Make FFXIV more like FFXI and less like WoW!

And to address this - Simply because you don't like a game doesn't mean that everything about it is bad. Everyone has different play styles and preferences, so this is pretty much a given that not everyone will enjoy what XI had to offer.

However, I would go so far as to say that all games have redeeming qualities - some things they do really well, some things are bad. The point that I have been trying to make is that there are plenty of things within XI that they could borrow from and adapt to make XIV feel more full and fleshed out as a game.

So yeah, a little objectivity would go a long way. Continue ignoring me as planned :)

Why do you have such a strong opinion about WoW when you've never played it? You just described elements that make WoW seem closer to FFXI than FFXIV. It's quite funny to see a poster assert a claim and disprove themselves in the same post.

I'm pretty sure there are people have the same opinion for XIV out of their 5 million accounts registered I'm sure there been good chuck of people that have thought XIV sucks or is boring and have quit because of it. Isn't it something less then 1 million of the 5 million are actually active paying subs?

lol, yeah, the jump is pretty useless D: You CAN jump while running, but you still can't clear actual hurdles ;) And the name thing reminds me of a couple of the new dances in XIV. I believe both the Gold and Thav dances keep your name in a single spot while your character is prancing about.

Hey..I agree with your post, good points! I am going to start saying this from now haha...its true though, why DONT they go play WoW if they want stuff from WoW...since apparently wanting a couple good things from XI means we want the entire XI game and to go play it as a solution lol.

Yea I said it in another thread that people won't be happy until they can get every part of this game changed into a non FF game. Its pretty sad.

I'll try to put aside my bias for a second and prompt some discussion: the things you liked about FFXI, how would you incorporate them into the game without drastically altering this game's design philosophy or content model? The biggest reason I'm against most XI-like suggestions are because they're usually advocating forced grouping or the removal of certain convenience features, which I think would do this game more harm than good. What kind of suggestions would you give that might actually fit into the framework of Final Fantasy XIV?

But how can we turn this idea into something that actually translates well into FFXIV and the fact is we ALMOST kind of have it.

Diadem and PoTD kind of have this idea. Not so much the idea of "danger" but the idea of wasting time. Lets look at Diadem for example. Aggroing (spelling?) is a pain in the ass not because they are hard to beat but because it wastes time. Diadem, if it had been a piece of content where you have to travel from A-B on foot to farm content for tomes, gear etc but these trash mobs slow you down. It's how i see the idea of "danger" in FFXIV.

I'm just calling, or in this case tagging, a spade as a spade. Calling it immaturity and non-civil because you either take offense or just don't like those words, well that's just the beginnings of a strawman argument. If it bothers you that bad that someone says that a game sucks (a fair descriptor word) especially when they have had first hand experience of it, or calls those that have a fanatical fervor to defend such a game a zealot.. Well..

Ever heard of a thing called cognitive dissonance? If not, let me break it down for you. It's basically the mental stress or discomfort experienced by an individual who holds two or more contradictory beliefs, ideas, or values at the same time; performs an action that is contradictory to one or more beliefs, ideas, or values; or is confronted by new information that conflicts with existing beliefs, ideas, or values. Let's focus on that last bit: "confronted by new information that conflicts with existing beliefs, ideas, or values."

The very fact that when presented with firm, first hand accounts that dispute your rose-tinted view of a game that you have idolized and, further more, causes you to lash out over 'tags' to a thread where that game is being discussed is quite telling. Calling me out directly, by saying you can't take anything I say seriously, because of said tags is analogous to you putting your fingers in your ears and humming a tune.

As for our perceptions, the title of this very thread is quite clear: Make FFXIV more like FFXI and less like WoW. If turning FFXIV into a pseudo-sequel isn't what those of you agreeing aren't earnestly angling for, what is the very point of this thread?

No. Lets face it, most people loose their cool if you wipe on a boss in Weeping City, WoD or w/e imagine the rage of having to run by foot half way round the world after a wipe.

First off, your comparison is apples to oranges. The FFXI quest allowed you to use a TAXI mount. Had to start in a city, limited time use, ect. Four real life hours to unlock that. The companion MOUNT of FFXIV, (which can be used anywhere and for an unlimited amount of time) takes about one, maybe two hours to get all the required seals. FATEs are completely unnecessary. You just have to do grand company levequests and should have more than enough by that point saved up.

To put it into perspective, the Chocobo Porters in this game has two options. One: an on the rails, no control, go from point A to point B, if you have point B unlocked. The other: the exact same function FFXI had. (Unlocked just by reaching level 10) A temporary mount that costs a nominal amount of gil and lasts for a limited amount of time. If you dismount, you can't remount. You get those services right out of the box. You don't have to trek to a central hub city through ridiculously high level mobs, that can and will kill you multiple times, be level 20 (yes it's a requirement to even start the quest, I looked it up), and waste 4 hours (coming back each hour doing that same arduous journey, or sitting there wasting time) just for basic travel.

Yes, people would RAGE if that was the case here. Thank the twelve it isn't.

Yes, everyone does have different playstyles and preferences, I agree. When a game's 'redeeming qualities' are so over shadowed by all the negatives, then like any critic of consumed media you give it a score, and in my case: I feel that the game sucked on most, if not all levels, and would not recommend any of it be integrated into this one.
