I'm highly amused at the abuse the term "Lore" is suffering in this thread. Folks, "lore" has nothing to do with game mechanics. It has to do with the storyline and backstory of the game. "Jobs learn their skills from class quests" is not lore. "Blue magic was proven to be a myth by Sharlyan scholars" is lore. And in both cases, there's still flexibility. SE COULD create a unique learning system for Blue Mage (though I'm seriously doubting they'd make the effort), countering the first example. The Sharlyan scholars could have been wrong, countering the second example.
Honestly, HOW Blue Mage learns their spells doesn't matter to me much. Blue mages have had almost as many different methods for learning their spells as there are games in the Final Fantasy series - whether they have to be hit by the ability, just see it, capture the ability with Lancet, or freaking eat the mob to learn the ability, there's PLENTY of room for this game to do it however it wants.
It also doesn't matter to me whether they have a thousand Blue Magic spells, or just a handful. As long as I have a job that uses monster abilities as a decent part of their arsenal, that'll be enough for me. Though, as a personal request, I'd love to see "Flying Sardine" as BLU's ranged attack, just because it'd be hilarious. Especially if BLU is a tank, and this is their ranged enmity pulling tool. XD
Mob: "Did you just throw a fish at me? He just threw a fish at me! Oh, man, it is ON!"
