no need to pray btw... just sleep 30min
No, no, and no. Good day.
No thanks.
I want to know why my Flame Lt. spear is better than my Gae Bolg?
if people rather work for their relic by all means go ahead just toss the weapon lol but for others id b a nice gift
But WHY? WHY do you want something that has a QUEST, be it with luck or skill, which in turn is at the present the STRONGEST WEAPON FOR IT'S JOB, for FREE? Are you that against working HARD or TOWARDS obtaining a weapon? MUST you have everything you want GIFTED to you? Well, sorry, honey, the world doesn't work like that.
Someone who sweeps toilet floors shouldn't expect to get the same pay rate as someone who works in a court.
If you want a gift, show that you deserve it. Playing 1.0 doesn't show it, by the way - we already have our unique items and outside-game acknowledgement. Please don't bring that dead-horse topic back.
This is just the same as people asking for something from nothing...
What can I say that hasn't been said?
Oh, I know...
RELICS AREN'T FOR EVERYONE.
You don't want to put the effort into it? Go for one of the alternatives. There are plenty to choose from. Since you lack the time, you wouldn't be needing uber leet gear for end-game anyway, would you?
And yes, I'm being needlessly sarcastic and confrontational, but the "gimme because I want" attitude some people display here...
lol im not against it at all but Just one weapon would b fine under certain circumstances but even if they did do this the concept wouldnt b anything new ffxi did it every year to people who didnt work for nor deserve relics and such either way idc cause ill end up getting mine regardless lol
If someone payed for an ifrit run it's because it didn't have a good group to run with in the 1st place and second w/e he/she did in the fight was good enough to win, think of it as a member of your own ls who isn't that good but regardless you help. The gil is a tool for those lazy players. < I wouldn't accept gil for that neither pay for such an easy fight trolol
That's still not a justification. I would eventually end up getting 999 million gil, so I should get it now?
And what circumstances are we under? Past the final save date? Oho....in that case, why should we keep our borrowed weapons?
And what does FFXI have to do with FFXIV? They are two different games - why should one borrow a tactic like that from the other?
I still see no justification of your OWN attempts or efforts to be able to justify why you deserve a free relic.
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<was this really necessary???>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
now my head hurts. lol
No i dont want to keep my relic. yes its gorgeous, and im envious ill lose it come 2.0, but i get to beat the fuck out of loads of monsters while not looking so gimp!
enjoy them ppl for the 12's sake.. my gods... :P
and this became my 200th post... damnit! what a waste
I play an MMO to earn stuff
I don't want hand outs
That is all
lol @ this topic even existing. I hear WoW had private servers where you can get max gear when you log on. Sounds like a better choice for some of you who want the best things in game handed to you for free.
You're not on a moral high horse if you don't want to keep it, but you're talking down everyone that would keep it. That's what what makes your post so unlikable.
It's really laughable that you're talking about "earning" equipment, when the only equipment that you can really earn is the one bought with gil, if you craft/meld it yourself or with friends. In a game where drops like Darklight are so hard to drop, with countless hours on my back with a static doing at least 6 runs of 5-chest daily, and I only have an Eyepatch to show for it, yet some other player will go there and get it on their first run ever, while being carried over by other players. You call that earning gear? Wow, guess you must know something I don't because this game is LUCK, when it comes to earning equipment. Relic yes, you may have to work on Ifrit Extreme, but that's about it.
I enjoy working hard for my equipment, did in FFXI for many years and so do now, here. I don't think that for cherishing the illusion that we might keep the relics (spoiler alert: we won't) and calling out on people that say they would throw them away I'm acting as such a jerk. I've seen this kind of entitled attitude before, and it is really disgusting.
I don't get defensive about "people" disagreeing, I get upset with seeing so much crap written by the same poster, over and over again. You're narcisistic and you keep feeding yourself on your own dellusional world, and your signature proves it. I hope you keep posting, because everytime you do, it gets even more amusing. Anyway, I'm done with this petty argument, next time if you actually want to have a decent and actual discussion, don't open it with name calling. (I was being retorical with the jerk snip, but guess that flew over your head)
The Kitten of War is wondering why this thread is still going.....

