Shutting down NA DCs would be a QoL upgrade at this point.
I bet harassment has gone up by 400% already.

bumping thread
Yep, still hoping that I'll get to play with my NA friends
I don't know, we already get enough pervs and trolls wandering or traveling to get their grove on, really don't need any more. People treat my world as the red light district, somewhere to go and get seedy before returning home and going to church.
People don't want NA<>EU travel just to go to Mateus of all places. It's way bigger than that little niche concern of yours. And people can already travel from 3 other data centers to there, as well as from elsewhere on Crystal, so what's 2 other data centers?
I would still like this as well.
YOSHI P, ADD FULL CROSS-REGION DC TRAVEL AND MY LIFE IS YOURS!
I would love for this to happen as well. I play on EU but have a ton of US friends whom have gotten back into the game and I would love to play with them with out having to either spend money or Time to level up Alts over there.
Also since the Game aren't region locked the Culture Clash thing is kinda redundant as EU and US players have been playing together since ARR as you can freely chose which server to play on. And speaking as an RP'er Many EU Rp'ers started on the US servers as they did have the biggest Rp communities (That was before a certain server turned into a Red Light District to put even Gold Shire in Wow to shame)
NA is just Europe with different accents. Europe/NA play together all the time in many other games from Call of Duty to other MMOs. I think there is no culture gap (I used to play Rainbow Six Vegas many years ago before Rb6 became the garbage of today, with many American and European players, good people and times).
Japan with NA/EU on the other hand I'd understand the hesitation. NA/EU servers will be more rowdy/obnoxious in the chat I'd imagine, and there are frequently in-game bands playing everything from FF themes to metal and pop (opposed to JP bands just playing FF themes - or so I've read). But also people will flock to JP servers to buy cheaper items, which might seem uncouth. On the other hand, there'll be other games with Western + Japanese players playing together on a server. And it would be neat to bridge that divide and let West/JP players hang out.
As for raid players piling on certain servers, there can probably be some behind the scenes tools added, or more filters to DR/PF and whatnot.
100% agree, need this travel please.
I understand cultural differences are an issue, but to that i have two arguments:
- No need to enable JP with EU or NA. Keep EU, NA and O connected without JP
- Cultural differences are where interesting things happen, it's good for multicultural engagement to happen, people can still pick up on rules and customs.
For example: i heard JP servers practice Savage raids in PF but progress in DF - i'm fine with that, i can adjust, it's easy. The inverse is always possible - JP players are free to come to EU and do braindead hector pf spam like the rest of the mongrels here.
This is actually a good thing for JP, it means people will come to their market and spend gil there to the income of JP players.
Im just sick of the pointless lockouts for server travel in general. It was fine before DT, and lets be honest the player count hasn't gone up.
Even though Steam is just an indicator and not totally reflective, I very much agree.
1. SE keeps pushing the narrative that FFXIV is "booming," when absolutely no it's not. If it is, WHY do they keep pushing "Returner" campaigns?
2. Another way to tell (yes is an estimate) is market board activity---and that's dropped significantly since I started around 3 years ago.
3. Aether mysteriously gets "congested" every time they release a patch now, and for most of the day they lock it down. Yet when you go in "off-hours," it's very small queue (1-5 people). Do they consider "30 players ahead of you in queue" to be "congested"? Because honestly, that's NORMAL as "a bit heavy." Even when we're under DDoS attacks and trying to get back in to our own non-Aether DC, the queue isn't breaking a thousand, or most of the time, more than 200. Considering that for the EW release, people routinely had well over 1000 in queue ahead of them, I think they've gone into overkill on "congestion," and labeled anything over 50, or even 30, as "congested."
4. FFXIV is still SE's big money-maker, and they struggle with all their other content to make profits. We know this. I think part of it is they fear people finding out FFXIV's average player base is shrinking will further negatively impact them, and reduce chances of new players joining (plus old ones returning).
5. Combine those two factors (too sensitive definition OF "congested," plus fewer players/new players), and yeah: we get told Aether is "congested" with every patch release (and for a long time after people have come in, done the new content, and dropped back again on playing).
In short, I believe the "congestion" is an artificial perception. Let's see them test it: STOP locking out Aether with the next patch update, and see what the log-in queues are REALLY like. If they're under 50-60 during peak hours, don't lock down that DC.
Hey SE,
Can you please enable this already so I can do Forked Tower with the NA discord servers when I run out of EU Discords to do it with?
Thanks!
Agreed. I can understand not allowing travel between those data centres and JP due to the cultural differences, but NA and EU should be no problem. I'd like to be able to participate in events on NA and play with the people there.
I do worry about further party finder consolidation, but hopefully the ping difference would prevent that.
