Final fight too hard?

The game needs a balance of experienced and casual players. Alienating one or the other will pretty much result in a dead game. If this battle is too hard (I haven't tried it) then it will drive away the majority of players. I'm fine with adding a hard mode to storyline events and making the base content easier for less hardcore players. The more people who play, the better.

I thought it was challenging without being ridiculous. It took us a few hours worth to beat him. Most of our failures were due to lack of knowledge on the fight. Once we figured everything out, we got it done no problem.

Don't feel any reason to complain here.

My issue is destroying the meteors. You can't cast or do anything to them until they're about to hit due to the restriction on targeting enemies "too far" above or below you.

Anyway, that's pretty much what ya gotta do. There's no real "restriction" as people clearly are clearing this after they get a strategy down.

If you want to be safe, just have one BLM on top at all time to do meteor, any good BLM can solo it easy until the astral flow phase where Darnus teleports to top panel, that is where other BLMs needs to help.

Too hard

to get in. Server congestion.

I tried for hours and hours. kept dying and dying, failing and failing

im exausted now, mentally out of it

legitimately tried since this morning... im going to bed after this post

and dont blame my strategy. i read the eorzapedia article and everything, we all tried to form a strategy, and still died, even followed what other people said, did everything you all said in the thread

maybe it was a bad group combination i dont even know anymore

i just want to get this over with... theres a difference between challenging and frustrating

Oh come on.. This fights not hard at all. The only part that's hard to figure out is the Megaflare.
Yet to get past that ;|
The rest of it becomes pretty apparent in moments.

Ive done it 3 times only so far
First try, ran out of time because we didn't understand the drain
Second time, we died on Megaflare because we didn't know what to expect.
Third time, we lagged out before Megaflare or something, half the party dropped, he drained 4k hp, and started Megaflare.

When a game gets too hard for me... I turn it off... sell/trade it... and play another game that I enjoy...

I'm a happy gamer...


The way some of the users go on in this game I wonder if they lose sleep over such things???

I only tried it once, get to 2nd phase, survived Megaflare, nearly killed him, then Meteor smashed down again. Then server congestion, congestion, congestion, congestion...

Just completed the final fight - got it on the 4th attempt.

Really it's just a matter of practice makes perfect, and being able to learn from your mistakes.

Very fun fight - can't wait to see more like it in 2.0!

What the fight is not hard. Why do you want a game to be easy mode? Dont you want a challenge? Do you want everything handed to you? Take your time and learn the fight. I know plenty of casuals who have done this fight, the issue I see is some players dont want to do anything other than have things handed to them on a silver platter. When you are doing content pay attention to what is going on and discuss with the group you are in about whatever it is you are doing. It isnt hard to figure out just take your time. There is no reason for players to jump on the forums and complain that content is too hard other than a very few exceptions. Now considering that this content just came out on wednesday and some1 or some players are already complaining, tells me that you havent taken the time to actually learn a strat for the fight. Also consider you stated that you or they wiped 10 times, you really havent tried hard enough. Its like riding a bike, if you fall off get back up on try again, but giving up after 10 or 15 tries and than complaining it is too hard is not the answer.

I still need 9k seals to do my last promotion....no one is doing Caravan either T-T.

I think almost everyone here would be pissed if it was. This is the final fight for the 7th Umbral Storyline, not some walk through the park for you to calmly enjoy. It's meant to be hard, it's meant to require strategy and it's meant to kick your ass if you don't use any strategy.

Also, it's been stated that the 7th Umbral Event storyline is for CURRENT players. If a few schmucks come in and decide they don't like the fight because it doesn't hold their hand, then I don't want them in my game to begin with.

Also, your definition of "Casual" insults me, and probably quite a few other people around here. Where, ANYWHERE, does it say Casuals don't want/enjoy fights that require practice, strategy and a good team?

Agreed, I'm a casual player and I'm insulted by it. I found the fight exhilarating hell I even went in with a couple of ls members who had already beat him. We still wiped a about 3-4 times even with knowing the strategy. I loved it. It reminded me of when jobs came out and the group that I was in kept wiping trying to figure out how to beat batraal's uglier cousin barbados. Even with that I loved it and kept saying lets go back in. I loved both of these fights and I think tomorrow if anyone else needs help in my ls I might join them tonight I'm just too tired since it's almost 2 am. You and your friends need to keep trying not complain that it's too hard because you get your asses handed to you a few times.