But seriously, I'm glad SE decided to let the unwashed masses such as myself play around with relics for a few days. Made it easier for me to decide which one I would try and complete when 2.0 drops (I don't have the kind of free time some of you crazy kids have, so 1 is probably as far as I'll go).
I hope they make the weapons & the quest to obtain them more epic though.... I'm really not overly impressed by the weapons tbh. They are extremely nice, don't get me wrong.... But I completed a relic in XI (Amanomurakumo), equipping that GKT for the first time and running out with friends in tow to test out Tachi: Kaiten was just such an awesome feeling. Hell I even loved tagging along with friends from other linkshells to see them test out new relics in XI just to see the new weaponskills. These relics in XIV just don't have that same type of feeling.
But who knows, maybe when they make them upgradable the unique weaponskills will come back. I'll work on the quest regardless in 2.0, just so I can say I completed at least one them. But I do hope they bring back that epic feeling of power you had when you got one in XI.
But enough of my rant, let's summarize this topic;
1. Guy #1 wants to keep his temporary relic even though there is no chance in hell this will ever happen.
2. Other guys come in and also want to keep theirs.
3. Even more guys come in and are outraged that guy #1 and friends would even dare to suggest such a thing.
4. All these guys start a pointless argument & general internet forum hijinks & shennanigans insue.
5. Guy #1 more than likely sits back and smirks while stroking his evil genius goatee and looking over his handiwork.
6. The Kitten of War ponders what the purpose of it all was?
I thank SE for allowing us to play with relics. I think that was very kind and honestly sort of unexpected.
THANK YOU SQUARE ENIX
Now, I wonder if they regret do this because of all the arguments it's seemed to have caused.
I asked a GM jokingly for my relic since we weren't saving. My wish came true. I thanked him after the patch as well and he said "you're wel - ..wait what?" :p funny guy.
But to beg them to keep it. That's something I never thought of doing and personally think that wouldn't be okay. :/
Besides. Think. The "final" save was November 1st. It's just not going to happen.
Again, thank you SE, and more importantly, thank you Yoshi-P for all that you've done. :)
I never said the entire quest was based on RNG, though. Doesn't matter how many steps are that are actually RNG, they're enough to be a bottleneck. I spent 14 hours one day in Aleport, and only saw 2 seals drop. 14 hours of non-stop, only resting on the 15 minutes of cooldown. If that's not enough RNG for you then I don't know what is.
I just don't agree with the snippet of people "earning" things or not.
I'm sorry but are you sure you even replied to the right person in the first place? Most of what you're saying has NO bearing to what I said whatsoever on this post and your previous.
Where did I talk down to people? Where did I even talk about anything other than "I do not want to keep the free relics" in the first place?
The f**k are you even talking about on the rest of your post? Narcissistic? Delusional world? Seriously, what does this have anything to do with this thread? As for my sig, I put that there because I respect who said it and I'm not the only person with a sig like it. To call me Narcissistic over that is an insane assumption.
And as for being petty and insulting, let's review your last post here:
Saying my "reasoning is flawed" because I want to earn my gear, telling me I wouldn't throw it away even after I stated twice I would, telling me I'm just saying it because I crave for attention and YOU were the one who hoped you weren't coming off as a jerk, I just told you that you did and lastly you telling me not to post what I think. All because I disagreed that we should keep our free relics and stated I would not keep mine if I had the choice. To put simply, WTF dude.
I don't remember saying the RNG segments aren't time consuming. I've been doing Hamlet since it came out, but due to the fact that I nearly pugged my entire way through I just finished my seals two weeks prior to shutdown. But the quest itself is hardly comprised of RNG. The meld, and the beastcoin drops if you want to get nitpicky.
I sure as hell didn't earn my Relic by killing Ifrit Extreme. Nope. That fight is a joke.
Too many people crying about temporary relics. It's not like we get to keep them and no amount of pleading will allow you to keep temporary items.
Mod's please lock or deleted this thread, its a waste of space.
The only way that i see keeping the relics we get this week is making useless soon after 2.0 and then make some better weapons, like Relics 2.0. Or maybe convert the relics of who got their relic on the right way to an HQ or a relic 2.0 that is really superior to relics on 1.0
We're not keeping the relics from under our beds, get it through your thick skulls and let this stupid thread die already.
