story of my life
The worst healing story I have was during my first run of ifrit. This one dps wouldn't avoid the aoes and kept getting push off the edge!
In the end he left blaming me and the tank :P
Gather round children and I shall tell you the tale of: The Tanks, The healers and The Goblins. (Alex Floor 2)
So everything's going cool, removing bombs, keeping tanks up, dps killing the giant spiders.
Then the last phase starts and all hell breaks loose.
The tanks get hit hard.
So you heal them harder.
This makes alot of aggro.
Tanks aren't picking them up.
So the hardhelms hit you.
You get a healer potent debuff.
Your heals do nothing.
Everyone is dead.
CUE THE HEALER ABUSE IN CHAT!
"WHY DID YOU NOT HEAL THE TANK BLAH BLAH"
Sound familiar to anyone?
Wak up this morning, turn on game.
Get invited to A4 farm party, before I even have a sip of coffee. I think, well this should be an interesting way to wake up. Everyone is hyped and "everyone eill have thei loot in 4 runs! Yay us!"
First run, noone calls adds.
Other healer is a fan of putting up Med II and regen befor each left leg add phase.
People taking missle hits beside tank, not grabbing lasers.
Not calling when they are jailed.
Apparently heals are supposed to be dodging dps while Judgement and Discoid is up at same time as well.
had a bard repelling shot into me during Judgement and give me grief.
People taking moremballs than they have HP.
Dps running to balls, then changing their mind, running away, so I run to it, then they run back for splash damage fun.
Everyone is talking like they know everything, yet allmof my df groups last week gelled better.
Oh, and despite it being a farm party where everyone stay till everyone gets loot, we seem to lose two people every damn run.
I didn't even want A4 today and I didn't get any loot.
Oh and the Med II spamming healer is using a parser and seems to think healing output is a race from the comment "you put out X heals that run, that OK I guess...." wtf!
It's not that "horrible" but...
We were 8 in pugs team to kill Odin.
I was with my astro and the other heal was a white mage.
the dps wasn't too bad, the MT tank (a war) was a little too much crunchy, but what ever, i think it was possible to pass it.
Each time we reach the gungnir apparition, the white mage just heal like nothing super stressfull was happening. I personnaly had to try to suppress the more bleeding that i could before the blades arriving, and had to keep the Mt alive while i spaming my aoe heal on the dps, shuffling my cards and managing my mana.
Well... 3 wipes. Give up vote... and just before we leave, the white mage wrote : "Ingrid heal" (i'm Ingrid)
$!!!/○ßJ£!! !!! COme here ! i'll crush that little neck of yours with my bare haaaaaaands !!
Ugh. I had this the other day, thankfully the rest of the party knew it was the tanks and not the healers.
The tanks were stacking the adds, making them get the physical resistance debuff. Really sucked 'cause we had MNK, NIN, BRD, MCN. So I was trying to throw out as much DPS as I could to help burn the trash packs 'cause that invuln is really noticeable.
We got to the last phase every single time, but we had one tank that was really slow and the other that was marking stuff. I made sure to have no Regens or Medica II up and both the dolls came at me because I was in their LoS. I kited them, popping Regen and burning through Tetra and Bene on myself before they finally just 1 shot me. Then they go to the other healer and kill them. The tanks literally did nothing to pick them up for a good 30 seconds until after the healers were dead. They got tons of chat abuse and then we disbanded.
Currently, WAR DPS can end up higher than many casual DPS in DF. Which is a bit sad.
Going all-in with STR attributes is fine and recommended to keep hate (like if tank is i145 but DPS is i170+ in those lvl60 dungeons they will have some challenges keeping aggro without STR). Having VIT to get close to 20k HP is just not needed with the current content at the moment. But using Deliverance stance requires the WAR not being undergeared too. If they were, everyone really starts to feel the impact.
But for the most part I don't mind WAR going in Deliverance during appropriate times. But I trust my WARs I run with compared to some of the lazy DF ones out there that won't even use stacks for mitigation skills while in Defiance like Inner Beast/Thrill of Battle, and instead spending them on DPS skills. At that point if they can't even mitigate using tank stance, they are probably going to be careless in DPS too.
