Asmongold's First Impression with Final Fantasy 14

I didn't think he'd like it, but he admitted he does. No complaints here. I said in another topic I wasn't worried about Asmongold himself being toxic, but his viewers. I'd also be lying if I said I wasn't watching the cut down vods on youtube. Well, listening, I can't look at my phone at work.

Anyway I'm honestly glad he's enjoying himself in this game and hope he keeps doing so.

The worry is less him and more those who will follow him. We've got a few problem children like any game but overall the atmosphere and game experience is pleasant. We don't want that disrupted.

Personally I would be more supportive of him if he was streaming as Zack Rawrr instead of as Asmongold TV. The difference between the two is huge. Zack Rawrr is a thoughtful adult encouraging others to think. Asmongold TV is an inciter who love generating drama for the extra views. It was pretty funny to see someone point out that all the exaggerated eyebrow twitching he does as Asmongold TV is almost totally absent from Zack Rawrr.

Thank goodness he's been quick to point out (and repeat) that SE came down on those who were interfering with him over the weekend. Hopefully those who do follow him here get the message - don't pull the crap they're used to pulling in WoW. SE won't ignore it like Blizzard does.

Yeah. I think this is and is going to be the biggest factor in regards to his followers, who I was hesitant about. Looks like I have nothing to worry about though. Apparently even his chat has been pretty excited to see him dive into FF XIV, but I'm guessing part of that is them following their esteemed "lord and savior". :p What he likes, they will like by default. Either way, he has sparked a LOT of interest in the game over the last few days, so we can only benefit from that. Maybe it will incentivize the WoW devs to step up their game as well. It's most likely a pipe dream but you never know.

SEs strict rules are still in play, and SEs strict rules are the ONLY reason this games current community even seems more pleasant than Asmongolds followers.

This community worrying about outsiders being too toxic is kind of ridiculous;

Starter is free trial without the trial restrictions (ARR+HW).
Shadowbringers is the current expansion plus any previous expansion you don't have yet (ShB + SB).
Complete is everything (ARR-ShB).

Why would that be less confusing? We have two now, and it makes more sense for Stormblood to be included with the expansion rather than the base game.

Complete is just combining the two, so it's even less confusing to just buy Complete for your first purchase.

I disagree.

Again, he's not really looking to replace WoW. FFXIV has enough content to be a side game, which is perfect for him.

He is mainly a PvE player, so the state of PvP won't matter much, and he might still enjoy it for what it is.

He is used to gathering 4-39 players. 7-23 players won't be an issue, assuming there are enough of them in the game watching his streams, which is likely.

TBF I thought of this after seeing like 30 posts over the past three weeks on reddit on new players being SUPER confused by what they needed to buy, so my idea basically simplifies it into how WoW used to do it. WoW basically kept rolling the previous expansion into the base game when the new expansion came out, so all you had to buy was 'world of warcraft' and 'New expansion' (wow now just lets you sub to everything but the latest expansion, but similar concept).

On the concept of purchasing FFXIV, and other systems like that, I would definitely agree there could be some improvements and looking at WoW could be a potential reference (doesn't mean it has to be copy paste).

I remember when I got my new PC simply installing the game again was a bit annoying. Not impossible, clearly, but I was like "where.. the.. Thal.. is the downloader?". It was easier to google, see a sketchy looking site (imo) that I only trusted because I knew the benchmarks look like that too, and there it was on my computer again. Account area is pretty gnarly sometimes too.

None of it is impossible but it's certainly not the shining example of beauty or ease of use.

Not wanting to go too long without balance, I would say I quite like their new player guide area - new patch sites and stuff. I've looked through a lot of that, even when I already knew most of it, just because it was kind of fun to see all the work put into them.

Someone can make some pretty areas, they should go unify, beatify, and simplify that other stuff lol.

There is some nuance that I don't really want to pry open since I've generally avoided discussing the topic, but I'm more people come and do what people do (and SE acts as the bumpers), and if he wants to come over then he can without any sort of foreword, gates, and contractual obligations needed to oblige, and SE will need to respond on however they believe their garden should appear like (not that I don't think individuals don't have responsibility, but that SE is the governor of FFXIV land and so they'll ultimately be the arbiter of acceptable behavior).

I'm not a fan of any sort of he's unwelcome because of his fans, guilt by association type thing - it isn't the trough I like to visit (I'm not saying one has to be excited of the potential storm). If one isn't "excited" he's coming is different than starting to board up the gates, "don't come" "you better be good sir or I'll kick you out!" "I'm going to fill your screen up with chocobo doooodooo cause I'm 2" etc lol. Nuance exists, I'm just leaving at I'm unimpressed with some of the responses to Asmongold coming over, especially after he's been putting on a popular show and being fairly kind to the game, not that he's required to. He could hate the game and it'd be fine. There are many games I dislike, that I should be allowed to. Of course if I dislike it, after saying so I should move on lol. But that's why you don't see me over in the EVE forums talking about how I think the whole situation is inspiring yet insane and absolutely painful sounding :p.

Note that some of that may sound like I'm saying to you that "you" shouldn't require obligations from him, and I haven't followed every word so I wouldn't know if you did or did not say that, but I'm under the assumption you have not, and I was speaking generally - as I've generally skimmed this topic (as summarized for reasons in this and the other post). So hopefully doesn't look like an accusation and just some things I skimmed over here and seeing on twitter and such media sites and felt "....sigh". Also while never even slightly popular on twitch (did much better on youtube) I've streamed (not FFXIV) and super excited chat can sometimes be a bit... "young" but having spoke to many of those members on a more personal level it's just more like a colony buzzing and maybe a bit 'mosh pit' excited atmosphere, bouncing about the walls happy to be hanging out, so I don't really fear anyone he does bring anyways since I assume most would behave far differently when off on their own doing their own thing in the game (and I assume those who do seriously misbehave that SE will take care of lol).

I think it just reflects on their focus.

WoW is all about the current content, so anything that is not in the current expansion might as well be part of the base game.

FFXIV is a remake from 1.0, so they emphasized that you're buying FFXIV ARR, not simply FFXIV (only now they added HW to it). And then you have the expansions added afterward, but you only need to buy the latest expansion to get everything beforehand as it's a linear game. (It doesn't make sense to buy Shadowbringers and not get Stormblood since you need to do Stormblood first, which is not the case with WoW.)

At the end of the day, neither is more complex.

WoW: base game + latest expansion
FFXIV: base game + latest expansion

The difference is what's in the base game and what's in the latest expansion.

FFXIV also has complete edition that combines the two.

Tbh, Mogg Station is the true first Extreme, and unless you can pass that instance, you won't get into FFXIV.

I want SE to nerf that instance into the ground, as it's a bit too OP atm.
