Another reason I know this can be done is it gives tanks time to actually get aggro on everything while the DPS are dealing with the last enemy.
There is something always Cathartic about kicking bad tanks from the party. Today we had a tank from Goblin Server DRK in Stone Vigil (HM) who claimed that, and I quote... that he had to turn off Darkside because "I have needed to save my MP to keep hate"...
Yes. A dark knight claimed they had to keep Darkside off. To save their MP to keep hate. And wonders why he's struggling with threat. We decided to simply kick him and save ourselves the trouble - he wasn't exactly a pleasant fellow.
The hilarious part was when he tried to accuse me of "Pulling before him", when I had made very sure not to. Well, I am not sure if he was just lying, or if he earnestly believed his own words - such things are hard to tell, sadly.
[15:29](DRK) WHM, never put any kind of regen on the tank so close to the end of a fight. That is how you are getting aggro at the beginning of fights
[15:29](Ver'svesh Preah) You can click regen off
[15:29](DRK) I am well aware of that
[15:29](DRK) And I have been the entire dungeon
[15:29](BLM (me)) Using regen is a good manuever from a healer. Part of the issue is the method you use to pull, whcih gives you difficulty with your initial frontload pickup
[15:29](DRK) But when there are people like you who pull before the tank does, it's still a fight to get the aggro back
[15:29](BLM (me)) I'll admit try to avoid it towards the end, but saying that's causing aggro isn't really the case
[15:30](BLM (me)) I haven't pulled before you, even once.
[15:30](BLM (me)) I cast while you're moving in, yes.
[15:30](BLM (me)) but I haven't pulled anything on your behalf.
[15:30](DRK) No, it is not me. I have been tanking and healing with WHM since the damn game came out
[15:30](DRG) :D
[15:30](DRK) Yes, you have. 3 times
[15:31](BLM (me)) so why don't you have Darkside up?
[15:31](DRK) I have needed to save my MP to keep hate
[15:31](BLM (me)) Turning off Darkside doesn't hlep with that; use Blood Price while on the initial pull to get MP back
[15:32](DRK) I know my job. Learn yours
[15:32](DRG) Your funny
[15:32](BLM (me)) I haven't made any mistakes in my DPS rotation, so I'm not quite sure what that means.
*At this point we just decided to kick him*
[15:32](DRG) xD
[15:32](BLM (me)) dirtbag paladin.
[15:32](BLM (me)) er, Dark Knight* sorry I couldn't tell the difference with how little Dark Knight things he did.
[15:33](BLM (me)) this fight doesn't have a threat table. Shall we go ahead and pull and fight?
[15:33](WHM) i guess, never ran it
[15:33](BLM (me)) WHM, do you have any questions or concerns for this encounter?
I'm still think 30 minutes DF lock is not enought. Should increase the more time people do it. It is ridiculos, startin 30, then 45, then 60, etc.
I did trial roulette, Sephirot, 2 new perosn, half of the party leaves, because they're too pro to play with news. As if they never was new eh. Waitng for replaclements, down at frist try. Ooooh, was reallyyyyy baaaad!
In a sephirot Ex group carrying an ilvl215 lancer...not a DRG...a lancer. With no cross class abilities, no soulstone, and only 10 abilities. I don't parse, but I could clearly tell that were were all out dpsing him. And I'm sure the PLD was doing the same.
I had to see it to believe it that this lancer could clear content...but its impossible to do with a group of other pugilists, gladiators, marauders, archers, etc. Sad that this person has been carried through all of the content and people are okay with it.
I think I know who you're talking about since you're on Balmung. If it is who I think it is, they also literally only have LNC leveled and don't have a single cross class either.
I've seen the guy's stream, he plays well but intentionally gimping himself as a personal challenge should only be done in a static group and not with random PuGs in my own opinion.
I try to acknowledge when I am wrong, but I am nowhere near perfect at it either. It is a considerably hard thing to do.
