The Samurai buffs are terrible. (Preliminary Patch Notes)

It's also good for any static that doesn't optimize buffs as much. People don't really take in account the player's skills with the jobs in question either. If you're way better SAM than you're something else, you'll be better off playing SAM until you get as good at the meta bois.

It will translate in a overall 2% damage increase in a vaccum (full uptime).

To this day, BLM still confuses the hell out of me. MCH is the same. But when you become proficient with how the class plays, it becomes a breeze and numbers become a non issue.

In the case of SAM and BLM, similar roles at different ranges with "comparable" numbers will always boil down to player skill. If you're a well geared, proficient BLM you're gonna bring the heat to your charts. Same as SAM. I'm just thankful for any changes at all. Shows that the devs care and are learning from mistakes or changes they made before.

And let's also remember. Everything is theoretical until the patch actually drops.

Black Mage doesn't have to compete for a very competitive melee spot though. With Devotion being lackluster, Embolden laughable and Refresh covered through at least one physical range, Black Mage has a much easier time fighting for the fourth DPS slot. Samurai, meanwhile, competes against Trick Attack, Battle Litany, Shadewalker, Smokescreen, Dragon Sight, Brotherhood and the absurdly OP Disembowel. It's going to lose every single time because even at 2% more damage, it's not touching the sheer benefits those abilities bring. At a less optimized setting, sure, Samurai has more of a place, but this assumes the Samurai is far better than the Dragoon or Ninja.

I think DRK got more potency increases in 1 skill through Dark Arts than SAM did over all of its skills.

That saddens me. (Not that DRK doesn't need work, but seriously?!)

it's not a dps increase for DRK, it's just another way to spend Dark Arts on. but the damage you can get through Dark Arts is limited by your mana. spending mana on skill A or spending it on skill B doesn't matter. however, DRK got a new mana refresh in bossfights, so you can use 4 extra Dark Arts over 10 minutes.

I doubt they'll leave it like that. Until we can try it on actual fight. I'm pretty sure we'll see more changes sooner than later. No one is happy with these buffs so far... So I'm sure SE will do something!

^dont count on it, remember when they said about DRG change but in the end all they do is only increase DRG potency? have a feeling they probably do the same too here

generaly, brd/mch, drg and nin will remain the most desirable

brd/mch: dps classes with the lowest persobal dps other than rdm

and dtg/nin: 2 if the hardest classes in the game

those classes will always remain the most desirable dps..

but since 4.2, blm have a eay better time in PFs (even if some still prefere smn & rdm, since they buff), and sam was as least desirable than ever (also since the mnk buff) in 4.2

but now, 4.3 expect sam to be as desirable as blm, if not a tick more thanx to slashing debuff in most PFs

sure, if sam wants the drg or nin spot in HC static, might be harder to get in.. but as blm its still hard to get the caster or ranged spot (even if smn and rdm buff are not that great, every one likes buffs and both rdm and smn have rez)

sam and blm will probably be equally(-ish) in 4.3.., just the mnk buff in 4.2 is imo still a bit big, especially when using the "TK" trick

Actually, Machinist has fallen hard. While still technically meta, Summoner has eclipsed it the top tier speed kills—with Black Mage closely nipping on its heels. As for Samurai, the buffs offered are negligible at best. You will scarcely notice unless you're pulling nearly 7,000. At which point... you already had a better chance than most to get into a good group. Slashing, meanwhile, is borderline worthless. No one takes Samurai for Slashing because the odds are exceedingly low you won't have Warrior or Ninja. Furthermore, Slashing is actually a DPS loss on Samurai as it either has to gimps its own rotation by applying it early, thus Midare will miss all raid buffs, or the raid is forced to wait seven GCDs instead of two or three.

I laughed out loud when I read this. A WAR or NIN is likely to be in the party. And a WAR will apply it all the time so it doesn't matter if SAM has it.
