Battle Reform: Enmity (07/06/2011)

It doesn't sound too bad, to be honest.

I was worried that we'd get something along the lines of an enmity meter for the whole party (where you can see enmity of every party member) and therefor constant yelling from so called elitists that force you to stay below a XY% enmity threshold.

A four tier icon that only you can see is vague enough for me to feel some excitment while hitting stuff. ;)

Kinda like how you people complained about aggro icon which ironically the complaints died down even before the toggle was added.

People need to stop complaining before implementation.

I want to remove that piece of sh*t of an icon and keep the Emnity changes. I hope I can do it, as I ain't need no aggro meter. Right guys?

Manipulation of variables because you know them = skilled gameplay, also raises the skill ceiling because you don't have to constantly guess enmity.

Guessing whether or not your healer is about to die because your enmity may or may not be enough = distracting, one more thing to juggle in battle, allows players to die because the tank made one bad guess.

Sorry but I prefer to be sure that my tank knows he's doing his job rather than guessing.

If the main purpose of this icon is for boss battles / Dungeons then awesome.
Grind mobs etc = meh i guess.

Yeah right. They are just removing every little sense of uncertainty or surprise this game had. I played FFXI for years and i have never seen anyone boast about how well they can predict enmity levels. Simply because you could never be 100% certain what they were.

Pfffff remove those annoying Hp bars, a good healer should know exactly how much damage every party member got in the fight anyway. They remove all immersion and uncertainty that's for sure

I was wondering if we will get a constant red blinking icon when fighting solo. Maybe it can be turned off

My assumption on how the icon will work is this: Everyone sees the icon as green, except for the one who has hate or is trying to acquire it. I remember in a previous developer post, the enmity icon would be a little bit restricted at first, only showing the person who had the most hate the information.

I am all for the enmity icon. How it will look like? my guess is like the party leader icon or something similar before the fiends name. I appreciate your hard work development team.

I see a lot of responses saying "FFXI was not like this". This is not FFXI, people should get over that game (at least the ones who have moved on), if you can not, then go back and play it for a while and keep checking FFXIV development from time to time.

You may not want to tell people to go play their successful MMORPG if you expect a future for FFXIV.

Not against having some sort of primitive meter, such as the one described, but I really think they are adding too many icons next to the HP bar. If you are fighting several monsters at the same time, and you're trying to tank all of them, I can imagine all the blinking lights on screen would become annoying.

Also curious that there are so many levels of 'enemy taking action against you' seems like it should be "you have hate" or "you dont have hate". Or atleast a better implementation of this scale such as:

No Icon
Green Icon
Orange Icon
Red Icon
<~~enemy is attacking you~~>
Blinking Red

As opposed to what is described:

No Icon
<~~enemy is attacking you~~>
Green Icon
Orange Icon
Red Icon
Blinking Red

Well . . . maybe the way they described is a good way as it still requires DD to try and figure out their enmity while alleviating some of the guess work for the tank. I'll hold off on make any major complaints until I've actually tried, just wanted to voice my concern over the trend of adding a bunch of icons the enemy health bar.