I do admit, I do tend to post in this thread a bit. I don't see anything wrong with a bit of venting, but the main reason why I made my post was because I did not have access to the group at the time. I was hoping my response here would get someone's attention from the group or someone who may have messaged me about it in-game. Since name shaming was involved, I was trying to cover my bases as best I could.
Though, this whole mess has taught me that sometimes the two sides to each story are very different depending who tells what part. I will be making a conscious effort to post less in this particular thread and try harder to avoid a situation like this from happening again.
Tea and a cookie sounds quite lovely, by the way. Now I'm hungry. XD
Last night's EX roulette. Got Antitower.
Good run, it was me, DRK, DRG, and SCH. DRK couldn't seem to hold hate against me, though...haven't had to use so much Quelling Strikes in a while D:
It's okay though because DPS was fantastic. Everything died so quick.
A few days ago we went into Neverreap with DRK, SCH, BLM and I, DRG. Everything was smooth till last boss, when it casts Turbine that knocked us back. The tank and blm thought it was based on Proximity so they moved as far away from the boss, but they got pushed off the cliff xD so it was left to the DRG and SCH to burn down the boss from 60% xD It kinda fun actually to see people got pushed off for the first time in Neverreap XD If you guys that ran with me read this you guys made my day to be a DRG tank for first time xD
yeah,I like reading some of the posts on that group and occassionally try to help out people if they have a question, but most of the times I just roll my eyes at it and ignore it. I'd much prefer a server FB group and while my server does have one, it is definitely not very active, which is quite a shame >:
Doing what you think is best, is the best thing you can do at that point and there isn't really a right or wrong in that I think. Don't think anyone can say you did the wrong thing c:
Totally understand and sadly those kind of people are everywhere. As long as someone communicates there's no problem, but it's when they act like that, that it does.
You are very much welcome c: Sucks that people tend to believe those kind of things so easy and then message about something they don't know anything about, leading to ruin someone's day. I just hope for you and the others that it doesn't get more blown up than needed right now D:
I'm in my third in-progress Brayflox on SCH this morning... Is this place cursed? Am I going to wake up tonight tied up and being carried off by gobbies? What happened to the other healers?
One of the DPS dropped while waiting for a tank and then got queued right back in.
My bf had just gotten his bard's ilvl up for Antitower and a friend and I were gonna help him out. He was still working on his eso gear, but was looking forward to it. We picked up an ast through the df.
First pull and everything looked good. On the second, I noticed the ast wasn't doing anything, maybe threw out a heal or two. Just as the last mob dies, the ast goes "I'm leaving. The bard's weapon is 160 and I'll get through the penalty faster than this". Just before anyone can say anything, they leave. We pick up a really chill whm less than a minute later and we managed to get through the dungeon just fine, albeit a lag spike during Ziggy caused us to wipe.
Needless to say, that ast left a bad taste in our mouths. I've been playing this game for only a little over two months, and I've never come across someone like that before. The only thing I regret is the whm left before I could give them a com. If they're reading this, I hope they know they're awesome. :)
A few days ago I queued for The Aurum Vale as AST. My group was me, a DRG, a NIN and a PLD.
Tank pulls a big frog. For the whole fight he was standing in a poison and didn't dodge a single AoE from the frog. I thought: well it happens.
Then a few pulls later, on another frog, the NIN dodges its AoE to the wrong direction and pulls a group of 3 mobs. These 3 mobs start attacking him and I heal him so they start focusing me. I start spamming Benefic II and I keep getting interrupted so I'm forced to use Lightspeed, spam more Benefic II on me while I run to the tank. I get to him and he does nothing, not even a single flash, just kept attacking the frog and I die, NIN dies, the tank dies and I was able to go back and heal the DRG while he finished those mobs.
After a few more mobs we get to the first boss.
