Thanks lukey, this seems to an interesting thread!
To add to my previous post, sacrificing 25 Crit for 15 Det seems to be a good sacrifice. Especially since i prefer Det over Crit. With Animus my stats with food (HQ Buttons) would be the following:
ACC 485 ( this should be enough for T7 not sure about T8 however )
Crit 424
Det 350
SkS 407
If T8 should require more ACC then i could change the Allagan mask to Melee for the extra 15 ACC but of course lose the DET from Allagan to result in
ACC 500 ( this should be enough for T8 however will likely need more for T9 - possibly another 5-10 ACC?)
Crit 430
Det 335
SkS 407
Of course drops from t6 like the Mask, belt and ring would ease the pain on ACC much more but thats all dependant on RNG which i dont like relying on. Especially considering we got aiming 2 weeks in a row >.>
Anyone know if 485 is enough for T6-8? and what MNK requires for T-9? I seen 507 ACC floating about but nothing concrete.
Thanks in advance!
For T7 and 8 it's around 470 so 485 should be more than enough for both of those turns. For T9 i hear it's like 510 from frontal attacks (monks never want to be in the front anyway) and 493-495 from the other directions.
I became concerned about how I played monk while I was farming leviathan yesterday with my static. I push on average 220 (233 DPS at my best) using the Allagan weapon and the dragoon in my static reaches 250 easily (with the animus).
I went to the good old striking dummy and got my rotations parsed by my dragoon friend (ps4 player), and on my best attempt I hit 391 DPS.
What should I be reaching? My gear set @ 479 accuracy currently consists of:
Allagan Baghnahks
High Allagan Mask of Striking
Weathered Gloam body
Allagan Gauntlets
Weathered belt
Weathered Legs
Weathered boots
Allagan maiming choker
Allagan earrings of maiming
Heros Bracelet
Allagan ring of maiming
Allagan ring of striking
You should definitely be over 391 DPS with ilvl95, regardless of gear/stat weightings. Describe your rotation/skill priority.
Are you hitting all the correct positionals? You'll lose 20-30% of the move if you don't.
Are you getting Demolish uptime up high?
Are you using the correct rotation?
Are you hitting your off-gcd abilities as soon as possible?
This was 1 of 2 attempts. Ill recall exactly what I did and any errors I made the best I can
Opener --> Shoulder tackle>PB>demolish>B4B>Snap>failed IR>Snap>IR>DK>(failed Twin snakes)>Bootshine>Twin snakes>demolish>ToD>DK>(HF and Steel peak were weaved somewhere here) >True>snap>Boot>Twin>Snap etc
I refresh demolish if at 4 seconds or less and ToD when I can at 3. If B4B or IR is coming back up soon I try to wait until they come back to apply, in some cases ToD had like 12 seconds left and B4B was running out so I refreshed it while buffed, same with demolish albeit not at 12 seconds. I am getting all my positionals.
I have issues getting 5 hits on PB opener consistently especially when trying to weave on oGCD, if I mash my oGCDs i get delay on my global cooldown so I try to time pressing the button a few times halfway on the GCD so as not to delay my next move. Regarding oGCDs such as HF and Steel Peak, I use them whenever its up, perhaps if B4B and IR is coming back soon I should wait a bit before using it.
What DPS should I be reaching on my current gear set? I've been told just by playing on controller I will have lower DPS compared to keyboard/mouse regardless.
Bit more background info, my friend uses app to parse.
If you can't get 5 hits on PB you may not be hitting your abilities quickly enough, even with as low as 350 skill speed you should have no problems getting 5 attacks off.
Do you use macros for your on-gcd abilities? Macros eliminate the ability to queue abilities so you may be introducing slight delays to all your attacks.
Twin snakes needs to be on quicker than that, I also tend not to use any of my offence buffs until GL is stacked to 3
Further to that, I don't know if other people use PB like that ^ but I use it once I have had my GL @3 and I'm fully buffed to Maximize the amount of damage I do, as with PB on and bootshine's 100% crit chance from behind it can be brutal if hammered (with a cheeky Snap to keep GL up)
It's safer, loosing 1 or 2 sec is not a big deal if you were doing an action just before. With our low GCD we can allow ourselves to do that,DRG can't..
If I recall correctly, it is better to clip at <3s than <6s...
Obviously. Nothing to even recall there. The less you clip, the better. However, since Demolish comes around once every 3 hits at best in a combo rotation, it's better to clip at <6s than to use a Snap Punch and go another combo. If it just so happens Demo is at <3 when you get around to the finisher, even better.
The only option for Demo clipping (without fracture or forced disconnect) is Snap+Demo rotation instead of Snap+Snap+Demo rotation, so pitting Demo potency against a single Snap would be incorrect imo. From personal testing, while clipping Demo at around 4 sec left with Snap+Demo rotation isn't a huge loss, Snap+Snap+Demo will pull ahead in overtime potency even if you drop the demo effect occasionally. Personally the only time I would clip Demo is when I refresh ToD in the same cycle, as that makes the Demo run a GCD longer and be in better clipping range.
I got my Animus! And yes, those eyes ARE glowing! <3

Btw, has anybody else noticed that if your Skill Speed gets high enough with Greased Lightning, your GCD will be less than 2 seconds? Mine has reached that point, and I just BURN through enemies now.
