally I am too poor to even try to get a house rofl and I do want one.
I just think that the argument that you're owed a house because you sub is ridiculous.
I'll be real honest. I never hated the housing systems. I'm simply not interested into pouring my time into a house that eventually will turn my ball and chain because of the autodemolition systems. That's it, and specially because I'm irregular when it comes to keeping my subscription.
They could make the system throw me for a loop and gate me as many times as they want in order to buy a house. As long as the reward doesn't need me to resub I would be completely content with the road I get in turn. As long as autodemolition is still a thing, I won't really care about housing anything beyong using my apartment as a storeroom of sorts.
Housing isn't gated. Not for the reasons you imply anyway. There are requirements in order to try and purchase a home, but these restrictions are in place to prevent a myriad of exploitations that players would undoubtedly take advantage of otherwise.
Housing not being available to everyone is due to limited availability, not bad design. If housing was a bad design, there wouldn't be anywhere near the same amount of players wanting to take advantage of the benefits it provides. The "bad design" you refer to have been the various approaches to how a player and FCs acquire land in a residential district. However, there is always going to be a certain subset of players that will deem any and all systems that cannot accommodate the entire playerbase flawed and unfair.
There is nothing to remedy limited housing other than to make it unlimited. The only thing they can do is implement a system that is fair for everyone who qualifies to purchase land. And by fair, this means that no one who qualifies to purchase land has an advantage or disadvantage from any other player who also qualifies. You can definitely make a case about the qualifications being fair. However, this will require critical thinking in order to make a case to present facts opposed to feelings and opinions.
Housing was never design for personal purchase, it was originally designed for FC only. Personal housing did not come until later in ARR because there were not enough FCs to purchase all houses. Now personally I think the better way to do it was likely to make either FC housing, or personal housing instanced. This would also cause problems, look at EW release where people were AFKing in there houses, you could not get into your house as the inside is instanced, when the recent bid completed people reported issues getting into there houses as well. Ultimately it all goes back to server issues, this game is full of them and it has been holding the game back since ARR and I still to this day do not understand why these have not had major upgrades. EW release the excuse was covid, but these problems existed far before EW.
