It does, you can't be that ignorant to see some people don't even care about the earrings (some have admitted as much) they are just in it for the lols/trolling. Just like your post. Come on this is the internet.

But whatever. It was really a response to the accusing of one side of being toxic, like the other side were saints. I don't even have them.

"why so serious?" could be said about anything even IRL. It's easy to brush things off when you don't care about them.

I don't think ANYONE wants past rewards handed out for free. That diminishes the effort put forth to get them in the first place, which is what I think riled up a lot of the 1.0 veterans.

I am looking forward to doing the fight and earning those earrings just as past players did. It might not be 100% exactly like the original but there are probably technical reasons that prevent this.

I'm also looking forward to earning past PVP rewards, if they are ever made available again, but a lot needs to be changed with the system's present incarnation, as we all know.

Let's not be so quick to judge until the actual event has happened.

Former raid tiers is a moot comparison, as they never said they were going away like the 1.2x content. You're doing what you're accusing other people of doing, comparing the ravens to ultimate which of course isn't the same either since right now they are not indicated to be removed from the game.

I'm not defending it nor am I assigning guilt, as yes both sides are equally guilty and I was just addressing 1 specific post. You people will have the testimony of their meaning as you have completed or attempted the encounter and we haven't. So we have no association. Whether they could have approached this differently is frankly outside of anyone's decision. Granted they could have celebrated it with Nael minion. This probably would have been best, but it's judgement I will withhold until the event has passed, and probably 1 year later when they add, or omit this reward from Mogstation. Again, they made a conscious decision to do this, so they've done it for a reason and they probably aren't going to have it as a simple FATE. At this point most comments are just being overly presumptuous, especially without having thought what the event may/may not have included

There's people here I generally sympathise with, and there's some people that are just making a complaint for the sake of it (without any meaning, relevancy, or anything behind it), and these I have no sympathy for. If you personally have completed the fight then congratulations to you and any peers that have, you will have the association, we don't, until we see how good, or disappointing the event is. Do I see them as pixels, obviously, because that's my current association with them.

I did realise shortly thereafter my latter comment was a tad hypocritical when I shunned people for doing this but ey'oh.

Just a reminder: this is not a game that preserves the sanctity of events. I can walk into Titan EX right now on a 70 and solo him as many times as I want to get his mount. The only reason 1.0 events were "preserved" was because the game wasn't viable and couldn't continue as it was.

And I find it highly entertaining that this is a fight that's so well beloved that I never heard of it short of offhand mentions in lore discussions or lists of "things I did in 1.0" before Rising 2018 was announced, yet now that this has come up it's become the sacred, holy grail fight of 1.0.

I wouldn't call it ignorance so much as I realized long ago that people will complain about anything and everything and it seems to be especially horrible in online games. Especially on time exclusive items within the game. I acknowledge that people can care about something. What you're misunderstanding is that I cannot share that same care for the reasons I've posted above (it's virtual, I cannot own it, it is not tangible, it has no value outside of this game and its community). I can equally think placing such items on a pedestal is illogical to me (and obviously, those that do disagree with me). It's not trolling, though it's probably coming off as such.

Yeah, it's hard to care about something when you no somewhere in the future, they simply won't exist for anyone anymore. Hence my whole statement is boiled down to "These aren't real, so why are you so up in arms over them? Aren't the memories of how you obtained them more important than the item itself?"

Honestly? The more level headed people were more just expressing disappointment which is ok to me. That borders more on feedback than complaining to me. Complaining would be the "you don't deserve it" thing or some kind of ultimatum. OP was pretty reasonable I thought. It wasn't even about the earring glamour, most of them as far as I can tell don't even care about the glamour they just wanted it to be a different item. Obviously the entire thing sounds kind of petty from the outside looking in, but different people care about different things. Some of the stuff was silly, like comparing it to a military medal, that was out there.

People keep mementos IRL as well for the same reason. Like a wedding ring, or some kind of gift that was given to them by someone else that could even be "digital" and others don't even care about stuff like that.

Honestly, I think we should just cancel the reward system for The Rising at this point because of what's going on. No one is coming together as a community (as far as this side of the forum goes anyways) over the event because so many people would rather cling to an item that's five years old and determine who's self-worthy enough to have it and who doesn't deserve it instead of the memories behind said item and sharing what they know about the fight. The event is suppose to be about the history of said game, so maybe we should just do away with the carrot-on-the-stick if people are this easily offended and made to feel invalidated about something that literally no one else can go back and say they did without the proper achievement evidence for it.

I wonder if the JP side of the forums argues this much over exclusives and whether or not one side of the community shouldn't have them over the other side as much as we do.

It's a cultural thing. Sadly we can all agree to disagree here over basically everything. Its what happens with a game that is trying to encompass so much

I wanna preface this reply that I am aware you don't share this mentality, but I am adding this for the sake of clarity.

But the whole reason a memento is a memento is to remember that moment/event. It holds a value to you, individually. Being up in arms "collectively" because you "individually" feel its taking away value to your memory is... just silly.

By a similar contrast you can have a coin that is worth something because it was given to you by someone special and I can have a coin with the same monetary value and I freely spend it. Does that take away from your memory?

I understand your reasoning and I can see the perspective. Still doesn't take away that people are using emotions as a "reason" rather than realizing that that item is worth more to you who have it/earned it when it was relevant than it is now for those who get it with this event, and it doesn't need a public distinction/difference for it to make your memory matter.
