Wasn't rage bashing. They just hadn't made the post prior to me coming to the Forum after reading the Original post. All I saw was the normal lodestone story nothing about a dev post. So for that as I said I stand corrected, and hell I laughed about it, chill out.

It could take a month probably just to get one piece of gear with 5 pieces of materia. If HQ items turn into higher materia and HQ makes it more difficult to attach materia, this will get crazy (but in a good way). You have to:
1.) Make a HQ item to spiritbond to make Rank IV materia (I can't see this coming from NQ items maybe dungeon items?)
2.) Get all the Rank IV materia you need.
3.) Make ANOTHER HQ item or farm a dungeon item to attach the materia with (which is now harder cuz its HQ i.e. lower attachment chance).
4.) Pray it doesn't break while adding the 2-5 materia.
This process could take a long time for just one item. What worries me is I am primarily a battle class and haven't found any good ways to make gil. I don't know how to pay for all of this tbh.
EDIT: If dungeon items become the source of Rank IV materia, a party system will become even more important. In addition, I can't even get a retainer on my server in Ul'dah so I can't sell anything to make money to pay for this new system. LOL. -

I think you might have read that wrong, there's no forbidden materia. There is a "forbidden" means of attaching multiple materia to a single piece of gear which results in successively higher failure rates.
That being said the rest of your post holds well. That's basically how it's going to happen.
As a battle class you can make heaps of gil just doing leves, even 1*. Plus with the greater availability of gear due to craft simplification I can see prices dropping but people will be selling more gear. -

I love the materia system idea and I am so looking foward to it.
I just want to share with you that if I remember correctly, Yoshi-P mentionned somewhere that rare/ex items would no be able to receive materia, making it so that craftable gears + multiple materia will be more powerful than dropped gears. I will try to look where I read that and come back to edit this post. -
