Make FFXIV more like FFXI and less like WoW!

Many of the things you'd hear complaints about are reasons people preferred XI over WOW or vice versa. Like this quest example. I hesitate to even call it a fetch quest. There is hardly reward like you say. But that's the point. Hand-out large XP rewards: that tells players what to do and how to do it. Once you add that to the quest, every player does it. That goes against sandbox model. Getting to 75 there was a trail of bread crumbs you could follow but you couldn't make a meal out of them.

FFXI wasn't perfect, it needed solutions to some of the very hard itemization gates on progression, and desperate job balance for some that were left waaaay behind. The Aggro system needed adjustments. Instead of those unique solutions to XI's unique problems, they gave out face-roll grinding hoping to lure the WOW community. Shame. That's when they lost my sub.

They added a jump feature, wuuut? I liked the fact that city hubs weren't bursting communities of Marios & Luigis. Heck I remember the outcry of disgust when they said XIV was going to have jump.

Actually Square and Nexon are supposed to be remaking FFXI for mobile using Unreal Engine 4. However odds are it may end up with Maple Story's cash shop in some form or another. You may also need to start from scratch if you're still playing it on PC. If anything it looks to be taking more from FFXIV than FFXIV will ever take from FFXI, besides the updated resources for various mobs.

Honestly, I don't really give two rat's butts if you take what I have to say seriously. It's highly unlikely that I take anything you have to say as anything more than someone wants to be a social justice keyboard warrior. I voiced my opinion on the subject, just like everyone else in the thread. Thanks for noticing the tags. I'm glad they struck a cord with you, that means that on some level you know them to be true. They fit true to form in describing both the game and the people who champion that game in these threads. "Lots of zeal for a sucky game called FFXI."

Why be 'objective' when I've played the game? FFXI sucked. Seriously it did. Yes, that's my opinion. However, what I've pointed out are often repeated complaints about it. When you keep seeing people post about wanting those things in this game or making this game into the sequel to FFXI, someone needs to give them a cold dose of reality as to why that is not ever going to happen.

Everything was a massive time sink. It took like a week to even get a chocobo license to use the chocobo taxis. Because the quest was literally: feed a chocobo, wait 20 hours to do it again, and hope he likes you a bit more till his affection got to max.

Look i don't disagree with you but you need to stop over exaggerating.

The chocobo quest you had to feed it four items, one every GAME DAY. Second, while losing exp when you die is the dumbest thing ever it was hardly "hours of grinding" to get it back. The only time this kind of thing happened was if you were doing Dynamis, content where you would probably die several time over a three-isa hour period.

Another thought occurred to me comparing the two. When it comes to young Elvaan sidekicks, Prishe was an infinitely more interesting and entertaining character than Alphinaud or Alisaie. After all, the latter sent us to kill all the difficult enemies, whereas Prishe joins you in battle and helps you beat an evil god to death using only her bare fists.

Forgive me for not remember it exactly. Suffice it to say, it took far longer than necessary JUST to use a chocobo taxi. Before you could even do that rediculous quest, you had to get to Juno first. Which, even then you had to be level 20 to even have a chance to get there, let alone pick up the quest. Let's not get into all the hoops you had to jump through just to get an airship pass.

So over exaggerating.. hardly. Especially if all I remember of it years later is the obsurdity of how long and tedious things were to achieve the most miniscule of basic functionalities. Everything was a chore and a half.

If i got lost i would use FFXIclopedia to to answer any question i had, better than cluttering the screen with tons of junk. Those massive time sinks are gone, you feed the chocobo every minute now. You can even jump but i don't think it has any use, never see anyone use it. You can solo to 99 easy now using trusts. They have a free log in week right now too. Though you shouldn't complain about having to be social in a MMORPG that is pretty much the point of the genre.

Until they overcome the ps2 architecture probably new story content that takes place within the current established areas. There are tons and tons of areas in XI so i don't mind that.

This was not a good thing. People were overly dependent on FFXIclopedia. For good reasons, but we were. The quests were way too vague, even on a starter level.
