As much as I love the achievements...

Please... If you crafted before all the updates you know how long it took to get to 50. I tell you - more than it should.
I believe if they tracked them down I would be pretty close (or even there) to getting my golden saw. I made thousands of masks during the old days (200 exp per synth, manually picking every ingredient.) so please, NO ONE is going to argue with me that I wouldn't get even half of the synths. I did way more.

That's why I will never redo all this crafting just for some stupid tool. I probably won't even use.

its an achievement, not an instant gratification button. buu huu if you did all this before. ive been playing since day 1.. oh well! im almost done with my culinarian skillet now :D been busting my ass too, time consuming, yes. but who cares. i get to fill the markets with something for a reason, i wouldnt be sitting here making pastry fish and button blankets if i got my skillet already ;)

I don't have single craft/gather/company/whatever grind achievement and would never do that. I want contents that are challenging, not contents that involves one button while watch TV. If something makes no difference being there or not, it's just a failure and a waste of time.

I think you're confusing pointless with optional. It is there for people who want to do it, however it does not adversely affect people who do not wish to do it. That is the nature of achievements.

and pointless to one person has plenty of meaning to others(like me, with my 2255 achievment points)

some of us feed off stuff like this, the completionist in us loves it


some people dread it and see it as a chore no matter how easy or hard it is

Well, I think the worst achievements are "Lost in Localization" (complete 10,000 Local Leves) and Region d'Etre (complete 10,000 Regional Leves)

Using EVERY SINGLE LEVE ALLOCATION you earn, it'll take about 3.5 years for *each* of these. The problem isn't so much the time needed to complete these, it has to do with the rate at which you get new leve allocations. Good luck, bro.

the local one is pretty bad

the regional 10k isnt as bad since you can share others leves and they count towards yours

a group of 8 doing this daily rack up 64 credits a day towards it which is only half a year in the end instead of 4 years


but some of these werent meant to be easy short term goeals, they were meant to happen over the longrun

and some of them(the 100mil) will get easier after the cap raises too when the rewards get higher

This right here is what so many people are neglecting to understand. The "my previous play does not count towards new achievements" issue is a problem with *all games* that implement achievements after day 1. The bottom line is that they had no way of accurately tracking that you mined 3,242,243,200 nodes before they decided that was important information to track. They'd give you that credit if they could, but they cant. Does it suck? Yeah, if you already did all that and really care about the achievement. But that's just the way online games work, stuff gets added, and you dont get retroactive credit for it.

These achievements were clearly not meant to be completed overnight, or even the first week or month after they went live. They are thinking about new players and the long term, we all knew the game would be going through radical changes until 2.0 went live, if you didn't agree with that then you were more than welcome to cancel your subscription and come back and do it the "easy way" after the changes are made, but you chose not to. If you want to painstakingly grind out thousands of synths just for your luminary tool, thats your call, but nobody said it would just be a freebie because you already had that craft at 50, nor should it be. The achievements were designed in a way that you'll probably get about half way just by regular old leveling the crafts, and if you really want the reward, you'll either get it over time as you naturally *play the game* and create things or mine things or whatever, or you can buckle down and focus hard on it. In that regard, i'd say some of the numbers could use a little tuning (materia melding/creating comes to mind), but overall they are pretty on track with how they were designed to function.

If they lowered the numbers or gave out freebies, people would be moaning just as much about how its not fair because *they* did it the hard way and now everyone and their mother has full luminary tools. You just can't please everyone.

Another topic that is essentially, "I played FFXIV too much too early! Now the game's all different and it's forcing me to *insert seemingly negative thing here*. I should be entitled to *insert seemingly positive thing here*!!"

yeah why would someone that completed something in this game want credit for doing something in this game? the entitlement some people have. i can't believe people think doing something in xiv would expect to be given credit for doing something in xiv.
