Tales from Duty Finder: Some make you laugh, some make you cry. Let's vent. 2.0

To the 3 tanks that abandoned us in CF earlier today the second they loaded in: you suck and may your shoes be ever filled with Legos.

To the 4th tank that loaded into CF with us and was overjoyed to not get CT: you're amazing and may your runs be ever filled with super sonic speed.

Was healing an expert roulette, ran into a tank that was single pulling. No one really complained after the first boss the tank asked the DPS why they were not using cooldowns. They simply replied, "If you want to do the bare min and single pull, we will do the bare min and just do our basic combo." Not going I laughed and cried at that response cause while funny, I knew I was in for a very long run.

Ehehe, Aglaia in Alliance Roulette... I tasted the floor many, many times... especially at the progressive AoE circles on Nald'Thal. We wiped thrice and cycled through many leavers and joiners at them because of people trolling/not understanding the Balance mechanic.

In Aurum Vale as healer.

We had a sprout tank who was quite undergeared with some pieces about 5 levels below cap, some more than 10 levels out, accessories level 1. They were still learning how to pull and draw aggro so they were choppy. Nothing unmanagable though, just challenging. They're a sprout whose learning the ropes so all good, I don't have a problem there.

In the first boss room we have a mentor DPS who decides not to eat their fruit and ends up dying near the end of the battle and lashes out about heals. The other DPS points out that it was their own fault for not eating fruit and I point out that they need to eat fruit at 2 stacks and that I had to focus on our sprout tank first.

They couldn't let it go, the other DPS repeats about fruit again and they shade back that they're a mentor, like, seriously? And people wonder why folk call it the Burger King Crown.

What is it with gobby mentors? I don't give a damn if you're a mentor, if you can't be arsed with the absolute minimum mechanics in a dungeon then I'm not going to hard carry you through there, especially when we have a sprout who need a little extra help.

Should have kicked him from the party. People like that don't shouldn't be allowed to get away with being aggressively stupid, and they sure as heck don't deserve your effort of clearing the dungeon for them.

I'm curious how people know if someone is a mentor or sprout? I must have the option turned off cause I never see it.

Yesterday ran my Expert roulette as a BLM. Got thrown into Alzadaal.

The WAR threw a fit because I LB'ed 2nd to last wall pull. I just gave them a '?' in party chat & exited with 2 comms once the duty ends.

Cute WAR :p

So doing Endsinger and we have this 4head of a healer who thinks this is going to be easy but ends up causing a wipe. The fight starts and he immediately gets a stack by standing in front of her as she lasers the front and then gets a 2nd stack as soon as one of those planet explodes. One healer goes down and the guy with the stacks thinks it's a good idea and stands next to the tank as a TB happens and gets nuked. Wiped in like 4 minutes. What a moron.

PS. I was that moron.

If you don't like when it gets laggy on Excalibur when hunting S ranks, maybe don't come and contribute to it. :p :rolleyes:

5678 roulette: Antitower as a WAR.

Thanks to the single targeting melee dpses & (almost) pure healer WHM, I got to learn two new things from this dungeon:

1. Second boss will summon more than 3 shards if you let them repeat mechanics.
2. Last boss will transform both tank and healer into dolls on second Dollhouse phase.

Literally the only other AoE that I saw coming out was WHM's Holy that they cast once in a blue moon at like 15y away from the pull, I had to actually drag the mobs closer... only for them to scoot away to 'safety'. Okay, whatever.

The doll died in the mid of third Dollhouse cast. Was both curious and not curious what the third dollhouse will do, considering the DRG was entirely ignorant to mechanics by only attacking the main boss (Frog, Spriggan, and Doll all the same). Roughly a 21-22 minutes long run. Peace.

What DC are you on? *squints; looks up* Aether? Yeah... 90% of my ranting on the weekly rant threads on the subreddit came from being on that DC...

I have better runs on Crystal. I don't get it.

Crystal is usually pretty chill when it comes to DF content. It's either friendly conversations and banter or total silence, but I haven't had many bad experiences on the old server cluster before the change or Crystal in general after it. The number of truly awful experiences I've had through the years could probably be counted on one hand, and not even a full hand at that. I've seen my fair share of salt being thrown around after wipes, sure, and some I've seen plenty who can come across as abrasive. But I don't blame that on the community. It's an internet thing, and a people thing. Either way, the good has outweighed the bad so far, and I've been around a while.

I mean.. I don't keep a secret that I wrote more of my less than ideal runs in this thread. Truth is, for every bad runs I had, I got like 7-10 average/good/excellent runs in return. Let's just say that writing the former are more entertaining and aligns with the thread's purpose: to vent, unless the latter ones are really -really- memorable in some way.

I've never used DF solo in other DC, I probably should give that a try someday.