It was really really painful, nobody was eating their fruits at 2 stacks except me. Tank wouldn't dodge a single AoE, DPS and tank kept going to 3-4 stacks. At around 30% I was already at like 200 MP and no CD left. I was forced to let one of my DPS die because I knew that if I tried to keep everyone alive everyone would die. I never prayed so much for a Ewer card like that.
After this nightmare I thought: I'm sure this tank won't dodge 100-Tonze Swing on the 2nd boss. But I was wrong because: he pulls a morbol, stands in the poison, didn't dodge a single AoE, got his by the breath thing which applies 583457934 debuffs (or was it 583457933?). So I pop all cooldowns, spam Benefic II and his HP was dropping much faster than my Benefic II could heal.
We wipe, and I say: "Please, dodge the AoEs and don't stand in poison" (those exact words), his answer: "learn to heal better you moron". Like seriously? You expect me to heal you don't pop cooldowns, get hit by every single and stand in poison? And you even insult me? We kicked him from the group and had to clear the whole dungeon (including the 2nd boss) without a tank. We wiped twice on groups that had too many mobs (since they would just jump on me and interrupt all my spells), in fact I pulled them all to the 2nd boss room, kited them while the NIN and DRG focused on one by one.
We get to the last boss, do 2 attempts without a tank and wipe (our best attempt was 40%) and a tank finally joins the group. We kill the last boss with no problem.
That run almost made me want to stop leveling my AST, it was just that bad. And I didn't expect my text to be this big hehe.
Tanks sure have it miserable, more so than healers i'd say. First time doing Brayflox as tank, we kill first pack, it goes smooth, I'm saying I'll make a bigger pull and actually never pulled more than 2 packs at once so sure, gotta be a first time sometime especially since the party had a BLM. What could possibly go wrong, me being on controller and fresh to tanking, right? I pull the first pack, run to the 2nd and the first pack already lost all aggro from me, I pop cooldowns, notice getting no heals, look at party what's up, healer keeps stoneskinning instead of healing. I think there was like 4 stoneskin casts in a row with one stonek skin 2 after, I almost died to that trash, nonetheless chaos ensues because I run around trying to grab aggro back while party keeps grabbing aggro from me, we clear those two packs without wiping though, the chat went like this so I just didn't say anything and didn't even consider doing bigger pulls because why bother. Once I cap tanks I'm not playing them anymore... is what I'm thinking now but will propably keep going at it since bad apples happen every now and then. But it keeps bothering me because other than that the run went smooth minus some aggro loss that might have been attributed to me being a paladin so no tank stance and being slightly undergeared.

There really isnt any need for big pulls in dungeons below 50 :) You hardly have the proper dps to burn them down so fast that it would matter - and specially as paladin you're better off with only taking one group at a time and rotate through the mobs with the 2 and 3 of your combo to keep hate on all of them (while also using Flash like you've got no other skill at all) - you dont have your tank-stance until 40 and therefor keeping aggro can be a bit of a struggle^^'
Tanking can be a lot of fun! You have to get used to it though and learn how to do it :)
I usually am shield lobbing to the pack, once I'm radius of flash I Flash, position myself for preventing AoE hitting party and then if the pack is at least 3 mobs I keep flashing between 2 hits in combo so like combo initiation, comb hit, flash, combo hit 2, initiation, flash, combo hit, combo hit 2, flash if pack is 2 mobs i just hit initiation and combo hit on first mob, combo hit 2 on 2nd enemy or focus on the mob being burned down. I'm also trying to juggle the combo between mobs that are being chunked down while prioritize the mob that is being burned down. I tried to face flash but I get aggro stolen faster from me that way from what I see. I also understand that provoke works that way that you get party's member highest aggro points +1 so you have to have at least combo initiated for it to not be wasted. I realise all this stuff but when parties like that happen I just fell apart :(
Like I mentioned, I popped defensive cooldowns and wasn't getting heals so I couldn't magically grab the healer's devices and heal myself :( I didn't even bother mentioning to the healer that I wasn't being healed because when I saw the first reply I knew I'd be wasting my time so I just went about business.
