Not to be rude but don't post if that all you going to say. Try and come up with a idea to fix this issue. Why is optimal rank better? if you wearing all the gear for your level does it matter if it's level lock then? Also craft are not selling all the item a player need to level up i myself have to buy higher and higher rank item due to this issue and if i do find it, it's overprice HQ or i have to wear diff color which i don't like for my own reason. it making everyone level up there own craft then what the point of even selling item in the ward if everyone can make everything?Quote:

i had a big thread about this when the forums started (and even earlier on fan sites) but there always seems to be a ton of people who give the same 3 excuses:
1) i roleplay
2)i want to look nice not all mismatched
3) i dont want to carry that much gear
so aside from the 3rd part, its a bunch of crap to me. Space in this game from the start is WAY more then FFXI...and in FFXI you had more jobs and tons of gear that was specific to certain skills and spells (haste/WS/elemental..ect sets) This game you cant even swap gear and there is no were close to the same amount of classes. And again you start off with a ton more space. Especially once we get personal spaces to hold likely even more stuff (and possible bag slots?) i just dont see it being an issue. Heck the crafting system changes just emptied out 80% of my bag lol.
Besides who the hell carries around a set of gear for EVERY class they play, normally you dont play on random whims, you tend to semi plan what you do, like "i think il level my X class" and with that bring gathering/crafting gear...maybe a second classes set a max.
The OP listed off a few very good reasons to have it and i think its clear SE is going that way. Its like every other MMO for a reason....it works. -

So people can't sit here and tell me they did not have to rebuy all the low level gear again and again due to this issue lol. so this point is dumb and they can't really say this.
Also did we have a poll that we vote for locking the gear to each level ? or am i going crazy?
Sorry but people on here are a joke they don't come up with a reason why or try and find a way to fix the issue. This is why the forums fail SE are reading this they try and make this game for everyone. Sorry but We most cross a line with something and this is the biggest issue in FFXIV for self accomplishment and self progression and not even about snowflake because at the end who trying to be a snowflake? everyone who wear the high rank gear and show it off in the city so this point is dumb and invalid.
it's about self accomplishment and self progression and making it so the ward have every type of item for each level and so craft can make money right now craft are only making money for some range of gear not all and this make it so more and more players make the same gear and undercut each other.
So at the end the fastest and easy fix for this issue right now is to lock for each level and then come up with a system so RP can display any gear they like for underwear.
Also did we have a poll that we vote for locking the gear to each level ? or am i going crazy? -

Doesn't this tie into their changes to stats & their effectiveness also? Some people wear all kinds of random stuff while fighting in lower levels because they can and it doesn't really hurt them much. If things changed and there were harsher penalties for not being properly geared, that would also increase demand for that gear.
Wouldn't that accompanied with simplifying lower rank recipes, both things they're working on, accomplish the same goal? -

sure lets Class / rank lock everything. Why not. Then, why not on top of that, lets lock you into one job per character with the same monthly fee for additional ones.
Look, I like to wear armor that matches at times, and I still wear my properly leveled combat armor. But you know what. If you think people are TOO STUPID TO FU*KING EQUIP THE RIGHT RANK STUFF then leave. Not everyone knows exactly how the gear works in game which is a shame on SE's part for not being clearer with how the system works. But by calling on them to be lazy about it isn't right either. Want an example here.
Person A has never played sports before but wants to try it. He can get the beginner equipment and practice properly or the pro gear which will more then likely be too bulky and heavy to use properly. However he can STILL PHYSICALLY PUT THE DAMN THING ON! Do you see a shirt or pants in your closet that says "Sorry, your too low level to wear this" ? -

Which then make the craft only make gear for few level range and more and more craft are selling it and undercutting. So pretty much i have to look like a rainbow because you know no one selling the right color i like. if you have so much trouble finding gear your rank, level a craft. Your the one who wants to lock it in place and doesn't care about appearances. I wear my matching gear for when I'm not in combat. when I'm in combat i wear optimal gear.

I would like to disagree with the insane costs on lower ranked gear because of the "time" and "materials" being used. A simple undyed cotton shirt takes two synths from another class that isn't too hard to make. The rest is all weaver.
People are trying to sell them for 75k.
I'm selling mine for 12-17k based on how much I need lol.
It's a r23 synth and it's a r18 item. People are exploiting the prices. It's not all about the materials.
Now about the optimal ranks. Keep the gear we have NOW as an optimal rank. But with the stat changes in the future, it'll probably hurt you more than help. Most new gear that comes out should be required rank. Not always required class though. I like how I can equip a certain item that's DoH for cosmetic purposes and it still has nice defense.
