Yeah, three level 60, without a proper healer. Do the same, then you'll be allowed to laugh.
So, maybe you'll prefer this guide.
Turning off Defiance is something that Xeno does in a VERY situational manner and he even states in that guide that it is extremely difficult to master.
Dropping your tank stance is done for one reason only, to increase your DPS, which as a tank, you should never need to do. If you are looking for ways to boost your DPS as a tank and you are not overgeared for the content and are in progression. You are doing it wrong.
Did I ever say it was "easy" ?
It just baffles me when someone is absolute about "MT needs to be always in tank stance" It's narrow-minded, stupid, and just plain wrong.
And it's not because the mechanic is difficult to master that we should avoid having it in the game because "some people will be utterly bad at it"
I'd say that there is one reason to do so during progression (and you don't want to be in a situation where you'd be doing this), when you're trying to meet DPS checks and the DPS aren't pulling their weight. But in that case, you'd probably want to avoid getting into such a situation in the first place.
I've been seeing a lot of different way people have been asking for a change to the DRK tank stance. But it gave me an idea of them going back to the basics that they had explained in the concept for the DRK. At the time they had said you would have a skill that would increase your defence at the cost of MP. hence the reason they called it a "piety" tank now im assuming somewhere along the line they ended up switching that to darkside instead... but what if they made it where when you use grit you create a magical bubble of darkness around you. so when you take dmg it takes the damage out of your MP instead of HP. and in the case you run out of MP it will change so that it will then make it where a bit of damage taken is turned into MP which is then used to reduce the damage of the next attack.
Darkside would sacrifice your life. However it would also enhance your abilities as well. Since its optional you don't need to use it to tank either. Dark Knight is an advanced Job and thus it needs to be harder to play then the other tanks do, easy to learn and hard to master.
Grit since it drained MP like Darkside, however it no longer reduces your damage either. However now you can't just spam your mana abilities, you have to use Blood Weapon and Blood Pact to manage your MP. If you use both Grit and Darkside you have to manage BOTH your health and MP.
It really depends on what your fighting and what class your on. OT's should never have their tanking stance up during a fight for instance when they aren't up for bat, and WARs have a very real reason to drop Defiance for Fell Cleave now. Not to mention the amount of crap DPS there are out there makes maximizing your damage as tank at the bare minimum a worth while thing to do. The benefits out weight the negatives.
Stance Dancing is quite a real thing now whether people want to accept it or not. Unfortunately DRK is getting the raw end of this deal since the cost of Grit can make this prohibitive.
