Arcanist and Summoner artwork

I think the summoner attack system will be something similar what 'Leon D.S. Gehste' from 'Star Ocean the Second Story' does with his book invoking monsters from within the book to make special attacks to the enemy instead of the old summoner system that had a pet on the side half of the time.

News to me, I can debuff most bosses just fine except for ones with strong affinity for an element, i.e it's impossible to debuff Shiva with Paralyze due to it being aligned to Ice and you can't silence enemies that are castey types or that'd simply make fights too easy lol.

Debuffs in XIV works just fine too on most things, the problem remains with their duration -- it's way too short in some instances.

I want a tonberry to tank for me, not carbuncle.

This'll depend on whether they'll be dumb and implement stuff like Sleep and Paralyze as enfeebles vs using Attack Down, Defense Down, +Damage Taken, -Attack Speed, and so on. If they focus on the latter rather than the former, make sure that landing the debuffs is not close to impossible without extreme stat stacking, and scale things accordingly, I think debuffs would be fine. I'd be keeping a closer eye on Arcanist and SMN's DoT component, and hope that the DoT component + pet DPS puts them on par with the likes of MNKs, BLMs and DRGs.

So if Arcanist's use books now instead of tech-staves, than what class is Urianger?

sorry i do disagree enfeebling in 11 was awesome. im proud to say i was one of the few rdm on siren that could effectivly cat silence on kirin before 80+ cap

It wasn't in game but it wasn't player speculation either. The devs stated the idea behind Arcanist was a support based mage that set magic AoE traps on the terrain. And Urianger's tech-stave was listed in the .dats as an Arcanist weapon.

So they're not gonna address it at all? Urianger is now a mysterious class we can't play just like Thancred and his knife-throwing? lame.

You should go check out the arcanist's guild

Plus there was an NPC from the alchemist quests that wore the staff and was from the arcanist guild.

The arcanist kind of reminds me of Yuuko from xxxHolic.

I think they made the right choice by allowing Summoner's to use part of the primal's powers. Different summons could have been interesting but its just not FF. FFXII didn't feel right with its Zodiacs.

If they're wanting to give FFXIV a more Final Fantasy feel, its good that they're sticking to FF traditions.

I was slightly worried over the fact that they would only be able to summon carbuncle, but since there's two different types of it, it allows for a bit more customization. The DoT abilities are of course welcomed because no other classes can really do it at this point. I'm glad that even though we can't summon the primals themselves we'll be able to summon this so called "essence", since you can sort of treating as if you're summoning the primal.

So you want that everybody who haven't choosed the arcanist in the char creation menu should do first a quest to get the permission to use a book (like in FF XII)? Everyone who have choosed Arcanist during char creation would have the permission from the start.
But don't do it only for Arcanist, but for every class. You begin as THM and then you need to get a permission (buy it or quest it) to use another weapon type. Each weapon type get a own permission key item.

No because those are the base classes they're wanting arcanist to be an "advanced" class but it's not going to be one. The advanced versions are the Jobs that stem from the classes.

However I get what you mean that's why I keep telling said person it's not going to happen

The first seven - the old seven - are normal jobs. They're common and not special in there own right. The new two can be closed door guilds - as they have been - and therefor you need to get accepted in. (Therefor getting your first book to level.) Thats what I want. The quest to get your first book doesn't even need to be extravagant. Just something.

I don't want people to first buy the game, then see the two new classes and select them at the same time the mass media of old 50's do. New players - not to be mean to them - should have to use the old ones to be able to play jobs we already know everything about. Set X skills, level X subs to level, these are the stat forumla's, ext.

Also, think about it in FFXI terms. Would you like to see someone start a character and BAM I'm a summoner! Oh hey they gave me every summon too! Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

Or, like samurai. They made your level 1 weapon integrated into the quest. Now I'm not saying I want something as complex, but similar. You need to earn your first weapon. But buy it for 840 gil like all the others.

That's... pretty dumb. Why should anyone at level 50 have any priority over anyone just starting out, especially since restarting the whole game was the point behind 2.0 in the first place? Way to expand the community there, buddy. How would starting out with Arcanist be ANY different than starting as a Conjurer or a Marauder? What sage lore is required before someone can enter the lofty peaks that are the Arcanist guild?

You need to be lv 30 Arcanist and another class level 15 first to be a Summoner

People. Gotta love how thick they can be sometimes. I give up trying to argue this point, and just hope SE doesn't give books away(And whatever the second class weapon will be) willy nilly...

Unless SE only releases Art like wow did for Death Knight. It wont matter if they just give it to you or you have to do a question to unlock it. All the people who have the DoW and M will pick it to level it up. And alot of new people will most likly do the Monkey see monkey do, new player " Oh every seems to be leveling this job Art must be a good class!" /goes to get it.

im all fine with the arcanist (Carby yuhu*)

personally im a bit anxious about the summoner job itself when looking at the artwork... i dont want to summon an essence ifrit etc. what does it mean? like in FFXI having a "small" version of the primes to summon..

does it mean we "summon" them as a one hit attack? that would be such a disappointment to me :/



seriously i thought now.. like the others, that we will be able to summon other pets than the primes.. like Ixali for thunder, fenrir for darkness, Balthear for fire, tonberry or what the heck ever.


im really some kind of worried about how the summoner job will be like... because i am a petcaster fetishist, so i need real pets.. and not just one hit attack summons :/

Um, Balthier? I don't know about summons cause I only know him as a character from Final Fantasy XII. :p But just wait we haven't seen gameplay yet so...yeah.

Please let it be optional among other summonable pets. I really don't like Carby at all.

he's not optional for arcanist or summoner

just thinking about summoner will be useless if it dots & debuffs since mobs die in a couple seconds atm hopefully mobs can take a bit more in RR. they would only be useful on bosses lol.

Cait Sith was in the concept art for 2.0 so that's a possible pet for Arcanist.

Tonberries generally only have cloth robes. Also it would be kind of odd for Tonberry to be a summon when they moved past to making them enemies for the most part lol.

Dude, it would be just awesome to have Cait Sith be a summon. Maybe they should make a Moogle a summon too or even a Moomba?! lol

FF8 had Tonberry king as a summon. But does anyone know if Art/Summoner will be release on 2.0?