I actually like the GCD being that low, it makes burn phases in the endgame fights absolutely trivial for me.
Hey guys, relatively new 50 Monk here. So far my ilvl is sitting around 58 and I've got my relic. I've been running Brayflox hard over and over trying to get the gear there, but half the time we just get crafting items. Is it better to use the Myth tomes for gear, or should I save those to upgrade my relic, and just hope for drops?
Depends.
Can you do Levi EX for the weapon?
Can you do XM Primals for the weapon?
If you can don't bother spending Myth for weapon since both of these are considerably better. Otherwise the weapon is probably the single biggest upgrade to your DPS you can get for the cost of Myth, you'll eventually want to get it sooner or later anyway so you can progress with the Relic questline.
That scenario is pretty much the typical way to have your finisher GCD come up as Demolish has <6s left on the target. If you just do a Demo + Snap rotation, you'll be clipping Demo earlier than that, which would be a DPS loss yes.
The use of ToD or Fracture, or any situation requiring time away from the target can lead to situations where you offset the timing of Demolish, and my analysis has shown me to simply decide whether or not to clip it based on if it has more or less (or equal to) 6 seconds left on the target as the GCD becomes available.
Calling all "Monks With MATLAB"
Got bored after playing with the BLM rotation, and decided to build a so-so monk rotation simulation.
No IR or BfB. And Autoattacks, as well as Steel Peak and Howling Fist are calculated at the end of each cycle... Though you will want to run this for 1,000,000 cycles to get a proper reading.
The upside is that you can, if you want to poke through the code a bit, adjust the rotation to see the overall effects of different ones.
So without further adieu...

That's a whole lot of work there, and it's cool. The "rotation" though... well let's just say it leaves a lot to be desired.
That's the typical issue with simulations though - they often times get a subpar series of skills together to favor a shorter loop, whereas in actuality there really is no standard rotation to speak of with MNK. Entirely a priority system. It's more so a constant series of conditional branches:
if (condition == true) then execute <skill1>, else execute <skill2>
Optimal performance on MNK depends on knowing what the conditions to look for are, and what skill to select based on the answer. The obvious ones are obvious, while some not so much.
While demolish does take around 2 seconds to apply, and at 6 seconds would leave it just a hair above the 3 second mark, it takes 7 full drops of demolish for it to really impact your DPS. As Kit said, you can use Snap -> Snap -> Demolish, but you risk hitting that net loss.
Hey guys I'm pretty new to Monk but I'm not understanding something about almost every single BiS list for Monk. I keep seeing High Allagan Boots over the Gloam boots as BiS. Unless I'm missing something every stat is the same and we're trading 12 Det for 18 Crit, With Easymode's stat weights. My math says 12 x .332 = 3.984 > 18 x .187 = 3.366. Obviously it's not a huge difference but since I'll be purchasing Monk gear going forward with my Soldiery I just wanted to ask before I purchased the boots. Sadly as this is the class I'll be playing the 3rd most High Allagan drops aren't really an option until we start seeing multiple duplicates so I plan on purchasing all the BiS Monk pieces and waiting for the rest.
Hey guys, I have a question I hope someone can help with.
I have the Hellish Claws and I've just completed my first book on my Sphairai Atma. When should I replace the claws? I'm working on my 2nd book now and soon my relic should have 35 Str.
Does the +4 str (2 books) on the relic outweigh the +26 det on the claws?
I'm a bit acc starved atm so I still need to use my relic in coil, but other than that I've been using the claws.
Thanks.
Hey guys, I'm wondering about something :
Monk is my main class and i'm pretty sure to play it perfectly or near perfectly, however my dps has always been lesser than what other people parse with their monks. On T8 I have an average of only 400 with ilvl 106 if I'm not bound (i'm however in charge of the link and the brainjack). I parsed 410 on a Dummy and I realised that my character isn't doing all the auto attacks, since I'm playing on Legacy mode (to avoid the back pedaling).
I'm considering using the left and right strafe on legacy mode instead of turn left/right key (my english isn't perfect so I hope this will help you understand what I mean) : http://puu.sh/9ruYl/c23a3dc1b8.png.
what is WASD on your keyboard is ZQSD for me, french keyboards, please don't mind it :).
The problem is that when i hit both S and A or D my character start back pedaling again and I hate that.
So basically, do you think should I try to get used to it or do you know any other way to solve my problem ? Thanks in advance.
I'm jelly. 106 is insain lvl for monk at this time. 410 with dummy with ilvl 110 sold weap is awesome, but that video on YouTube of " 400 DPS monk", set the standard. And that cat was at the time like ilvl 95. No1 cares he spent a week and 2 stacks of x-pot str to get best results. But, he did it.
To answer your question, apparently your kb works just fine. Keep up the good work brother monk.
I'd say the main issue here is that you're in charge of the Link and Brainjack, most groups have a Bard or offtank do that as it's a huge DPS loss for a monk.
When you're parsing on a dummy are you in a group and if so do you use buff food on the dummy? It makes a huge difference.
Thanks for the answers.
Do you think 400 dps on T8 is a good number if i'm doing the brainjack ? I am at 415 during the 1rst phase but I'm not sure.
@Atreides yes, I was using Buttons in a Blanket HQ.
