I might have to look into that then. Been a long time since I seen anything about the job concept.
Either way, BLM sounds fun to play this time around since I won't be cripped by gear swaps like XI.

Assuming we are even keeping the same elemental wheel.
Funny thing is that Ifrit being fire based should be weak to wind and Aero belongs to CNJ, so would a CNJ be better at DDing Ifrit or would a THM ?
Does a THM lose any magic potency if he uses cross class magic spells such as Aero ?
ofc it will hurt him, fire on fire elemental hurt them, its just not optimal or as good as say water, the one being removed! :O lol
so things will stay the same, where its X class onry to specific events. All this diversity will end up being a waste because people will always want to use the best strategy and already its clear blm is not part of that strat unless the mob is weak to blm's 2-3 specific spells or they need sleep or something.
maybe mages wont lose potency when cross skilling. Which fixes that lil issue.
Not to burst any bubbles but i thought Arcanist was more of a "trap" mage class? I could swear Yoshi-P said that somewhere...maybe the first Live Letter or right before it. Would it make sense to give it regular elemental magic?
Also without Water the wheel could look like:
Stone > Thunder > Wind > Fire > Ice > Stone
Stone absorbs the Thunder cracks through the Wind blows out the Fire melts the Ice entraps the Stone.
As far as the Light/Dark spells I would assume those to be reserved for a new class entirely, hopefully Time Mage (since Time Mage did have Astral Magic [it did have Meteor as its final spell in Tactics])
Ancient Magic might become a Scholar thing, learning the old magicks and stuff
Enfeebles might introduce a Red Mage type class/job (Fencer > Red Mage anyone?)
But then there is the talk of the Geomancer (which I believe Yoshi-P said he wanted to introduce as it is/was a Japanese favorite back in XI's day so I assume it still is)
