What is your view on RP or ERP and why is it so taboo within the community?

Spamming emotes or messages in chat count as harassment, yeah, but mods aren't going to bother anyone RPing in /say or /em unless they’re getting vulgar. Besides, /say isn’t shouting in public, its talking. If you're getting this annoyed by people talking to each other in a city, area chat must drive you up a wall lol

Well i RP but im being "myself" if ya know. Like my character is my personality irl. Dunno if i should call that for rp. But i call it for RRP(real role play). Id like to think my character evan is kind of a alter ego of me irl in a virtual game like this.(if it even made more sense).

Well ive been giggling reading all of ur experience encountering rps in dungeons xd i would say they r kind of bit extreme xDd.
I only see myself as the hard hitting stone whm in dungeon without doing any emotes xD being self confident of my work and com people i think did a good job. Even in raids i joke alot. So.. uh.. mayby i dont rp but being myself? Dunno but yh

It, like a lot of things, is only a problem when it's being forced onto someone who ain't about that life.

As a cat, people tried to solicit me for that shenanigans and it was actually irritating to find out someone didn't want to be my friend for me as a person, but for their ERP sessions to which I wanted no part of.

As for RP, it's triple annoying when someone's character is made to be bratty and rude and they act like that to everyone because it's their "character."

We do have a chat section for that. It's called /em. You can, amusingly enough, filter it out of your chat log so you never see it.

Going over more of this thread, I think one of the biggest problems is that people don't know where to draw the line between OOC and IC. I've seen fc drama caused because someone couldn't keep their character's dislike to another character from affecting how they, the player, acted towards that other chara's player. People really need to keep those things in proportion.

To anyone saying city-state rp is spam - it most certainly is not, are you kidding me? It might be long messages and there're a lot of them but it's content. It's not someone spamming an emote or, some worse things I've seen, sound bits. It's content some people might not wanna see but it's really not spam o.O I'd be hella confused if rping went against the ToS in an mmorpg

to me it doesn't matter as long as it isn't in my face. Of course if it's an RP server that I joined, I shouldn't be complaining, that's my own fault even tho it might have been not marked as such. But if it's on an server, that is not known for RP then it should be kept to tells/linkshells/company chats and not the regular zone/say chat. Same for ERP, I don't care what people do in their free time, but again keep it out of Zone/Say chat otherwise there's always the chance that some players will get reported, and GM's actually do take action in these kind of cases, especially if there's ERP on Zone chat.

I don't know anyone who really cares about the people who do *real* RP (as in, know IC vs OoC times, have done research and stuff like that. Are serious about it and all), its the people who do it to annoy others (macro every GCD with text, Ice Mages, and so on) that are the issue.

And ERPers doing their thing where others can be affected. /tell /party /linkshell, lock the house you're using, something to keep it private or don't do it.

I can't help it. I get a sour grimace on my face when I see cat girls/boys going on with the "Le ~~mew~~ *nuzzles against you* =^-^="

I've also seen some horrrrendously raunchy Lower Limsa ERP that makes your chin retract into your neck.

Some light hearted, easy going in character RP can be fun though. Some people just go weirdly far for my taste.

I disagree. People can RP wherever they please in public zones using /say as long as it's not explicit. It doesn't matter what server it is.

It depends. I've seen cringey and raunchy rp before and it made me want to claw my eyes out.