You decided not to pull bigger mobs because of what the healer said? If you can keep aggro it's YOUR fault that you can't pull bigger. And don't blame a healer for using ss during battle, they were probably applying it to the dps that were having their face smashed by the packs you couldn't hold. And you'll just cap tanks and never do it again? Please do.
In all fairness, Geula said "Gonna make a big pull" - when you see that as a DPS you shouldn't just go hammer out your DPS as the tank is running.
WHM using stoneskin as much as they were sounded pretty crazy - if the DPS are getting hit, use cure on them heh.
They did say no one died so maybe the healer used a couple of cures idk, lol. But to pass the blame on the healer for small pulls because they as a tank can't keep aggro, just no. Geula even mentioned that they saw a blm, so they should have expected the nukes.
Regardless of what the healer is casting, if you start losing mobs then that's probably over your pull limit, not what the healer can handle. Take responsibility for your bad tanking.
Sorry, reading the post just rubbed me the wrong way.
I'm sure you could also pull big pulls while stepping into a dungeon with no prior experience on that role and giving people a heads up about trying to make a big pull while being undergeared. If I was the healer I'd measure how much the tank would be getting chunked at first before I started going ham. If I was the DPS i'd let the tank grab the pack and see on what I'm building aggro. But I can only speak about this because I have a perspective from those roles.
Sure use your first big pull as a measuring stick for what you can do with a new job, that's ok. But when you can't hold on to hate because you weren't able to aoe aggro enough is still a limit to your ability not the healers problem. Dps may have been able to help you a little by single targeting, but when you pull big you're giving the green light for them to go ham.
really, all 4 of them were in the wrong - but it's Brayflox, so that is expected.
New tank, don't do a big pull to start out.
DPS, tank says I am going to do a big pull, wait til they are done pulling before you DPS.
Healer, don't spam stoneskin in battle when everyone is getting hit, it's slow and mp inefficient
Random DF scene in Lost City HM as tank
*drags mob into the light*
*SMN's ruda knockback mob off the light to the left*
*tries to drag mob back into the light again*
*WHM's Fluid Aura knocks the same mob off the light, this time to the right*
But whyyyyyy???
On the bright side, the other DPS isn't a MCH.
I may be reading his post wrong, but what I got from Geula is he lost aggro somewhere between his shield lob to get the first pack, and getting in range to shield lob the second, before he really had a chance to establish hate, meaning the dps went ham before he could even finish pulling the two groups of mobs.
I almost miss the days when light farming was a thing, back then even in df it was the norm to just dps down Garuda in HM, ignore the feathers/sisters and pull her to the south after she casts her ultimate. Alas, that strategy seems to be lost to the ages. I don't mind so much people dpsing the adds when I get Garuda HM in trial roulette (even though I feel it's not time efficient), but please, stop trying to tank her in the middle. I'm tired of watching the entire party getting knocked around like rag dolls when the tornadoes come out.
I don't think you know what encounter is being talked about here so let me show you with a video. 1st mentioned pack is as video is linked, 2nd pack is at 5:33.

That would be the case, yes.
So I've been leveling my Puglist/future Monk recently, only about 20-25 so far. I've never really played positional classes before (unless you count Dragoon after 56).
I get thrown into Satasha for my leveling roulette. The tank and other DPS were discussing how boring it was to play certain classes at that early level, and that they both happened to main Monk as well. I brought up the fact that I was unsure if I was actually hitting monsters from the flank, even if it seemed that way on my screen. The tank proceeded to go 'OH YOU GONNA LEARN TODAY, NEWBIE MONK. THE SAME WAY I DID.'
He proceeded to spin all the mobs in circles. At the final boss, he also went 'OH JUST IN CASE YOU WERE THINKING ABOUT DOING THIS, YOU AIN'T GETTING OFF THAT EASY' and did tank LB immediately.
It was pretty funny though, and I appreciate the tough lesson, ha.