No offense. :P
Clearly you need to work on your reading comprehension and don't jump to conclusions. I didn't say you couldn't post what you think, clearly you can and should do that. I said you shouldn't post what you think people want to read or what will make you look "nice", but your actual opinion about it. But then again, I think we will just have to agree to disagree. I'm too old to be having fights on the internet with people I don't even play with.
That snippet to earning things or not was directed to Amy, and what I mentioned was just an example of RNG. If you read my posts again, I did mention how Ifrit was the only part where it really required skill and good team mates.
Months of hard work given away to people for free, how can you not see why people would be angry? Obviously in this situation it's temporary, so it makes no difference. However if the situation was reversed and they were obtainable permanently it would be a massive screw you to everyone who put in the time.
I'm really curious to how hard you tried on the relic quest, or if you got it done or even flagged. Also your concept is a little skewed, RNG actually makes it so you have to work harder for things. Countless hours of AV/CC for Darklight drops - Thats hard work. You think the people with a good amount of darklight just got it out of sheer luck? Or because they did AV/CC as much as they could, same thing with the Seals in hamlet. Heck me and my LS spent hours farming up mats before hamlet and then hours doing hamlet until everyone got their seals. We worked hard for it, very hard actually. Weapon melds? Rng sure... But also a bit of work unless you have the gil to be lazy. I leveled up my BTN and ALC just to make my whm relic, worked my lala butt off farming Trillium and doing what I could with every synth. I eventually made my own double melded Alkuaraps(sp?) and turned that in. AV/CC 17 minute runs... You think that is pure luck? I hardly doubt it the only bit of RNG that can hamper that is Coincounter spamming AI or Marshal spamming cures BUT even with those set backs the 17 minute runs are all a matter of skill. Same thing the 15 DH run (Which is super easy), Faction quest, Garuda, Ifritx all fights you have to put effort into not to mention Spiritbonding your relic... which if you do it solo thats a few hours of dedicated killing or if some people help you thats like 3 hrs per person.
People like you are really the bane to modern MMO's because you don't realize how big of a role RNG plays on the game and how balanced it keeps things. How RNG makes your hard work show. Because when the odds are 1% sure there MAY be some luck involved but it also takes dedication because statistically you'd have to do the w/e you are doing 100 times to just see one.
Eh, I guess people will have differing views on things. But it just seems that you are posting to post as your post itself was going around in circles and just ended with a general insult to the person you were replying to. Kind of sad :C
^^ fixed it for you.
Battling RNG is time consuming and frustrating, but there is nothing difficult about it. Personally, I'll stick to melding for good gear until RNG and speed runs are removed or the reliance on them is reduced, simply for the fact that with melding the only frustrated player I have to deal with is myself. I hate doing dungeons when everyone is completely frustrated that every win isn't a speed run, because one little thing went wrong and reduced the drop rate. Some (a lot of) players can be complete douchebags when they don't get what they want.
Hi Lavieh, not sure if you read all my posts, as I said earlier I only considered RNG Hamlet and the dmeld, as I specified twice on my aforementioned posts. I did flag the quest. In fact, I was gonna work on MNK first, but got lucky on a 1/1 Astrolabe doublemeld (that I did myself, and I'm really happy about). I busted my ass for a week to get my last 8 seals, going to the point of not even sleeping the night before getting my last one from GB. Got my three ores in a night and got two salts right before save.
I'm not going to get defensive by the fact that you call me the bane of MMOs, because I think you didn't get my point at all. I didn't complain about RNG, I just said it was a bottleneck. I've had my share for many years of RNG in FFXI, and I dealt with it just fine. I'm aware of the difficulty of the relic quest. I helped my friends before I had my doublemeld (or had even thought of going for relic). Basically I've done all the steps of relic (even helped in some Ifrit X runs) without needing them. It was fun and enjoyable seeing my friends achieve such feats.
We're not keeping the weapons, I just don't see why people attack people that want them to be kept. Even if people got to keep them (we won't), I don't see why people that want the challenge could just do the quest, and toss it before picking the "real" one up. But all this is silly because no, we won't get to keep them and no amount of whining will make us keep our tooth-fairy relics.
