Viera as the next new race~ Show your support

If we get Viera, I hope we also get Lupin next expansion..or some similar kind of fox/wolf race.

Bump! Please add Viera. I think they should also consider making a FF MMO based on Ivalice and include those races..

Had to look up Lupin in relation to this game because when I saw that I was thinking Lupin the 3rd. Either way I'd be fine with either addition. Also yes for Viera

The lore book states that some of them can - it's just extremely rare.

Which means they're still unlikely to be ever playable. More so if we think about the ARR and SB plot and how it may need some re-writing in some places (more so for ARR, since Garleans are kinda responsible for the Calamity 5 years prior).

A reply i just made on FB to a suggestion for Viera in FFXIV.

A lot of people like to complain that Viera would be more of the same... I however can't help but see it as constancy. Never has a playable race been anything more than a human variant with non human features. There are other games out there to fill the furry, non human niche, why must a Japanese game with Japanese aesthetics be forced to conform to the sensibilities of a minority that makes up so little of the player base? Not to mention that many who want said "diversity" would not use the races in question, instead simply wanting them as a background dressing to make the world more inclusive even while they play as one of the "human with animal features". This does not even begin to take into account the issues with animating so much of the cut scenes to work with non human faces... How exactly does a smile better suit a hero when the have beak?

As for the desire for more character creation options, that is an argument i would love to champion. However, this would only be after a Complete redesign of the game. I'm talking on the scale on 1.0 to 2.0 server relaunch (to include character migrations, server redesign, and engine remake). This is something that i do not see happening until at least 10.0, that's with the caveat that the game lasts that long.

See, thats the issue though. Most in this thread have stated they don't want Viera to be a human with bunny ears but thats the most likely scenario for what they'll get; and that doesn't even get into the whole tall vs short argument. The simple fact is, no matter what SE does alot of people will be unhappy. I would argue that their best course of action is to not put them in the game at this point, thats the only way they don't come out of this with a giant headache.

Not doing something because someone will get upset, perfectly explains this current generations mind set.

Sticking to a theme isn't an attack against those who dislike it. Choosing to do something new is not done to spite a player base. Being silent in face of player demand due to fear of alienating either is cowardness plain and simple.

"Most in this thread" as you put it, are here to support the idea of Viera integration in FFXIV. It has been said before, if enough interest is shown then the possibility of Viera being in FFXIV has merit. Already Viera has been referenced in FFXIV, we need only now see what model is chosen as their representation in this game. Following that, why would player demand not be met?

Your deity forbid one reads the title of the discussion before your two cents are forced down someones throat... Discussion within the supporting of Viera integration is possible. If the model is just ripped from FFXII, then that tells me Viera aren't planned to be playable. If they're actually given a new model (built from the ground up), then we can use this as proof they'll probably be playable at some point. I will do my best not to say "I told you so" if I see any Viera supporter state their disappointment with whatever design SE go with (and I still doubt they will have the same lore as XII's Viera). I'd be very disappointed if it's just a human with rabbit ears no taller than a Midlander, though. Surely SE have the funds to at least try.

All that said, regarding your "Not to mention that many who want said "diversity" would not use the races in question" comment, I would play as a Lupin were they playable. Or any beastman, really (when I was a Roegadyn, I fashioned this look for a few months. It did not look as good on Lalafells)... except the Sylphs, Moogles and Namazu.

As i said "Many who want said "diversity" " not all. Never have i said there would be no one who would use more bestial races. I have maintained that the amount of people who would do so is a very slim minority not justifying the amount of time,effort, resources, or possible item /emote/ mount exclusion due to structural differences.

Many times you and i have clashed about this topic, never once did i question whether you would use a more bestial race you have often advocated for, unlike some. We may not agree, but your sincerity for the subject has been noted.

That being said, the talk about disappointing people. You can't please everyone, they sure as heck didn't please me with the "Dragon" girls. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't do something lol!

I really don't think that any of that is outside their power and I do feel that something like that is what most are hoping for.

Problem is in what path they may take ... cause they can easily go the path of making them small and cute pear shaped people that look youthful. Even though I want the tall version I may get that if it's the only option just cause I love bunnies so much. But I know some people who wont go for that and would just stay a cat girl.

That's why I personally think they should do a Human deal and make a tall group and a small group. Sure, more work and all ... but really both hit a demo, a feeling that's not repped in the current line up. And plus, I'm sure they want to please as many as they can so that people convert to them. If you're gonna go through the trouble of making a version of the shoe library to fit their feet might as well make the most of it and have a big and small scaled version.

I mean, yeah, bunny people may have to deal with not everything looking good on their feet ... just like how tail races have to deal with clipping. Not the end of the world to have their toes be shown in most glams, that's pretty much how GW2 treats it..

I love the Viera but I think I'd prefer something new for Eorzea. Not everything has to be derived from other Final Fantasy games.

A lot of the jobs, races, etc, are designed to be nostalgia from other Final Fantasy games. Yeah, they'll throw in the odd curveball here and there, but for the most part, it's "nostalgia nostalgia look at it and recognise it you sheep" (to quote TheYamiks from his Krait Mk.II "review") - note that I am not trying to call anyone here sheep, just pulling that quote because I like it and it seems relatively apt here.

As for Viera, not something I'd use, but more options are good.

i think Viera is just wish for those who want play a female character..... so im for more face options and totally more customizable options with current races

I have seen quite a few people interested in the male ones. They're similar to male miqo'te (the slender, toned prettyboy look) but taller and their faces could probably go either way (could be more "fierce" or could be gentler). Sort of a cross between miqo and Au Ra. I'd be a female bunny, but I'd love eyeballing the boys running around. ;)