We didn't wipe, but Shiva Hard was fun in today's trial roulette. Standard fare until adds, we AoE them and the main tank decides to chip in with some DPS on them as well.
I see Shiva rising into the air, creating her sword. Being the extremely sexy and wise White Mage that I am, I know that Shiva immediately does Icebrand after switching to her sword and shield.
"Okay, he's going to move over to the other side so we don't get cleaved to death."
Nope! Thankfully I positioned myself behind her, but five people died immediately. The poor souls. :(
Then I spent the entire fight out of mana because of Holy spam on the adds and mass Raising, qq.
Decided to get my A2 loot today after yesterdays very painful A4 runs. Nice and easy right? Well the first run was.
Second started with the tanks losing control one all of the mob packs before we even got to the boss room. Which is always a confidence instilling scene.
Dps calls bio once we get to boss room. Yeah, all good, I'll just sip my coffee.
But befor I can even do that, or someone can call taking bombs, or someone can give the new PLD any instruction, Warrior McSupertank runs in and starts the fight.
I was about to walk out for lockout as the other heals already had, since the dps was bio, lucky he came back and everyone got in.
Tanks proceded to lose hate on multiple targets in each group of adds. Making it a healing nightmare. Now, I'm a very conservative healer in Alex, I've been trying to fine tune my aggro management and see how much healing actually needs to be done, rather than be Healy McMedIIspamalot, I should not have been taking hate off anyone. But here I am watching my bar, the other heals bar, and at least two dps bars drop on a consistant basis. Considering one dps is in the machine, that means eeveryone but one dps was ripping hate.
Best part was, the only defensive cooldown I saw Warrior McSupertank use in two attempts was Holmagang, after everyone else had died with multiple groups of adds left to spawn. Because you know, that's going to save the run.
Less of a healing story and more of the fact that "Well, I'm a total idiot" story.
When I was leveling AST, I thought all the cards were colour coded. They are, to a degree. Then I started to recognize that Spear was a light blue and... Arrow was a very similar light blue.
When I got to 50, I began to think "Hey, why haven't I ever pulled Arrow yet?". Then I started to pay attention to the cards I began to draw and then it dawned on me.
"Well, now I feel like the nubbiest nub of 'em all"
I guess better I learned at 51 versus at 60.
Hehe, well, I bet anyone that would have liked a spear buff liked arrow just as much if not more. But it's not a bad time to find out... AST buffs come into their own in the later levels, IMO. Early on, you just don't really have the tools to manipulate them as much.
More of a derp on my part, I leave bio on my virus on my DPS hotbar. Because of my muscle memory with always turning off CS before switching back to my one of my healing hotbars, I would activate CS unknowingly go healing until either I notice much later on that I am healing with physicks of 500 HP or some one points it out. Thankfully no deaths have actually happened when this happens but man is it embarrassing.
Had a pretty bad time in A4 yesterday. Got in a DF group and many people had the first kill title so I figure that they have done a couple of runs already and it will be an easy 10 minutes work. How wrong I was. The problem started on the first phase with the orbs. They would spawn and.....Nobody moves. Nobody even seems to see them until they all crash into everyone all clumped together and they wipe. Next run. Same thing but manage to power through with heals. Despite telling them about the obvious tell when the Orbs spawn steam comes from the bosses leg. They still don't even notice until it's too late.
Got to phase two somehow. Anarchy with adds none of the DPS are on top of the spawns the only one that is the Tank has hold of. first wave somehow goes down. Beams on me....Nobody notices and I die. Get a raise. Next add phases beams on me again. Do they notice? Of course not. Then one DPS gets 4 stacks from the add and doesn't think to run before he becomes a suicide bomber and kills everyone.
Next run wiped on orbs again because they do the same thing. I'm still pretty mad that they just screwed me over on beams and complain about it. They kick me. The funniest thing the only other guy complaining was one of the Tanks and right after got in another A4 with that same Tank and a fresh group and downed it in 7-8 mins.