Biggest disagree ever, have you tried progging ultimates? Waiting 5 effing hours to fill a stupid prog/clear party to die in phase 1 due random meme, disband and feel like you wasted 5 hours for nothing? If you mean EX trials and casual content sure thing primal have its niche scene, but for high end raiding primal is far from "alive", its a living corpse made from rpers and raiders leftover that couldn't join their respective servers in time. Look at primal during prime hours, really look at the dead, left-behind PF that Primal has and repeat your exactly same message. Primal used to have a very proud ultimate raiding scene years ago but since cross-dc exists it died so fast, your message (with all respect, really its just this topic really frustrates me because primal pf is dead) feels like an insult to someone like me who permanently lives in Aether as refugee, every time I have to go back to Hyperion and check the PF I want to cry.
People from NA and EU play in opposite regions frequently. You would still definitely have increased traffic to both of the main raiding DCs in each Region. Until they create a cross-DC party finder, allowing NA and EU to travel would just create more problems unless you have a static and can go to another DC to raid. Or they would have to restrict some DCs from cross-region travel
Bump. I would still rather much like full cross region DC Travel. Please implement it YoshiP. Thank you.
I will bet 1,000,000 Gil that the devs are not allowing this because everybody will DC travel to one place and leave all of the other DCs abandoned.
What they really need to do is switch to The World model where everybody is on the same server and zones spin up instances to balance the load. This would immediately make every zone feel alive and active. The cities would be bustling and it would be great. They have proven it works with the field operation zones such as Eureka and if they switch to a fully cloud DC as they tested, that could make this happen.
How would people feel about restricting cross-region travellers from entering high-end content?
It should prevent the consolidation of Party Finder, while still allowing you to go meet your friends and do casual stuff. The difference in ping can act as a deterrent, but would it be enough?
Uhhhh, I don't have any desire to play with NA thank you very much.
On top of that, latency is a thing.
I dunno, I'd really like to visit Balmung out of morbid curiosity
B-but culture differences!!
EU and NA barely has any culture differences, and a lot of EU players have an NA alt (and good amount of NA characters i know have an EU alt) it is not a JP/NA situation where there are actual real deep cultural and language barriers, I live in Europe, I main in NA, I play on EU...very little difference, and the cloud date centre test they did demolished the idea of culture differences as well
Anyone posting and panicking about "but NA drama!!" get off twitter, the average playerbase experience is the exact same as your average EU playerbase experience
no reason not to do it.
Because NA is larger and holds the lion's share of the internet's native English speakers. I've seen plenty of drama on the EU side actually.
And all that is irrelevant. If an EU player wants to play with an NA friend, they should be able to and acting like it's going to somehow bring all NA players over to EU suddenly is exaggerating. It's extremely common that people from NA and EU are friends, especially due to knowing a common language and it being easier to find English speakers from NA than anywhere else. Currently to do that they both have to visit Materia giving them a high ping.
A likely scenario would be people from EU visiting NA for RP events then returning to raid. In reverse, EU players on NA worlds may visit EU worlds to raid, then return to NA to play with friends.
Hey yknow if NA is suffering those DDoSes right now it would be pretty cool if we could DC travel to EU to avoid them in a place with better ping than OCE.
Haha, just kidding... unless?
I was thinking the same thing. If we could just go to EU and avoid the DDoS it would be better.
+1! You guys are welcome here anytime.
I don't want it. I'd rather they revert DC travel altogether. It's caused more problems then had benefits.
It's going to be even worse with two regions with very different cultures.
Besides, you can just create an alt on these regions if you want to chat. The only reason people might need is raiding, and the last thing we need is Aether being filled with 250ping players with different raid plans. Nevermind that Aether is full enough with 4 datacenters raiding there. 6 would be way too much.
Exactly. It will be mainly used to buy stuff from cheaper MBs, hang out, visit each other's houses, do casual content where +250ms ping is not the end of the world and RP. Most people are immediately crippled by a 100ms increase to their ping, nevermind 250ms going by the other user's example.
If a 150ms ping increase wasn't a problem, you'd see people going to raid to Materia with mixed region statics. It's not rocket science to think no one in EU will bother to go to NA to raid with +250ms, unless it is actually beneficial to them to do so (NA people playing in EU DCs may go to NA DCs to actually have less ping, but it will never be the other way around). Also, people would be able to travel to regions with active DF based on their timezone, making it easier for nocturnal players to fill queues.
(No longer directed at quoted user)
If some of you have a personal issue with the neighboring region's players, seriously, it won't affect you as much as you think it will, and the xenophobia over who uses raidplans, who uses Hector, who uses macros and who is a PF terrorist is just silly. We likely won't raid with you and you likely won't raid with us.
The pros far outweigh the cons. I, for one, would love to get rid of my NA and JP alts gathering dust... seeing them in the lodestone character list drives me insane for some reason.
Also i hate this term "culture clash" EU/NA isn't that different, I play on both, what culture clash? outside of different raid strats they are very very similar, this is not a JP vs NA situation. I say this to both sides both communities are very very similar the finger pointing saying "NA BAD!" or "EU BAD!" is just ridiculous to me, i play on both...they're basically the same in many many respects.