Its about the same. Most of my runs on my DC are as Vahlnir says are chill. That said it isn't like I haven't had crappy runs on Crystal. For instance. I dunno if I wrote in here for this one but on my alt now male Viera GNB I had a WoD run where our 2 healers were new to the raid and some jack of a dps complained after every single wipe. Angry Mango I think was twice, Cerberus was once... because of COURSE we were C and OF COURSE no one did chains correctly, and I think we cleared Cloud but w/e. The guy was harassing them in alliance chat and backed up by another person and I'm like: fam, stfu. They're NEW and part of the reason why we wiped had NOTHING TO DO WITH THEM. Either make your complaints cordial or say nothing at all.

I reported him. Obviously.

I don't believe it was on Crystal cause I've moved this character to like 3 difference servers at this point but I had a crappy tank in Malikah's Well who used all his mits on the first wall to wall pull had nothing on the second and kept taking vuln stacks up the wazoo.

It was literally in my best interest on the final boss to let him die and res him it got that bad since he didn't mit A N Y T H I N G.

Aether can't claim the misery that was doing 5 runs of Orbonne back to back to back to back to back (through roulette mind you) where my alliance and the other had to carry the final one towards the end of Shb's expansion cycle though. That was all Crystal.

That was my initial assumption too when DC travel became live. Funnily enough while here you mentioned about 'squinting at Aether DC', that very same day when DC travel became live my first roulette paired me with a random from Balmung who wrote "Finally, a functioning Duty Finder folks." in alliance chat. I'm not entirely sure what was the context or meaning behind that comment, but it was quite entertaining talking about that w/ my friends in our little linkshell, theorizing the whys.

Ironically enough, just before I got into that hellish run I was joking with my tank friend in the linkshell, telling them "There are only 2 ways to combat Vuln Stacks: (1) Cry a curse for every GCD heals you spend to keep your tank alive, or (2) 'Cleanse' the stacks.". Not once I ever thought my own joke bite me back that fast. Karma's a b!tch lmao.

The tank wrote "Nice healing" at the end of it but at that time Idk if I should feel happy or... whatever... This happened around the time between 5.3 to 5.4 IIRC.

Eh... well to go into more detail... I think he died more than once but honestly, when I literally popped EVERYTHING and you're in Scaevan Gear, not even at the level cap to get better gear, and you aren't mitigating, there's only so much I can do without Noct Sect on (I was Diurnal when we still had it) and/or Neutral Sect. I burned EVERYTHING. Even popped Lightspeed to keep that mofo up and still he plopped.

I didn't let him get to 8 vuln stacks. I saw the boss charging up TB knew he wasn't going to mit it cause he didn't do it for the entire dungeon, and he took 7 vuln stacks by not trying to stand out of the avoidable triangle I'm sorry PYRAMIDS and circles and I said, CI may save you, but fk it you're dying, I'm rezzing and your vuln stacks are being reset because I'm not dealing with your crap any longer. Second and 1/3 times I let someone die because I wasn't dealing with their BS.

Oh and I died on the second boss I think it was? Trying to save someone and we had 2 RDMs... GUESS WHO DIDN'T VERRAISE!

Leveling roulette as DNC earlier today put me in Haukke Manor. No big deal, except for not having a grand portion of my kit. Turns out this run was a little different from normal. I had with me two sprouts and a vet who apparently had no sense of direction. Since I seemed to be the only one who knew where to go, I decided to do something unusual and apply the Danger Dorito to myself. Much gentle guiding and wordless hopping (I was playing on PS5 and didn't have my keyboard hooked up) and we make it through Haukke Manor pretty much without a hitch (although as seems to happen a lot, we forgot to grab the first colored key). The cherry on top? At the end of it, I made it out with three comms for my guidance! May or may not have helped that I couldn't say anything lol.

I tend to mark myself and state "Stand where I stand and you can't go wrong" if I have a lot of newbies for something and not in the mood to explain a lot of the finer mechanics to something. They generally get the "Why" of something when they see it in action. Why am I standing here? *Thing happens* Oh...I see.

After 4 months of doing Dead Ends, and seeing the birb drop maybe 5 times between normal groups and a few trusts, and losing said birb to randos who barely participate in the duty, I finally got my blue birb minion.

Now to set my sights on little snek from Hyperboria, after a minor break from grinding minions.

Got E11 on roulette. A bunch of us forgot which strike was the knockback, so there was a near wipe early on and a few of us chimed in about how we haven't done the normal mode or been stuck in Pandaemonium for months. :D We managed to recover. :rolleyes:

I feel I must apologize to the poor DRG I was chasing around the map in CC. My plan was to distract the enemy team. Then I saw you were nearly down, so I decided to give chase. I guess I had no chill. lol I will say that you gave me one heck of a run though. It was a pretty hectic 30 seconds or so. I never actually did manage to get you. In my defense though, your LB is lethal. Someone had to keep you away from my team. :p

In Cutters Cry on AST. This one irritated me.

