grammar nazi's :P
what is flag control?
i don't really get why they're talking about this part in the first place though.
wasn't this already talked about at some point? i feel like the beginning so far is all old news.
basically meeting conditions to start content or quests. In this case i think he is saying, the problem is if you made a huge adventure seen from different angles, then one player would only be able to see it one way. Also handling the different flags per the charachter, like the fact that i did something on my level 45 pugilist, how does that effect the main story on my level 25 goldsmith. Also how a battle charachter might react versus a crafter, whereas a crafter might cower when enemies come, it wouldnt make as much sense for a guy who is a level 50 pugilist who fought the gods to cower when he is doing the missions.
Now im not saying his premise is completely accurate, but he is basically saying his reasoning
Ran that post about gatherers in Google translate and man does it hurt my head. Gonna wait for Rein's translation or the official one. XD
I was kind of reading the posts after his though and the reactions to it seem positive though.
Don't understand why he's talking about storyline bits on a post that was ostensibly about class changes.
Honestly I think in terms of "Story" content issue is kinda silly since he's pretty much forgetting that Adventurers have the ability of the Echo so in a sense one could see the journey the the eyes of another and if people have noticed when in an echo you pretty much have the ability to interact with those around you and they react to you as a person, so I don't see why they wouldn't just be able to have it where the Echo allows one to see the plot through a different discipline.

jk, that's just what i want for breakfast >.<
achievements count as content to these people? please.......
It's something to aim for, with concrete rewards to go with it.
It's justification. There's no real reason behind why Gatherer classes will get nothing more than sidequests (Sidequests don't get cutscenes and typically have gil rewards.) even if it has something vaguely to do with the OMG Imperials. It just goes against his personal philosphy for how the game should be. If we don't like it we can play something else. Of course, we will get thrown a bone every once in a while. But I don't expect gathering for housing to be anything more special than gathering for anything else. I find his reluctance to implement dungeons accessible to DoL baffling. o.O How is a DoL in a dungeon distinct from any another class in a dungeon? Whatever man.
I wouldn't mind clicking a "!" over an NPCs head and getting a gatherer exclusive quest tho. But I don't expect these to be high level and I don't expect the rewards to be anything other than some low level culottes I can't use.
In my wildest dreams, I would like to visit a Mine. You know, an actual mine that The Uldah Miner's guild keep talking about...?
But... *sigh*
Well said Physic.
And I would agree with Yoshida-san's stance (about focusing FF XIV 2.0's story around Battle Classes).
I personally love Botanist (and I leveled it as much as my Mage class (R50 Botanist now)), and I'd say it's one of my favorite classes to play, but even under Tanaka, I realized it was unrealistic to expect every single Story Mission to have a "Battle Class version" and a "Crafting version" and a "Gatherer version"...
That's 3 times the amount of work, making sure each scenario can work under those different categories of classes (e.g., how would your R25 Goldsmith take on this Story Mission vs. your R45 Miner or Botanist vs. your R40 Conjurer or Archer).
While I'm sure they could come up with creative ways to have someone, say, furiously chop some trees down for this Boss Battle, the amount of work and linking things up is a huge undertaking.
I'd rather them focus on Combat at the core, and have some fun, interesting Gathering and Crafting Content (like the Ishgard Defense mentioned in the 2.0 PDF (where all 4 Categories of classes can join in).
I empathize with Gatherers that wanted to play FF XIV exclusively as a Miner, Botanist or Fisher, forever (and never battle), but it looks like that's not the case with this post from Yoshida-san.
And I think it's a change that allows a better focus to make each Story Scenario more challenging, balanced and interesting (now that they know they're balancing Story Battles only based on DoW / DoM).
What Yoshida does not understand is the longer you have to wait for something the more likely it is to fall below expectations.
Oh sure, if Gatherer's do get what some people on this forum has been suggesting (Special transport (such as boats for fishers), helper pets, Access to mines and other exclusive maps, endgame gear and maybe even, more than two leves per town) That would be awesome.
From what I can see from this letter, nothing so fun is in the works. I'll feel lucky if Gatherer's go back to getting guildquests with cutscenes.
interesting, he plans to add exp chains to gatherer and crafter, and as far as gatherer, it seems there will be rare mats, that they will essentially have to hunt down, implies it moves. It will be interesting to see how that will be implemented, Its also one of the things they have in the long term 2.0 plans.
maybe i missed it, but is this entire post about DOL/DOH?
So what I'm getting out if it do far is that it'll be easier and more entertaining to level both DoL and DoH in 2.0. But the game still is totally ready for subs...
I'm getting tired of this "In 2.0...."
I'd like to know what he's planning for this year, some relevant info and when the update is. Was hoping for that in the letter but that dint happen.
fixed your post >.<
there isnt much left to translate so this post is quite disappointing if your (like me) looking for FFXIV entertainment this year.
compared to 2.0 there isnt much of any info at all for whats happening in the near feature as well as the rest of 2012
i know right? like i said earlier i dont know why hes even talking about any of this. half of it is old news and the other half is just self explanatory.
none of this is relevant at this point in time, even less so than the live feed which i though was half pure fail.
the supply and demand explanation is what, 10% of the entire post so far? lol wow
Are we still expecting the 1.20 and skill update letter this week ?
We should be less than a month from 1.20 now and a point where he wants to start charging us.
I think we deserve some concrete info.
i read that they were gonna post that right after this, but right after could be next month for all we know.
he said something about reviewing things over the weekend but according to grammar it could have been taken that he needs to review what was done over the past weekend or review what was done but this coming up weekend. who knows.
You guys don't worry. You'll all be much happier and informed...
...in 2.0
Careful, guys, your sense of entitlement is hanging out. (He said the class discussion is on the way, it's on the way. Gathering/crafting is a HUGE issue on the Japanese boards and a lot of people here clearly feel strongly about it, so it's worth the time hearing his justifications for his design decisions and priorities, even if you don't agree with them.)
