That kind of sounds like FF11 Fishing.
Is fisher not ready because it's too awesome...or is fisher not ready because they don't want to hear people rage about it yet?
Edit (Condensed): I'm not a dev, but it seems to me FSH is the least straightforward class. Comparing it to MNK, as someone did, isn't all that fair; most of DoW and M abilities come from fantasy and magic (a.k.a. thin air), while DoH/L needs to be properly balanced in the economy. Immersion into the game world also depends pretty heavily on DoH/L, and I'd expect it to be harder to make FSH believable and still engaging in the long run. I can understand if they feel the need to spend more time on it, although at some point they'll probably realize that the end result won't be unanimously enjoyed. Such is the nature of the gaming community. :p
My FSH is 13, but I will level it to 50 at some point. I gladly sat through countless hours of the other DoL, and I look forward to seeing something new and interesting when FSH is fully implemented.
Another day of multiple dev posts clearing up misunderstandings and answering questions, and yet again fishers get squat.
If you wanted to convince us that you don't give a chocobo's bottom about fishing SE, you're doing a fantastic job.
They either have some super awesome surprise in store for us or they've just been blowing it off. We know we're a minority around here but thats JUST THE POINT. We will ALWAYS be a minority. So why aren't they listening/responding to those of us that actually love this part of the game. Who are they trying to please here? Yoshi, who obviously doesn't give two mouse poops about gathering? or us, who sometimes login in ONLY to fish? Maybe if we clamored for "PvP Fishing" Yoshi would take notice ><;
If the delay was a positive one they would've come out and said "hey we delayed fisher because <insert awesome feature> is being added." Since all we're getting is "fisher is delayed" it is most likely not a good thing. :\
It's just infuriating over all. Early on botany got a good chunk of gameplay demo in one of the early live letters. It made sense at the time to not talk much about fishing because none of the other classes were getting a lot of screentime.
Then the live letter questions started, and I made sure to ask about fishing. We got nothing. Live letter after live letter with nothing. Then they said that all classes would be available in phase 3, because all of the cities would be. In the latest live letter the fishing questions got a combined Like rating over well over 200. Considering the reps specifically asked us to Like posts we wanted to have noticed, this should have warranted at least Yoshi looking into the camera and saying, "Fishing" before moving on with the broadcast. But still nothing.
I'm sure most of you felt the same as I did however. Despite the snub, phase 3 was going to start on the 14th. We'd see it then. The day after the live letter the DoL page was updated and we got a look at the Fisher AF, which spread pretty well, and overall there was a sense of optimism I found. But now no Fisher in phase 3. Despite us expecting it, talking about it, asking about it for months now, they decide to let us know in the most insulting way possible.
One tiny little footnote buried deep inside a giant document about upcoming plans.
The worst part of it all is that despite the talking and questions and expectations and pleading, we've never had any sort of community rep or dev response in any of our threads. It's infuriating that we got snubbed for at least two live letters in a row, only to be denied the chance to play the class during phase 3, AND to top it all off neither the devs nor Yoshi seem to care enough to put two minutes aside to talk to us.
We're not being silent about this. It's clear to see the anger in the fishing threads here. It's impossible that they're missing the uproar about this, so it's clear to see that ignoring us was a conscious decision on their part. We're being ignored, and there's nothing we can do about it.
To any community rep reading this, we are still being civil. We're still keeping all discussion to a small number of threads. No spamming is happening, no personal attacks being made. But we're angry, and while we aren't demanding a response, I think at this point a response would be well deserved. We've waited long enough, and this latest decision requires some sort of explanation.
I couldn't have said it better Llen, bravo!
Except that I'm not okay with waiting. All of us fishers are tired of waiting. This isn't at all about the various other features. This thread, and the others like it, are entirely about fishing, and we're just plain tired of waiting for information. I think at this point we've all accepted that it won't be in phase 3 because it's entirely out of our hands. What we do expect is some form of communication. Personally I'd even take "We're not allowed to talk about it!" right now, because it would be better than the nothing they've given us so far.
For what it's worth, I won't even be touching phase 3. I was going to dedicate my entire phase 3 play time to testing the new fishing and trying to see past my rose-tinted nostalgia about 1.0's mechanics and see the good in the new system. If there was no good, I was prepared to leave excellent feedback about it. However, SE won't let me fish. Since that's the case, I can't be bothered. Everything else that I might enjoy in the game, I'd like to leave to phase 4 or launch. Discovering the new La Noscea? Launch. Figuring out how to play Monk? Launch. Getting back together with my beloved linkshell? Launch.
That's just a piss poor attitude. The game is still in a testing state and a large portion of the game assets are getting dumped into the game in Phase 3. Just because the one thing you want to play most won't be available, the other 99.99% of the game needs to be bug checked.
I want to fish just as much as the next person, but there's obviously not much we can do about it at this point. There's many other things I like about the game besides fishing, so I'm going to do my utmost to try to break those to ensure they get fixed and the game at launch is as polished as it can be.
You're right, and it makes me a bad tester. The truth is though that I find other aspects of the game boring. As it is, the game won't miss one tester who has their tail in a knot because fishing isn't available.