We have a sprout Lv 38 PLD in Lv 23 to 35 main slot gear (2 pieces were 35 IIRC) and Lv1 accessories, iffy mitigation but seemed like he was at least trying. We also have sprout DPS.

The run was, shall we say, challenging. Mashing heals like crazy and burning emergency heals during each pull. After he dies twice, I point out that he should probably tone his pulls down because he isn't geared to go hard in here; said in the most buttered up way possible complete with the "not bitching, just giving a tip, its been a rough dungeon", kid gloves on, please don't take it badly, etc.

Well, he took it really badly. First that it doesn't matter because we're progressing (hmmm sure but I don't want carpal tunnel), then claiming that its the best gear you can get at that level (it was far from it), then getting smart about exactly what gear is available for him at 38.

We continue... As we go into Chimera he claims to be an Ultimate raider on another char (always are), and continues to give it lip. Sprouts take AOE's, he's taking a lot of damage and I end up taking mechanics in the process. I end up dying near the end and he starts gobbing off again so I tell him to solo it if he's so hot. He dies fast, sprout finishes it off.

Then he starts accusing me of deliberately trying to wipe the group and files a report. No you utter dolt, I was trying to heal an undergeared tank and sprout DPS while said tank is having a tantrum in the chat like a bad gamer stereotype.

And people wonder why players are reluctant to say anything or give advice.

A few of my fc mates, while we were getting ready to do the latest trial, cried out in voice chat that I just jinxed them all. Trial pops, I'm on pld, fc mates are on sch and sam. We have no idea of the mechanics in the fight because apparently someone doesn't want to do the smart thing and look up any info on the fight that we should majorly know about.

Like what cleaves, what raidwides you really need to mitigate, that sort of thing. No, instead we end up going in blind.

I Venn-diagram the sam on accident, and our sch manages to get themselves killed 4 times. Overall both of them die several times each, while I only manage to scrape a couple vuln stacks the entire fight.

I prefer going in blind rather than going in with knowledge of the mechanics. I think the ONLY time one should do research before hand is if they are joining some farming group.

CRAFTING MENTOR HEALER TELLS EVERYONE TO HELP SOAK THE METEORS???! After... they just died to soaking the meteors...

The amount of time I need to tell sprouts & veteran players alike in that trial to -only- let tank soak the meteor alone is baffling. Even then sometimes there are still *good willed* dps that attempts to assist in the endeavor... only to learn (or not) it the hard way...

For some reason those tower marker registers as "soak the damage together!!"-marker to a good number of players.

A similar problem happens in dun scaith at the end. Some good natured souls go to the middle tower and get crushed, while the tank walks it off. :p
Something tells me that even flashing the tank emblem over these wouldn't help much. :rolleyes:

they should add the red tank stack markers to them in that case.

Maybe teaching them early on will get them to pay attention.[I miss OG untelegraphed Aurum Vale]

Sprouts take AOE's, he's taking a lot of damage and I end up taking mechanics in the process. I end up dying near the end and he starts gobbing off again so I tell him to solo it if he's so hot. He dies fast, sprout finishes it off.

Then he starts accusing me of deliberately trying to wipe the group and files a report. No you utter dolt, I was trying to heal an undergeared tank and sprout DPS while said tank is having a tantrum in the chat like a bad gamer stereotype.

And people wonder why players are reluctant to say anything or give advice.

First, I'd like to state I came from playing a healer in WoW for years.. since Burning Crusade (Vanilla was spent playing a Hunter.. and I was tired of fighting for my spot in groups) all the way through the last expansion... so naturally, I came into this game saying, "yeah, I'll be a healer".

Lol, that's cute, that I thought it was going to be that easy.

So yeah, I was a steamy, stinky, carpal tunnel having mess, trying to keep the tank topped off.. because in WoW, if you don't do that, you're a baddie. I also did not understand that part of my job was to DPS, because again, in WoW, unless you're a Disc priest, that makes you a baddie.

THANK GOD for the seasoned player (he was the tank!) that took the time to tell me, like you did with that tank, how I can help myself help the group. I was so grateful. I don't know why anyone would get tuchus touchy (it's my nice way of saying butthurt) about someone offering assistance! I'm open to ALL the helps anyone out there ever wanna give me.

Remember, a healer's job isn't to keep everyone topped up, it's to keep everyone alive. Learning the difference is what makes a good healer into a great healer.

True! I do pretty well, but it's all still a learning experience and I'm always happy to get useful criticism and advice.
