speaking of which didn't Yoshi-P mention some where that they plan to give Mage jobs Range Auto-attacks once the new Battle system is added into the game?

Again, why would Yoshi state it was a ranged class if that was the case? Until I see hard proof that states otherwise, that's I'm going by.

"Equipment for remote magic DPS (head / torso / hand / leg / foot) Remote magic DPS includes mage magazine / majutsutor / black mage / summoner plus red mage added at patch 4.0
Because it's primarily a ranged class that only uses melee attacks as a punctuation or finishing move type of thing. People aren't making up the melee attack thing, by the way. The post you quoted is almost word for word what was shown in the slideshow at the fan fest where they announced Red Mage. What some people ARE doing, however, are taking the known melee component and running with it hard, turning it into a major component of what the job does. That interpretation of it is not going to be the case. Here are the actual slides:

It's like saying that DRG is ranged job, because it has bunch of ranged skills; It's a melee job with ranged skills. RDM is a ranged job with melee skills.
DRG ranged skills are still str based (not dex) and RDM melee skills will be int based, because Yoshi wants to keep it simple - it would be annoying if DRG ranged skills were dex based ya?
Well you have the proof there in the 2nd pic that Mhaeric showed.
You should watch the trailer, it shows how RDM hybrid skills will work, it's primarily a caster with some melee skills.
That by itself is not a new concept, all ninja mudras except for fuma are ranged, are elemental damage but scale off DEX. All melees except for monk also have 1 physical ranged skill including tanks.
Samurai, been waiting since 1.0 for this. Will be playing Red Mage on my alt though.
No I mean like Drg vs monk and ninja, I come from maining a monk and monk and ninja do not have the same as other classes once Huton and gl3 are up. Personally I don't see Sam as a speed class from what was said and shown at fanfest. But time will tell how it's going to play ^^
I've wanted a sword wielding melee DPS for as long as I've played this game so I will inevitably be going SAM. Unless, of course, the running/walking animations are similar to the NIN ones...
