Please lets not even blame FFXI here. Its been said way before Eureka even came out in Stormblood that it was their next attempt at Diadem and lo and behold its Diadem minus the gathering and FATES being turned into NMs or have we forgotten about Dinosaur Island? Its an issue with the fact that they can't accept that since its first iteration the Diadem style content has failed and they can't even iterate on it in a proper manner even though player feedback has given a good chunk of ideas to help spice things up in there. Only reason Eureka is more prominent this time around is because its Relic, had it not been for the system being tied to it we probably would have scapegoated something else besides FFXI for the lack of engaging and long lasting content that isn't dead once a new patch is out.
The game fails to offer anything worthwhile or worth grinding for any aspect. Neat glamours are shafted into the Cash Shop instead of being transferring into Crafter Recipes and they've yet to give them a reason to be worth anything outside of World First teams given how easily Tomestone armor eclipses crafted armor, though thats more an issue of the lack of build variety given how streamlined it is. Anything that you could grind or want will never hold any trophy value like most MMOs since it seems nothing is safe from being reused given the Zodiac Relics themselves were eventually reused. So what is a player to do if the grind isn't rewarding since if it holds any trophy value it'll eventually be given out like candy alongside all gear losing its stat value once a new iLvl drops?
