Is it better to type CIoudthethirdclone instead Cloud Ferrol?
You still get stupid names without last names
I love the surnames.
My first char is Sonea Felis, my second char is Skadi Felis and my future male Miqo'te should get the surname Felis, too

While I agree with your first paragraph's logic (though I pay no attention to the broken aggro icon I can't turn off!), I can't agree with the 2nd paragraph. Did you ever play City of Heroes? I think it was also in Champions Online too, where they had an ability to make the surname optional in a manner of speaking.
I think what SE means with shorter the names is shorter the numbers of letters in the names
From 3-15 (current) to 3-8 or 3-6
Instead Qwertzuiopasdfg Qwertzuiopasdfg (2*15) it would be Qwertzui Qwertzui (2*8)
I think its fine the way it is. There are a few people that have insanely long names, what of it? If you don't want to invite them (because you are too lazy to ask them, or look it up, or memorize or write down their name), don't. Just that simple - leave it to choice. However, be sure to tell them you are too important to be bothered with their name so they can truly know they didn't miss anything by being in a party with you.
It's hilarious; this vocal minority crowd on this game that screams, "I want things to be easier for me, so take away the option for others!" I detest this attitude in life and I'm not fond of it in my entertainment either.
It may be necessary when they change the UI.
Maybe they should condider improving the UI so that you can type a message to a person who is near you by clicking on their name, like you can check or browse them now.
Perhaps they should also allow you to click on a name typed in chat or linkshells to invite them to parties.
They definitely whould improve the Linkshell interface so that you can send a tell or invite a linkshell member directly from seeing their name in the list.
Then it wouldn't matter how long your name is or how difficult it is to spell.
I'd rather keep the name I have already instead of having to rename because it turns out it's too long, thanks <.<
The only thing I have against long-ass names is when I'm trying to type out their name after they shout for a party.
I would like to see surnames stay because its much easier to get a name instead of sitting at the screen for an extra hour because all names are taken. If it must be reduced just make it 10 characters for first and 10 for last.
I can understand why people complain about the length, people clearly abuse the shit out of it. Often I'll look at some characters, and it's more like a bad Scrabble hand than a name.
However, when Square gets around to implementing the obvious search function, like we should have had months ago, that won't really be an issue, so I am perfectly fine with keeping them as they are.