Actually, if tanks stay purely defensive, this allows the healers to do some dps, and 3-4 well timed holys each mob pack will do more dps, then the small dps gain using STR accesoirs and/ or going offensive stance
My horror story was in high level roulette, 2 blackmages synced down to lvl 50 (so with max itemlevel allowed in the dungeon) doing multiple flares on mob pulls and a freshly lvl 50 darkknight with a lvl 34 two hand sword.
Yesterday I ran the lost city of amdapor and my tank was pulling roughly 6-7 mobs at a time. BARELY living. Not sure if this what healing is suppose to be like or if he just really sucks at usng cooldowns. He was wearing full ironworks and had some version of relic.
Anyway at the end he told the dps that they suck and left. It's stuff like this that makes me not want to heal. I miss assize and asylum :/
So there was a question in the Tank's forum about When to Deliverance and this seems to be a good answer!
(of course it was a joke answer, and you might know just how much horror that would bring about were it to happen for real)
So the DPS in me has to comment on this.
If the DPS is too slow, you will have to heal more, and the tank will run the risk of staying in the middle of 6-7 mobs WHILE his CDs are down. Death is usually imminent. It's his fault for gauging the DPS's damage higher than what it really was.
neverreap final boss:
This tank's been doodoo all dungeon, struggling to hold hate... Last Fight - Pulls boss - runs to egde... jumps off the edge. : _ : We 3 man it to victory.
I recently had a run of Thornmarch (Hard). The first sign of trouble was when the SMN had to be informed that 'DOTs were half [his] DPS.' The DPS in general just refused to focus on downing individual Mooglesguard, resulting in insta-wipe when King Mog used Momento Moogle.
The other healer got pissed, and was eventually kicked for being 'rude.' And then...the group decided not to wait for DF to find another one, leaving me as the sole healer. I actually did fair, but we still kept falling to the wipe mechanic. In the end, a couple of the others declared 'You are all awful' and we voted to abandon the duty.
To be fair, although a lot of blame was heaped on the DPS, if you keep pulling while down a healer, you're probably not the best player yourself. Especially since I was a SCH, and the second phase is pretty heavy on the AoE damage. SCH doesn't exactly have the throughput to handle that on its own very well.
Was playing around with Trial DR last night with my AST while it was on Healer in Demand. I got Ravana HM, thinking it couldn't be that bad.
The Ravana HM took 3 attempts to do. The clear attempt was a 14 minute long slog fest where the highest three DPS was the DRG, the WAR MT, and then the DRK OT in that order.
The NIN was new, the MNK felt new, and the SMN seemed to only know how to use Ruin II. The WHM I had with didn't know how to use Regen and died at least once on every attempt. I was more or less half solo healing it on AST for the majority of attempts.
So, yeah, a 14 minute clear of Ravana HM - he was up to 10 stacks of damage. He also did 3 vuln down attacks during his Astral Flow, so everyone but me, both tanks, and the DRG was dead after that (I was sitting at two digit HP..). I was also the only healer actually raising DPS. But, we managed to beat it.
Oh, and I got 0 commends for my performance. -.- Oh well.
This happens to me a lot when I feel I carried the run but if you know you did well it's good enough. Rather have a run where I'm happy with what I did than one where I know I made silly mistakes. In those situations I think people just want to leave and don't think about commendations lol.
Indeed, normally a 0 commend run for a carry doesn't bug me. I think what bugged me about this particular run was the fact that the general opinion after the fight was done was the WHM was carrying the group, and not me. I think that really irritated me the most.
My horror History was on Vault, I got a low level Roulete in progress, last Boss. I have the bad feeling about this.
1- All the people geting Bleeding Debuff
2- All the people geting the Fucking Slow
3- Tanker was getting hit like he was a paper.
4- BRD don't Stay on my Helios Radius
5- BRD don't Broke the Chain
6- SO I have to use LIGHTSPEED+ "Ensuna", to remove 2 Debuffs from Everyone except me, and use Aoe Healing INST To save Everyone
7- I use X-Ether+ Refresh to get my mp up
8- I have to repeat 6, except I don't have Lightspeed, Refesh,Ether and Essential Dignity.