EDIT: My willpower isn't that strong anyway, so there's actually a good chance I log on regardless. I already took the weekend off. Though that was to fish.
For what it's worth Fishu, you'll get your 1.0 character back in phase 3 along with all your stuff.
So you can look at your luminary rod in your inventory and maybe equip some of your old fishing gears. Also you can count your fish hoard to make sure everything is still intact. :P
As far as I remember, I had around 25 or 30 stacks of young herring. I'm curious if they'll have a use if Hamlet is changing.
I'm still dreading the thought that fisher might have been turned into a class for people who don't feel like playing the game. Crafting was already a perfectly good way to spend time while waiting for a pt to gather or some such...
A friend of mine suggested that maybe they're holding off on fishing so people don't have extra time to get a bot ready for launch? Who knows. I was bummed that it wasn't going to be included. My fishing wasn't very high in 1.0, but I was looking forward to trying out the new system.
The impression that I get, is that they are making it more for the people who want to fish because they like fishing and want it to be "realistic". *shrug*
My attitude has been up and down in regards to fishing but there is no way I am going to let (not being in phase 3) that ruin the experience. I can understand if people just want to wait for opening day and not have any spoilers though.
I have to get on though because I am having FF withdrawal that only 14 can fix anymore ;) plus just the fact I can get out of Gridania finally is welcome.
Patience.. and if fishing turns out to be utter sh*t then I'll be the one leading the angry mob for Yoshi's head lol.
In case you haven't seen this yet, GamerEscape (fan site/wiki/forum) will be interviewing Yoshi-P at E3. They are asking for suggestions for interview questions. A very popular request is to ask about fishing. People may want to go "up-vote" that question, or suggest any other question for the interview.

I am glad to see these threads are still active and LlenCoram's passion about fishing still hot. I too have begun to feel like my lore questions were being ignored while devs seem to be actively answering questions in other threads less than a few day after they were created. It is possible that the devs who monitor these forums simply don't know the answers to these questions? Although, if that is the case... a simple "I don't know but I'll find out for you" would be nice... but I know they're busy as hell right about now.
I hope we all get the answers we seek! And I too have been watching Gamer Escapes E3 with great interest. I upvoted all the fishing questions and got loreseekers on other forums to upvote mine. Let's hope for straight answers!!!
Sounds awesome to me, mini games are for chumps. (lv50 fisher here and I hated every minute of it)
I clicked LIKE on all of your posts, Fisher Representative LL Coram (have fun with your new title!). I would have liked them five thousand times, if it were possible to do so. As for the fishing questions on the Gamer Escape site, I upvoted all of them as well. It looks like fishing is receiving a lot of upvotes on there. We might actually get some answers in the next few days. I'll keep my fish fingers crossed (Look, fish humor)!
Llen you ARE our Fisher representative. We all <3 you and thank you for putting so much work into advocating for all fisher-kind! You also give such perfect expression to our collective hopes and frustrations.
fishing was horrible in 1.0 took forever to even start. no way can SE make it worse, i hope.
Suddenly, pressure O_O. Thanks for the support, but we're all in this together! Hopefully we can make ourselves heard. And Indira, it's fine if you didn't like 1.0's fishing, but the fact is what small amount of details we've received on ARR's fishing doesn't paint a pretty picture. Here's hoping you're right and that it will be better.
We got your back Llen.^ ^ Incidentally, notice anything missing from the classes icons in this picture ><; ugh.

I'm not too worried anymore about this actually. The Fisher class is under the list of classes on the main site, and they've announced that fishers will have their own gathering log. The Fisher icon missing from the gathering icons was one of the concerns, but if that's being addressed, I'm sure it's simply because the class is so unfinished that they haven't even put the icons in game yet.
It would also explain why they're not giving it to us in phase 3.
I noticed it was missing also, but since it made it to the classes list on the site, I'm a lot less worried about that. STILL worried though that the class will be all about preparation before fishing (bait, rod, location, weather, moon phase, whatever), and not at all about the fishing itself (potentially full-out 'may as well go AFK' crap).
I wonder what they mean by they're trying to minimize focus on the "value" of individual fish. I hope at least they're still tied to recipes, and it's not just "Hey guys, I totally just caught a 32cm crawfish!" *clicks discard to free up the inventory slot*
Really disappointing news. It was a GATHERING CLASS. You can't just take that back and say "oh well now it's about the experience of bonding with nature. The point was to GATHER ITEMS to MAKE GIL.
Not every fish needs to be a bank breaker. Ash branches don't sell for millions on Botanist. That's fine. That's not what we're asking for. SOME fish need to be rare and valuable. OR be used in rare and valuable recipes.
You can't just say "you're a gathering job, but you don't gather anything that makes real money."
I don't know if the video lagged or what, but he didn't get to finish answering the question about fishing.
From what he did say, it does sound like they are making it into more of a mini-game.
It was patchy but the main, and only, emphasis seemed to be on fighting RMTs...I didnt hear anything new about FSH at all...
They still told us nothing about how Fishing will really work! And wtf, why design a class for the express purpose of being not RMT friendly?? AAAARGH!!! So... Confirmed? Fisher = Useless hobby class?
