If you don't know how to play and can't perform adequately, either through mechanics, DPS, HPS etc, you have absolutely no right whatsoever to try to jump into groups that want to succeed, and you definitely don't have the right to tell those people otherwise.

We get it, you don't want to raid. So go ahead and stop acting like raiders using parsers during raids is somehow hurting you while you don't.

You can't teach people if you don't know they're doing something wrong, though. Unless you sit there and watch their entire rotation, you have no way of knowing if someone's rotation is completely off. All you're going to know is that you're not passing a DPS check in a fight. You aren't going to know who, you aren't going to know why, and as such you can't help them even if you want to.

This much I understand, I have no problem teaching people mechanics. The problem is the fact that a parser will always be used in a malicious manner by those who are of the elitist community, no matter how much you slice it. You can sit here and argue that "It's a good resource for gathering information." This much IS true and I have no problem with it doing JUST that. But when someone then takes that information and broadcast it to 7 other people in front of them and calls them out on poor performance THERE is your problem. That is what I am shooting at here and I'm guessing SE is too. It becomes a tool for harassment instead of helping.

if you are bring call out for doing poor DPS it easy as A B C just call GM, parser is there for you to know your DPS, of course it up to you to practice on a dummy to get you DPS up.

So because of that, nobody knows they were doing bad and so they go on to get carried and think they did great or they can't finish the fight because they're bad but think they're good because they have no way of knowing otherwise.



I've been reading all these replies and it seems there's no real reason not to have this other than "because people would make others feel bad with it"


here's a workaround ban anyone who uses it as harassment just as they would ban someone for calling out someone's bad Dps currently.

There is three arguments going on here and people seem to be getting them confused. The first is between personal use parsers and party wide parsers, I believe there is no need for party wide parsers as personal use parsers can be used to improve your DPS just as much as party wide ones, party wide ones only add the additional problem of harassment, singling out someone in a group for abuse.

The second issue is whether mandatory or optional as a feature, there is no legitimate reason for making parsers mandatory, forcing it upon the entire player base just because a small amount of that player base fall within the hardcore end game raiding community of which it becomes an advantage to make use of one. Being optional still allows for those within that community to make use of it if remains optional, being mandatory forces it's use upon everyone else not part of that community and whom may not wish to even be part of it, if anyone thinks people who currently use such parsers restrict their use and the abuse to just the top tier end game raids they are naive.

The third argument is about whether should be SE sanctioned parsers at all and while I fall into the category of I do not mind as long as it is optional and only for personal DPS checking and not party wide ones which I have explained above, there is enough harassment and abuse of parsers currently in game for there to be justified and understandable negativity towards them in general.

There are many resources (videos, text guides, livestreams...etc.) created/run by good players for the express purpose of helping people to improve themselves.

It's almost impossible to tutor muscle memory and habits, so it's largely up to the person themselves to practice on their own if they are not playing their job as well as they could.

Endgame isn't a welfare and I'll never understand how people will continue to defend leeches that knowingly join content clearing groups, expecting a free carry but potentially ruining everyone's effort if the enrage timer was barely missed.

Noone will expect perfect numbers, especially in learning groups but when you join something like a farm and you're obviously struggling to keep up then you're in the wrong place and deserve to get kicked as though you'd mess up on raid mechanics. A parser will only help leading people into the PF groups they are supposed to join at their current skill level, resulting in less harassment and frustration.

Though this mostly applies to PF groups, DF will remain to be a horrible place with and without parsers.

Which brings back the issue of Dps not knowing they are doing bad because there is no way to tell. In which case, they don't try and make changes/improve because they think they're doing fine already.

Plain and simple, some of us that use PCs can use Parsers to self improve, educate ourselves about where we stand and go from there. That's all we need.

I am against in-game parsers being available because, as Yoshi stated, it would promote people going ego-trip-happy over other people based on numbers alone. "Hey, we just kicked that boss in the balls!" "Yeah but you were .0000005% below everyone else in the group so you sucked". People actually do that, so, I agree with yoshi. Never EVER allow a parser to be part of the game itself. Plenty of us have access to our own parsing software to improve where we can without having it shoved in ours or anyone else's faces the results.