9- The BRD Dies, Raise Him
10- The BRd Don't Know to play Songs (This make me want to go Back playing as BRD)
11- I have Mp issues Almost Healing Whit only Benefic I
12- We Cleared
13- The BRD Say "The Healer Suck"
Horror story - Had an soft enrage on Faust on A1 earlier today due to low DPS. It cleaved the tank, then it cleaved five other people in the party before dying. At least we cleared Oppressor without too much hitch.
Anti-Horror Story - Ran into Saseal in A1 PF and the healing was GLORIOUS.
Not really a horror story, but more of a "O_O OHSHITI-.....;o; ......noooooo..... OTL I was too late...."
When you end up in a DF (A1) with someone you recognize from the forums and you're too busy looking at them and thinking "Waaaait is that? o.o wait I think it is o_o :0 *Amaze*", but you didn't want to be all creeper-like and derp...... and during that, you don't notice them addressing you. ;-;
In SUPER delayed response: Yes, thats mehauntingin the healer forums. xD I sorry! ;-; Was good to healer-buddy up with a face I recognized, Ghishlain xD MUCH GLORYS +_+
Copperbell mines hm. The last pull. Please tank, next time don't run behind the wall..
I am starting to hate when the high level roulette puts me in that dungeon.
First group: tank does that beautiful last big pull, I position myself next to the tank but away from aoe range (near the wall that fall off when you kill a certain mob).. Too bad the bard aggroed the slimes that immediately run to me as I was trying to keep the tank alive, and they stayed on me until I died (I run towards the tank hoping for a flash but I was ignored >_>).
Second group: tank does that last big pull, stops in the open area without doing anything, then run towards the last wall just as I was starting to heal... Turns out he wanted to do a 'sack pull' or whatever it's called.
I am fine with big pulls. I am fine with sack pulls. But please, please, please TELL me in advance what you are doing!!
Sorry for the mini rant ^^'
Apologies in advance for inevitably bringing up a sensitive topic with this one.
During a run of Brayflox (Normal), our healer DC'ed. (I was playing SMN but trust me, this is relevant.) We were in the big area before the penultimate boss, and being an under level cap SMN, I had enough MND on my gear to play trasitionary healer, allowing us to clear the area while DF searched for a replacement healer. Lots of fun and 'SMN heals for the win' all around.
DF gave a SCH just as we finished up the mobs, allowing us to procede to the boss. However, we quickly ran into problems. Namely, the SCH (who was still learning by her own admission) was spending WAY too much time in Cleric Stance. We finally confronted her about about it, and she confessed she was under the belief that SCH was required to DPS.
You can probably see where this is going.
First, we set her straight that no, she was NOT required to DPS. Especially when she was still learning the class. I made a point of telling her that healers were not in any way required to DPS. She needed to learn the class first, and only when/if she was comfortable with it, she could work on stance dancing to contribute DPS. Afterwards, she stayed out of Cleric Stance, focused on healing, and the rest of the run went smoothly.
It was horrifying in the sense that the community's 'healers must DPS' attitude had gimped an otherwise perfectly good player. I've loosened on my stance against it since, but the experience still sticks out in in my mind when the debate comes up, and not in a good way. (Again, apologies for bringing it up, but this still qualified as a 'healing horror story' for me, and I wanted to share it.)
Aurum Vale.
Trying to use auto-translate (EN->JP) to tell fresh 47 tank to eat fruit.
Tried using signs & mark on fruits.
Sound effects.
Point emote.
Telling other JP party members to "help me out!" and explain.
Nope. Nope. Nope.
Tank eats every aoe then starts to run around like headless chicken everytime at 5 stacks.
5th run to 1st boss room, Tank finally notices fruits with signs on top of them and eats it(!!!!)...
... and dies anyways cuz he eats the boss tentacle whip at the same time.
DPS manages to burn boss down.
How I felt like at the end of 1st boss room as healer.
http://www.lassothemovies.com/wp-con...05/Platoon.jpg
Messy run to next boss room and at Coincounter boss - tank proceeds to actually dodge every Swing (but eats all Swipes still).
http://img3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb2...d-template.jpg
Final boss room. Tank forgets about fruits completely. Debuff stacks up to 6 then...
