I would argue the difference is your paying a sub for ffxiv. No1 wants to pay a subscription for a game they don't play more than once or twice a week. MMOs have to have long lasting content to justify the subscription fee. Level and Gear grinds used to do this but they give the gear and levels away so easy it's like "okay, what now?" I came from WoW and I despise what that game has become, I bet a lot of other ex-wow players feel the same way. However, there are some that expect to get everything on a silver platter since they're so used to it, but either they will ultimately quit and go back to their crappy game or they will change and realize that things shouldn't come for free at no cost or time invested.

Really as an ex-WoW player I'm only having a few problems:
1. Long global cooldown. In 2 months of play (one of which I mostly sat out for real world stuff) I haven't fully adjusted to this yet
2. No damage meter
3. No Deadly Boss mods
These are my issues right now coming from years and years of WoW but they're not problems with the game, they're problems with how WoW wires your brain for raiding content. WoW players might have to take a while to retrain their reflexes for FFXIV and that's something you can learn. The long cooldown seems to be the biggest turn off to converts that I've met, more so than the mandatory story. That and the lack of addon support but I reckon addon support is a gaping rabbit hole SE would rather not go down. -

Just you know i am a WoW Veteran started playing like...one month ago. I have not a single shred of Motivation going back to WoW. Even with the new Patch that came out this Week...i see that WoW Icon...and then this XIV Icon on my Desk. And i totally forget about WoW and start to smile over all the Fun i have here. With a more relaxed/mature Community. -
