Indeed they are, and this distinction has nothing to do with my post. You said you don't remember a game that had guild housing unbtainable on day 1. I provided an example of such. That's it.

As far as your last sentence, you're either willingly blind or weren't paying attention to the whine posts about how people ran out of stuff to do in-game that were made prior to 2.1.

With all due respect, this is a "you reap what you sow" outcome. There were posts during beta that asked for a full gil wipe rather than redenomination, as some felt there were still going to be issues with gil quantities carried over once ARR launched (not counting steps taken by the developers to remove gil from the economy, which admitedly I did not see coming). People were against it, forgetting legacy players already had an advantage via leveled classes and items in their inventories.

I remember going into one such thread and telling people the story of the Grim Collector bug as well as explain why a wipe makes sense to balance things out. The replies I got included "I don't care about what happened in the past", despite the famous saying. All because they wanted to keep their stored millions of gil. And I don't doubt that had a part to play in how housing prices are set.

I was on Balmung prior to 2.0, so I do remember how much gil was floating around. I also remember a whole bunch of tricks and exploits for making gil. Some became public knowledge (and were nerfed when they did) before The Calamity, and the lingering questions few dared to ask were how long those tricks had been around and how much gil RMT might have stockpiled because of them.

With this in mind, is it surprising that the groups with the most expensive plots include high population legacy servers? Not one bit.

To answer you claim on fairness, I don't call them fair, but do see why the prices were set they way they were.

3 month timer in a game is fail no matter what people say and price only goes down 50%. if you have to stop playing for a period of time you lose everything also failed.

Promising a fix doesn't really invalidate the really bad and premeditated decision of high prices on Legacy servers. We'll see how the price fixes in 2.15 go, whenever that is and if it isn't pushed back like a lot of things have already been in the past. Forcing FCs to stay subbed for 3 months and dedicate a lot of that time to saving gil instead of doing other activities, even if those activities are now gil fountains, just to enjoy a feature that was hyped for well over a year showing concept art in every single live letter and even going as far as dedicating an entire live letter to it, such a great decision, especially when the people in those FCs were saving since the 1.0 days and were misled about how high the prices would be and also got their gil slashed on ARR's launch too.

Besides now that personal housing is coming there's two things to save up for and these exorbitant prices don't really help, why contribute to my FC's housing fund when I can have a mansion all for myself for way cheaper, that I can also potentially open up to other people? And no, not all FCs have the money for a small house and even if some do and are waiting for cheaper prices, it only highlights the bad design and planning even more because even if they get a small house they can't resell it when they want to upgrade and even when land reselling is implemented, all furniture is lost when it's removed and on top of all that, small houses quite possibly won't be able to do some stuff like airship building.

So, why even settle for a small house at the cheap cheap price of only 25 mil gil? Seriously you'd have to be such a hardcore fan or apologist to do something like that.

There's no blindness, only the knowledge that getting a small house does not make you run out of housing content when you still have to work very hard to expand and get all the rare furniture. Again. Yours is a fallacious argument.

With all due respect, this is nonsensical bull.

Mechanics shouldn't punish everyone on a server due to a few, and gil is not nearly well distributed on balmung or anywhere else. For everyone that has several millions there are several that have under 500k.

People's progression should not be erased just to remove the riches of a few, exactly like prices should not be jacked up just to drain those of a few. If you think even just the majority on Balmung has an overabundance of gil, I'm sorry to burst a bubble, but you're delusive.

While I realize it's not much consolation to players without housing, RareX is opening it's house on the 26th for a holiday party so the community can come together and enjoy the housing experience, details in the thread below:

Asheron's Call - released in ~2000, open-world easily obtainable housing of various sizes. I wasn't even max level, had no idea what I was doing since it was my first mmo and I still got the largest sized house.

SWG - your own FREE space yacht and easily obtainable open-world houses of various sizes as well as player cities. Only certain decorations were expensive.

SWTOR - your own FREE space ship.

Wildstar (coming spring 2014) - your own plot of land starting at level ~14 which you can expand and grow.

Could add Ultima Online and Shadowbane to that list as well for "old school" rpgs (and I have never once seen anyone say you didn't have to work for things in UO). Both had housing that was well within affordable to players who didn't spend a lot of time getting gil/gold/currency, or playing. Space, and whether you kept your house, are up for debate, but not actually getting it.

It is rough. There were a handful of legacy friends that encouraged people to start on Sarg, and I was more than happy to start a fresh character on it to be with them and do things. I haven't been disappointed by that at all...but amassing a ton of money for a legacy server housing when most of an FC's members weren't legacy is pretty challenging. I knew that the Market Boards/economy was going to be very different from non-legacy servers...but I had no inclination that the housing/land prices were going to be implemented differently by SE based on server.

If personal housing land prices are going to be handled similarly, I should probably forgo any donations to FC housing and start saving for that, even if it's a year off. =/

I've decided that in the interest of keeping my sanity and having a happy vacation, I am not going to visit the forums until next year.

I'm tired to my very bones of seeing replies from people on cheap servers who think the prices are fair or fine.

I'm tired of having people come in to the housing threads with the sole intent of trying to take apart our arguments and nitpick points and opinions to death.

I'm sick to my very soul that it has become an impossible thing to have empathy for someone else.

Yeah, it's just a video game, and yeah, I am upset about the housing prices. But I've become exponentially more upset at the human responses on the forums. Instead of looking at all of the housing prices and hearing our situations, people are giddy that it doesn't affect them and are taking pleasure in seeing the misfortune of others.

That is really sad and disheartening.

If you've been part of this thread, and want to keep it going in the hopes that the pricing will be fixed sooner, rather than 'eventually' then keep up the good fight.
