Yeah I'm worried that is what they mean.
I wanted to see LS become Social groups and allow us to form "Free Companies" in-line with more regular Guilds or alliances.

I think I'd rather see an official translation before I form an opinion.
Did he just say that they were going to add Summoner?. . . :D. . .
(*Head explodes*)
Also, I hope that Alexander would be the Light/Astral elemental Primal.
I think Summoners should work something like this:
Summoners has elemental summons like FFXI (Fire spirit, Water Spirt, etc)
And then they would have a summon system similar to that of FFXII: Revenant Wings in which there were multiple ranks for summons. And summons for all 8 elements (Astral summons could be healing oriented ones too).
Also, im not liking the whole primal summoning idea either. :/
It depends entirely on how they add summons. If a summoner job only gets to summon bullcrap summons like elementals along with maybe Carby or something, the job will blow.
This sounds like an idea based on the amount of feedback from a large portion of the community who has wanted summoning to be a group-effort instead of an actual job, long before the game even launched. Most SMN threads I have read on XIV have been about how they should be like 2hours and the whole group would have to meet a certain requirement. While this sounds awesome in theory, this is as ridiculous as all of us who do not play DRG to talk about how the DRG job should work based on our own wants. SMN was one of the least played classes in XI, obviously from most of the talk going on about SMNs long before this translation, most of the people chiming in about how SMNs should operate never played SMN and just want to be able to summon crap without having to play the job.
I don't want the pets to be weak like they were in XI, but I don't want them overpowered or on some asinine 2 week cooldown which takes multiple people in your linkshell to complete. It amazes me that other games can get pet jobs done correctly, but SE struggles as though it's so hard. Either make summons extra strong and the SMN extra flimsy with really no way to do anything without a summon present, or make it 50/50 where the SMN can nuke/debuff/cure/buff as well as the summon, like a 50/50 split. Not this stupid 25/50 split like SMN/WHM in XI, nor this ridiculous, "Primals should only be summonable by large groups of people." Realism should not interfere with gameplay mechanics, and very few people want to play a job that is underpowered or relies heavily on the rest of the group's whim.
I think we should discussing on how we charge the summoning bar and how the summon spell cast....that will determine if this a WIN or a Facepalm moment...
News! although it not set in stone about summoners!
JPGAMES.DE, Frederick: What about the primal and the summoning?
Yoshida Naoki: The summoning system of FINAL FANTASY XIV is quite different from what you know from other classes, like the summoning classes or the beast master classes. It’s totally different, because to me the primals – Ifrit, Titan, Leviathan or Moogle – are all gods in the game and I don’t want to have several mini-Ifrits on the battlefield, because that doesn’t make sense. *laughs* I really want just one Ifrit in one world and the free company that defeats him gets the license to summon this primal. If that company summons or calls Ifrit, on the whole world the weather will change, so everyone will realize that someone called Ifrit. The world will be like in flames. To me, this is really FINAL FANTASY-like. And of course I’m going to make sure it is not unfair, everyone will have this opportunity. But we like to have the free companies to compete with each other to make sure to get this primal as an opportunity.
For example, if they defeat Ifrit, they have one chance to summon. But once they summon Ifrit, it goes away and someone else needs to defeat him to have another go at summoning him. We will give you more details, but this is how it looks like at the moment – so be excited!
*laughs* Oh, I did tell you quite the information there, so… *laughs*
