So much hate for Tera on these forums lol. Tera was always fated to be F2P from the get-go, even in Korea. The devs wanted to release it as such and even said so back in 2007 but the sub model was still powerful due to WoW. Aside from that, NA Tera's Executive Producer has stated that he wanted Tera to be F2P before it launched in the US so it was only a matter of time.

SE is adamant about keeping FFXIV as P2P but don't fool yourselves into thinking F2P isn't an option they "might" consider. Yoshi-P has said so himself that F2P isn't entirely off the table in a previous interview but that SE's main focus is of course, the sub model.

Some of the comments over the gameplay and what they perceive as garbage from Tera and even 1.0 really give me a chuckle. 1.0 was garbage to me yet I still gladly payed and played until shortly before 1.23 since it did have it's decent moments.

Actually after a little digging around, a game i would be worried about is PSO2 that is to launch early this year... free 2 play, good graphics... true i don't know all about the game but from what i read it's actually good.

I noticed I got a email from enmasse this morning. They put 6 days on my expired Tera account. For shits and giggles I'm downloading it again to play a few days till I get bored again. Was a pain in the ass to get the launcher to work, tons of people have same issue.

Is it worth to try?

I say yes, it has a unique combat system that you won't see anywhere else in a MMORPG. There's a free trial for new players. I'm not sure how it long it lasts. Says free trial is unlimited, go figure. From what I read Tera is official F2P is sometime in February.

They giving me Legacy Status in Tera... it's actually called "Founder" there lol.

Now I have Founder+Legacy Status. All you other Legacy members are below me :p.

Enmasse wants the player's money through the purchase of game currency and elite subscriptions, but they are not putting much effort into a real relaunch like SE is. I'm pretty sure in Tera there will be a short influx of new players then it will die out again.

I actually advise against trying Tera out, but its going to be F2P anyways so you wont be wasting any money on it now at least lol. You'll be madly disapointed with the end game theme.

I downloaded Tera and played a few hours. I think I'll play Morrowind again. LOL

I don't suggest that game to my rl friends. I do want them to try FFXIV:ARR. :o

I think most people is misinterpreting my original post, I'm not saying I'm worried about SE planning on making ARR F2P, I'm talking about the mindset of the US/EU consumer base, which is rejecting any P2P mmo's currently.

I played Tera and a lot of other mmo and I know why they are becoming free to play, but there have been so many lately, and with the initial fiasco of XIV it may be that the consumers won't eve bother anymore to purchase any new MMO's feeling their investment won' be worth it, not even letting he game a chance because they assume how it will become.

It's good for SE to provide an open beta so everybody ca try it as a marketing scheme, but thy should give a unlimited free trial till lvl 20 or so like WoW does to convince the reluctant customers to see that the game is actually great.

you think people are not like that just cause they pay subscription?
there would just me more of everyone if it was f2p, and it's just that it's the whiners that are heard the most, so the more players, the more whining you get. but they will make up same % of population regardless if it's p2p or f2p.

Before going to work I created my character in Tera. First thing I saw was trash talk in general chat mostly complaining about Elin race, this is a good sign of a healthy F2P game :p. So I created an Elin character and left it dancing in front of the first quest NPC.

We can go by SE's estimates. They gave start date and then week estimates for each phase and interphase. I overlaid the shortest and longest estimates:

It starts mid-Feb and each box is one week. The start of the month name marks the start of its month. Of course all of this is subject to change. There is no launch target that will force them to release a game that's not ready.

It's no big surprise really imo that all those games go f2p...
What do you do? Level up, Raid till you get best gear, and then PvP until you hit boredom.

Imo, that is the reason ffxi has such longevity, because it's such a long way with so many things to complete.
Multiple Jobs, multiple gear sets per job.. You're never really done gearing up, there's always a goal to chase.

At least FFXIV got multiple jobs.
Can you guys imagine if you only could pick 1 class? We'd be done so quickly and left with no goals...

You do know other MMOs give players plenty of alts right? Multiple jobs is still possible, not on the same character obviously as this is basically a FF MMO exclusive still, so you can still stretch out the longevity of content the same way. And to add to that, there is quite a lot of gear that gets bound to your account so you can still swap it between alts.

That makes me curious. I wonder how many people will actually use all their extra alt space in ARR considering there is no real need to make an alt. There is no big stat disparity between the races like in FFXI so the only 3 reasons would just be aesthetics, inventory space, and RP purposes. I personally have 3 accounts and I use 2 of them as alts since they are walking storage bins for me (and extra nuking/healing power for random "solo" things).

I don't think SE being as they are would let a MMO with the Final Fantasy name go to f2p I think they would shut the game down first before letting hit rock if nothing more then to save face and try to make a new one in hopes its better

if the game stay how it was in the alpha is game over for SE, is boring nothing fun and IKNOW!!! is alpha test dont need to tell me thats why im waiting for beta to see what have change but the game so far is boring as hell the battle system sux, it didnt improve from 1.0 i think i had more fun in the battle system in 1.0 then in the alpha test so hope SE dont fuck this one up or many gonna be disappointed and the game is gonna be over