Stacks end up actually timing out and disappear. Holy crap.
We manage to clear final boss in 1st try. I ding 49 as AST.

JP DPS says "Good Game!" via auto-translate.
I just drop controller.
A4, with a DF'ed party and two FC mates.
Several wipes in the same places as every DF'd party does.
BRD: "GG DPS
LOLZ GG BLM" (*Slaps BRD for unfairly going after FC mate*)
*Back at the beginning after a wipe*
BRD: "LOL GG PPL U ALL SUCKKKK KILL ADDS" (*as he auto-attack pulls the boss without the tanks*)
*Continues in-chat abuse*
I shoulda let him tank the floor and stay there.
GG Bard.
The one of exceedingly few times I happily select "Yes" to the vote abandon.
It is a Horror story, but at least it has a decent ending...

I had a run with Keeper of the Lake. Normally, even at the best of times prior to V3.0, playing this duty often has the typical speed-runner types. On that day I noticed something odd about the Tank, the tank was way too squishy, like one-hit-KO squishy. The Tank realized all their gear was broken, and I suggested that they use whatever non-broken gear they have, which they were able to do except the weapon. So the second boss was harder than needed.
This was a new duty for one of the DPS as well. I enjoy a challenge as long as it's not impossible. It does however require a lot more strategic thinking.
Midgardsomr doesn't really have anything to "Tank", just the two Mirage dragon puppets. So as long as my skills aren't getting canceled by hits, I should be ok. My normal strategy for this boss doesn't use Medica II except after Animadiversion. So I was tanking Midgardsomr, which not-surprisingly is how this fight usually feels. Just a lot more direct-hits than normal. It wasn't any harder than it was when the duty was new.
My first Fractal run was a hoot during the final boss. Dark knight explained mechanics briefly and pulled, always tanking in a corner. DRK didnt know about the blue squares giving Vulnerability up (which i quickly grasped since i saw it stack lol).
So wipe. Get blamed for not healing enough, dps get blamed for not downing adds fast enough (mch and smn).
Wipe again. And again. And again. Get called a crappy white mage. I retort sayong i can't heal through so much vulnerability up. Tank is confused. I explain what's going on and how i was amazed she didnt notice the debuff.
Apologies to me then we win. Lol.
Im a bit of a lurker but:
A4; WAR OT refused to soak orbs saying that it was DPS's job to soak them all until 3rd phase. Said that he's always done it this way and that no one had complained to him before when he never soaked orbs. Got upset when we wiped saying that we weren't doing our jobs. Then sat at the edge of the platform until we vote dismissed him. Didnt help that the other healer with me ate what seemed like every aoe there was on that platform.
Fractal; WAR was always in Deliverance; would always switch out of Defiance to Deliv right after pull making healing such a pain on every pull/boss. Finally said something to them on last boss.. he tanked the last half in Deliverance..
Alex raids seem to have a lot of instances of just plain bad everything, lol.
When it comes to A4 in DF I wouldn't trust the DPS with a pair of scissors and just don't let them do anything lol. On my last DF run in there some BLM actually complained to me for doing a line of orbs by myself saying it's the job of the Tanks. The last thing I want is the MT tanking orbs and taking damage from the boss at the same time and I can trust myself to take a line of orbs while the other Healer focuses on healing the OT while they do the rest.
Telling the DPS to do orbs often leads to anarchy some groups can even manage to kill 3 adds.
My FC mate MTs A4 constantly, and usually does both (MT + left side orbs) with no real problem (with cures in between). o_o But then again, he's a tank that actually understands and uses his CDs with pride.
The only problem occurs in phase two if a DPS is in Quarantine two DPS grab two ADDs and the third doesn't.... Only time I've seen him die before the usual DF wipe section was from grabbing the last ADD away from us healers, it exploding in his face somewhere down the line and at the same time as what I believe was a Perpetual Ray (witht he ADD debuff.... not sure how many stacks) on top of things. (but to be fair, we had a man down in Quarantine and OT/DPS also in Q at the time, so only 2 DPS and 3 ADDs on the field and us healers trying to patch everyone up from ALL the things).