I've been farming Midas normal for weekly drops with friends most of the night. Earlier we had a full premade, but by now it's dwindled to 3. I'm going SCH and two friends are going WAR and MNK. We land in A6 with an Astrologian that camps Noct stance despite me being a better-geared Scholar. I pretty much sort of sighed inwardly and resolved not to say anything... until she overwrote a crit Deployment Tactics Adlo with her shitty Aspected Helios. I asked her why the hell she'd overwrite it and she said she forgot because she's used to having a WHM paired with her. I told her she should be in Diurnal when she's paired with a Scholar anyway, at which point she replied that she needed the heal boost because of her item level. That makes absolutely no sense to me. I'm i214 SCH so I shield for more than she does anyway, making hers not only pointless, but actively sabotaging mine. -.-
She also didn't believe us when we said Brawler can be solo tanked by using cooldowns correctly unless a PLD MT's it. Never mind that the boss does solely magic damage and can do frequent tank busters, so both DRK and WAR are fine to tank it. >_>
I make Eos tank them. Fey Illumination > Rouse > Whispering Dawn and that tank is gonna have to fight her hard to get them. xD
^I only do A8 once for the midan gear now. Can just get crafted gear with costs of 100-300k each piece mat costs + crafter tip (on my server)
Not really a '' horror '' story, but more of an annoyance. What's up with people that have this complete and utter nonchalant attitude?
I was tanking in the duty finder, and we had a summoner in the party using his tanking pet.
I ask him if he could please change his pet, emphasis on the '' please '' part, I am being very nice. Not freaking out or anything ridicilous.
Not only that, but while I am typing it for the second time, I notice that he is running ahead in front of me and pulling himself. So he has his tank pet out, and is pulling.
I ask for the third time nicely, not in an angry tone at all. If he could please change pet.
And he finally answers '' why ''.
I tell him that he has his tank pet out. He says '' Yes ''................
I ask, again... Nicely... Because you never know, maybe he genuinly didn't know why having it out is wrong.
And I tell him that I am mainly telling him, because it won't work later on, it's no big deal. Just making sure that he knows so that he doesn't get yelled at in the future.
He asks '' why ''....... again. Just that one word...
And I say '' it's irritating for the tank, and you're a dps. You need to have your dps pet out ''.
He responds with '' k '', just that one letter.....
He does NOT change his pet......
I just left....
I don't get it, what the hell is up with some people?
I feel shitty for leaving the other people. But seriously. I was already tired and in a rather bad mood. And I genuinly went out of my way to help the guy. And all I get back is some nonchalant asshole attitude back and I feel as if I am just talking to a brick wall that ain't listening. He kept pulling too even tho I told him to stop it.
A rather odd question.
Has anyone ever had a tank in Fractal attempt to pull EVERYTHING after the first boss all the way to the second boss? Because that's what just happened to me, and now I'm wondering if such a pull is actually possible... I popped all of my heal CDs and keeping the tank up just seemed impossible after all the AoEs came out and started shredding the rest of us. I talked to a couple FC mates about it afterwards, and one said he did it before, but I'm pretty sure he was BSing. At the least, it would have required the tank to at least tell us he was gonna do that first. And not waste all the CDs while running. Along with bringing the shabati to the door of the 2nd boss after the failed attempt thinking we could skip Manticore afterwards. >_>
(I don't mind people trying for speed runs as I fancy myself a rather offensive healer to help that along, but not when it's pretty clear the tank had never tried it before and was only doing it because one of his peers pressured him into trying it/doesn't know exactly what's needed to even have a chance at succeeding. Like, he popped all the CDs -while- running and didn't use Abyssal Drain after the fact. We could have probably had a sub-17 minute run of Fractal, but that botched pull set us back like 5 minutes.
I mean, pulling to the middle is a pretty regular thing for me to see, but that was really the first time I saw a tank attempt to pull absolutely everything all the way over to the second boss...)
