Well.. Games are suppose to be fake, not real life action :p. even FFXIV 1.0 :P. ( not sure if i'm making sense but that just the way I see it). The only thing that's real is you visually seeing the game, and you inputting the commands to the character, nothing more than that.

Fake gold I was referring to the circular disk with gems sticking out of it for the aether camp. Its colored like it's gold.. but colored in such a way I think its fake gold. Its a weak yellow color.

I know what you are trying to say though :P.

Well I've seen the one from the special talk session, I like that aether crystal (its a different model though). And I did admit it could be washed video quality :P.

About that picture with the Hyur and the Aetherythe behind him. To me that looks very similar to the GFX that is usually on PS3 games.
There is no way that picture is from on PC and high settings.

I'll take gameplay over graphics any day. You can have the prettiest looking piece of crap in the world and in the end, its still a piece of crap. no matter how "bad" these graphics are it still looks 100% better than FFIV but i had way more fun playing that then i did the 1.0 launch of FFXIV.

The lighting is what makes it look better, but really the textures and models don't look as good, you don't have to sacrifice gameplay for worse graphics in this case. They could have kept the same model for most things and added the lighting to it.

so many epople on this thread are making ti out to be so atrocious that it will render the game unplayable. i just think its slightly over reacting considering none of us have actually even played it for ourselves. but hey, dont let me stop people from jumping to conclusions.

It was up early this morning ( I didn't wake up till like 4hrs aftre that, by then it was taken down =() but the people that did see it claim to see choppiness things of that nature, ( which was why they probably took it down because of a tech issue). All the other Gameplay related stuff, didn't have that problem at all, which makes it seem like a tech issue, ( and probably they didn't want to put it up yet).

But yeah, that's about the jist of it.

The image http://i.imgur.com/EXoQM.jpg looks pretty bad. Like a 15 year old game... I expect a Final Fantasy game released in 2012/2013 to look better than that.

I'm hoping there was a problem with it as the other images I have seen of characters look pretty darn good.

Nothing can repel Rokien, He'll say he hates it a million times over, and he'll still be on the forums ( ranting about it and paying for the game at the same time). Why pay for a game you have so many problems with. Which also makes me question his judgement from time to time. But I know Rokien is a good person though, just sometimes he can take things overboard.

Too bad SE isnt good enough to live up to Rokiens standards. maybe he should go make his own MMO to show them how its done.

Or it may not be gold at all it could be a brass type that has less than 33% Zinc like Gilded Brass or a brass Manufactured with Calamine, it may not even be brass it could be nordic gold as well despite the name there is no gold used in it manufacturing.

well then i'm going to do the right thing and with hold my judgment of the game until i have a chance to play it myself and can tinker with the settings. here is a screenshot i took when i lowered the graphics for the current version of FFXIV. it just goes to show that level of detail can actually make a slight difference.

I'm thinking, like someone already suggested, that the screenshot being passed around is from ps3. Because honestly my FFXIV right now looks way better. And the screenshots / live video's I've seen in the past from SE of ARR are really awesome looking, so there is a huge disconnect that being on ps3 would explain.

I'm thinking the ps3 is being a real task for them. Perhaps they should rely on a blur like dark souls does.

(if you have a semi modern computer your computer is stronger then a ps3, its quite old now)

that depends on what type of card is on your computer. I bought my computer brand new about a year ago but it had on onboard 250meg video card and a crappy psu so i had to upgrade both

There are some Cell Shading techniques being employed in the advance phases of the engine so that may give the appearance of the game looking Cartoonie, the advance phases being Specular Lighting, Ambient Occlusion, shadowing maybe in the AA phase.

why'll the game does look slightly cartoonie st least its not using full blown cell shading like SW:TOR AION and many other games i cant for extended periods of time, something with the cell shading just makes me hurl after awhile.

If you check the specs of a console they are actually really low. Its all the OS and crap that people install that slows down their computer. Consoles do not have that issue. But the ps3 video card is also 256 mb so your not really that far behind lol.

lol i wasn't and I shelled out money to buy a new one AND a new psu. Funny thing was the first one I bought, video card that is, was a better one of course and was 1 gig and such then i put it in all happily (didn't know a damn thing that the psu was shitty) went to grid and BAM comp shut down... kept doing that to me I thought it was the issue with the video card. took it back got a higher end one the amd 6750 hd radeon shelled out about $175 for it and it didn't even work... found out the psu was too low and couldn't give it enough power and wasn't connecting right. so i had to go out and shell out another $80 bucks for a new psu

consoles these days are nothing short of small scale super computers, whats really limiting consoles in there domination of PC gaming isn't that they cant do it better because the would destroy pc gaming if only giving the chance.

Nvidia and Ati wont let that happen if you think restrictive GPU memory sizes are something console makers want you'd be dead wrong, then there's all the hardware lockouts that restrict a good portion of the systems performance for security only to have it circumvented shortly after. if both of these things dissapeard tomorrow the PC gaming market would be non existent.

Yeah computers can be a pia, they are complicated lol.

I had my powersupply do something similar to that before. So annoying I thought it was my graphics card first because it happened when I played games. But turned out the graphics card needed more power and the power supply was getting too old for that kind of run.

Took me a few buys and returns to figure it out XD.

You are mistaken. Consoles are weak computers. They are however dedicated to particular tasks, which makes them efficient at those tasks.

Every part in my computer will smoke any console out now or coming out (the next gen ones that are confirmed). And while a console is limited I can do whatever the hell I want on my computer.

( I dont have an absorbantly priced computer, consoles have the specs for the price they are at, they are just efficient because they are focused )