Queued into Aurum Vale to level up my ast. Haven't had a horror story with this dungeon for a while, so wasn't expecting one this run... I was veeeeeery wrong DX
The tank does the first pull normally, but stands in the yellow goop the ENTIRE time. The ninja is also standing in the goop because the backs of the mobs just happen to be sitting in the oh so lovely golden pools as well. Now I understand he probably wanted to get his positional, but come on! When I was leveling my melee classes, even I didn't stand in the gold bile when the side I needed wasn't available. D; I was very tempted to tell them to please not stand in the pools, but both their hp bars were dropping so fast I had to spam benefic 2. OTL
Next pull is also normal; tank goes off to the left side and pulls those mobs. Then the tank goes to the middle of the room and picks up the roaming mobs, but in the process gets the attention of the frog and many other enemies. I'm thinking to myself, "I can handle this!" but the tank leaves one single enemy on me, making healing very difficult. (It was one of the plant things; they look like wolfsbane from wod) I am spamming benefic 2 on the tank AND myself praying that no one dies, and blowing essential dignity on the tank whenever it's up. The ninja occasionally stands in the gold bile making it that much harder for me. Can't remember if the summoner took any damage, but I know for sure I was having trouble just keeping the tank and myself alive. At one point the tank got so low on hp I popped lightspeed and just straight up spammed benefic 2 for my life hoping the tank wouldn't reach 0. Crazy enough, no one died, but I was completely drained of my mp and patience. Also, the tank only pulled the plant thing off me when there were 3 mobs left. When the mobs are finished off, the tank says, "ok too much". T_T
First boss is fine except the ninja gets 4 stacks. I say in chat, "yo <nin name>", and he was like what, then proceeds to die as the next aoe goes out. Then he realized... rest of the fight went smoothly though.
Trash pulls are fine again, and then we're up against the Coincounter. The tank makes no attempt to dodge any of the swipes and the tank and ninja both get mauled with the first swing. The summoner is running around with the boss and even raises the ninja. I raise the tank but get hit with a glower in the process. We recover and finish the boss.
Once we get to the next trash pull, the tank says, "big pull", and I say, "um no thank you" (Yes, I was pretty salty at this point). Tank proceeds to pull the whole room, and it's just another benefic 2 spamfest for me. I say, "smn lb" and the summoner says, "it's not going to do much..." All I'm thinking is, "don't caaaaare, I just need some of those to die faster!" Smn lbs which takes out a good chunk of the enemies and we eventually proceed to the morbol rooms. Tank says big pull again and I'm just thinking oh great... but the tank does a normal pull and I was not going to complain about that! Everything goes normally, and we reach the final boss.
The tank is so focused on stunning the boss during bad breath that they made no attempt to get out of the way just in case it was immune to stuns. I think they only successfully avoided one bad breath, but got hit by every other one. The seeds come up and are downed by the dps (thank goodness!) Tank continues to get hit by bad breaths and I am getting low on mp. I decide to stop cleansing the tank so I can save some mp for healing. The next set of seeds come up and the smn lbs. They handled the first set fine, so I didn't see the need for smn lb. Even the ninja said something, but I forgot. Boss is defeated and I get out of there FAST hahaha!
First Time doing Ravana Story Mode as an AST.
Turns out I actually suck at AST.
Wipe 14 times throughout the night without a down.
Go to bed.
Switch back to SCH the next day.
Remember I love SCH and am good at it, so reque for Ravana.
3 more wipes because the AST healing with me refused to go Dinural and kept overriding my shields with his weaker ones and kept Stoneskinning everyone constantly instead of doing any real healing or card play.
Also, the MT got flung off the edge immediately in Phase 3 all 3 times.
Finally ended up with 3 good DRGs and a SMN after 35 minutes of people leaving and downed him.
Former FC mate decided that pulling half the first room of Aurum was an awesome idea that would save lots of time. Despite me saying after literally every wipe that taking it slower would in this case save time, he did it again. And again. And again. Never had 4 wipes in there with a pug before..
