Can you name those resources, those things that people would acquire which otherwise they wouldn't? I'm also wondering about the consequences of those things, including the downside of ease of access, I'm curious about how they could damage the world (or already are damaging, since we already have the aetherytes) and how they could damage you.

Also, staying strictly on topic, can you tell me how much the game would be affected by adding an aetheryte in the places posted in the original post? What exactly would change and how it's a bad thing?

So your opinion holds the absolute truth and my opinion is a sea of lies. You are coming with a generic argument, but we're specifically talking about FFXIV, where anything valuable in game progression comes from instances or tokens.

The entire crux of your argument is that only progression is within a instance or "token" While I could take a long shot and say that some "Token" items would be effected such as allied seals the more broad effect is on relatively inexpensive items but they will be effected.

It may not seem like much to you but a hardcore crafter/gatherer would be able to easilly agree that making items easier to access.

The overall point would be the relative ease of transportation limits the implementation of other systems and in my opinion kills the sense of exploration the world has. Again it's not soly transportation that causes some of these issues but is just another cog in a large mechanism to make the open world itself a useless artifact there for little other than it being a mandate of the series.

You want to stop people from teleporting instead of walking? Add more interesting things in the world. Everything is just scenery with trash mobs for quick EXP or farming for specific drops. There's absolutely not a damn thing in the open world that is worth exploring; I can admire the beauty of the world when I feel like it, but after 100+ times of going through the same valley, the same lake, and the same forest, I don't give two moogle's arse about how pretty a zone looks or what I could find in "exploring" (hint: nothing). When I do daily stuff that requires me to go outside or doing beastmen quests, I am not going to waste 50% of my time hoofing it on foot/mounts just to get from point A to point B and sometimes point C, D, and E; if I have to go through the same areas over and over again, I am going to choose the fastest way possible so I don't waste time.


I don't care about exploring. I already had enough fun exploring when I first started playing this game. I been playing for a year now and "exploring" has been done for me a long time ago. I don't care whether or not more aetheryte shards are added, but I sure as hell will use them if they are ever added in the future.

I wonder if all the people that want less aetheyites are the same people that hop on a chocobo from the porter to their destination, and go get a sandwich while they ride automatically.

I only do that because I am incredibly cheap. And hungry.

Personally, I'm all for convenience.

I too have wished for a shard for the metal working guilds of Limsa or a full crystal for White Brim. Heck, I'd even like a full crystal in the Silver Bazaar (or some sort of aethernet or something out there) so I don't have to ride over every hour to mine my soil.

I can however understand why those who do not want to teleport everywhere are against everyone else teleporting everywhere.

The mentality of wanting to embrace the vastness of the world despite conveniences is not common. Those who feel this way probably spend most of their time with people who do not. As such, even amongst friends, they may find themselves pressured to hurry and teleport. It's easy to say simply teleport or don't teleport as you wish but when you're doing social activities (hunts, treasure maps, quests in a group, etc) you are holding up the group if you don't go by the group's schedule.

As I said, I'm still in favour of convenience.

I'm also in favour of consideration of others. If you want others to feel comfortable not teleporting, make sure they know that that is an option. Don't declare that someone has to be "right here right now" but instead set a time to group up in 5 minutes (or longer) and keep things relaxed. Allow people to play the way they wish.

There will have to be compromises. You also have to be able to play the way you wish. If the styles conflict, that's hard to manage in an amicable way. I don't know what to do about that.

Ideally, I think everyone should be able to teleport to at least all the major cities/towns/outposts/camps/whatever, and those who don't wish to won't be pressured to do so.

Learn the boat routes. :|

I really believe that the Sapphire Avenue Exchange in Ul'dah should have an Aethernet Shard right in the center so the Market Boards are easier to access. I already understand it is easy to get to them, but at the same time, why shouldn't Ul'dah have an Aethernet Shard near their Market Boards? They pride themselves on commerce, so it makes sense from a Lore perspective. if you teleport to Limsa Lominsa, all you have to do is turn around and you're at the Market Boards. Gridania you just have to take the Leatherworker's Aethernet Shard and you're just a stone's throw away. But Ul'dah you have to take the Adventurer's Guild Aethernet Shard and then zone on foot to get there. To me that just doesn't make sense for a country whose motto is for Coin and Country and is full of lazy proprietors :)

I agree but lore wise I suspect the lazy merchants don't walk there.

With money, you can buy runners. Plenty of poor folk who would jump at the job and plenty of merchants to hire them. There's also link pearls and mail when it comes to communicating directly between merchants. Or adventurers, those silly sods who will do anything for 50 gil and a hat.

The grand companies all have ample supplies of mini aetherites they could add to the Aethernet system though. There really is no reason for them not to add one there so that the hired help can be more efficient.

I enjoy going places and looking at the scenery when I feel like looking at the scenery. I enjoy the open world when I'm questing and adventuring. But when I want to go to Whitebrim front for Levequests, I really don't want to take the same trek I've taken a dozen of so times before. The trek doesn't make me want to observe the surroundings and take in the beuty of the world they've created for me. It makes me want to come up with reasons that I can avoid going to Whitebrim.