Finally Defeated Darnus!! :D So happy!! :D, After Battle CS's were epic give me the chills and the thrill of Victory!

Oh really? Swanky.

Its not too hard if you have enough cooperation. Darnus needs to me moved to the same place by the tank every time, and the mages need to stay in the safe zone.

So many things upset me with this thread.

I'm not even going to argue that "It's not hard" or whatever; I think A LOT of the bosses and fights in this game are hard. I have a lot of trouble with them, especially as a tank and not having much experience with this role from other games.

What I AM going to argue is that you're expecting to win simply because you sunk a lot of time into playing it. That type of mentality is for an 'interactive experience', not a 'game'.

You say you kept getting wiped by AOE's... so, what did you do differently each time you went in? Every time I fail a boss fight, I discuss with the team what went wrong. On this one, it kept coming down to my tanking skills, so people gave me advice on better tanking methods. Sure enough, we got better each time.

If you still fail, then ask other people! I know people seem HORRIFIED in this game to communicate and be social, but you'll learn quite a bit if you do a few shouts to ask about strategies on the part that's beating you. Combine what everyone has learned and see if that solves the issue; that's half the point of an MMO.

Heck, even I still haven't beat the fight! Something you need to accept with a FF MMO is that they are HARD games. They are not push overs and require a lot of failures. It sounds like you have people that don't like to fail and... well, they simply need to go play other games. The dev team has done quite a bit to make this game more accessible. At this point, they can't go much further, less they're going to make it a cakewalk.

No, a story mission shouldn't be easy simply because it's a story mission. Was the final fight of any other FF game easy, simply because it was a story mission? No, they weren't. They were all challenging in their own regards. We have awhile before the 2.0 beta starts; unless you're going on vacation or something, you have plenty of time to beat this fight. If you don't have the time, then I'm not sure why you're paying a monthly subscription for something you don't have time for.

TLDR; toughen up :P

Lag varies by server, you can't possibly speak for every server in every situation and neither can anyone else

Beat him just now with some randoms.
A few knew the fight so it helped and we wiped the first time but after that we beat him.
Actually i was really surprised by how fast this fight was over, but it was really fun.
I love to play drg and i was able to play it at this fight too.
I died 2 times, one cause of normal legsweep. (yeah i played the risk card even though it was totally unnessecary)
2nd was that double legsweep at the end, the 2nd hit me even though i was at the edge.(that was a surprise)

About Ifrit...im in European region which was said to have the worst Server Lag?
After i got used to Ifrit i never got hit by Eruption, except when i was somewhere else with my head and got caught in animation lock. (or i simply screw up)
Sometimes if i play with other people i see how much longer they need to get away, even though i was already miles away, at least it looks like it from my perspective lol.
And im not a Hardcore, hell im not even really playing often atm. (but i think im at least ok as drg lol)

But this fight gave me a FF feeling.

Beat this in a few tries in a pug. It really wasn't that hard. It was harder getting full group together then the actual fight. The leader sitting there shouting took awhile. That says something when finding people is the hardest part of doing content is sitting there shouting for people.

Try getting a group together in FFXI....now THAT'S hard....

Just beat him tonight with a pick up group, took us about 4 or 5 tries, but DAMN was it fun. Just learn the strategy, and you should beat him just fine, though it's still hard.. just the way it should be.

I wouldn't have such a problem with the fight being hard if I didnt only have 2~ months to defeat it, it puts added pressure on me I don't appreciate.

Yes I am, I work so I'm not logged in 24/7 and don't have an endgame shell. I mostly log in during JP time so it's hard for me to get groups. Also I'm sure im not the only one.

If you don't have 2 hours to play in 3 months then I really don't think you should be paying for this game.

I understand you might not have alot of time but I mean really now?

If you can't find the time to get a PUG for this fight you just might need to accept that you can't do everything a MMO has to offer if you can't...you know play it very often.

This is just one of the problems with FFXIV. If you miss the bus on something its very hard to get people to do it. In uldah you will see people shouting for AF body quests for a few hours and always have only 2 or 3 people and they are trying to get more. Today I saw a guy shout for about 3 hours for "United We Stand" last patchs quest he could only get 3 people. Its already started to happen with the final gc quest. Not to many shouts for it now and the ones that do are taking a very long time to fill.

Seems to be an initial rush on quest then it comes to the point where people are sitting there shouting in town forever without getting anyone to do the quest they are on.

I definitely can understand where people are coming from with not being able to find people to do stuff with. Some AF body quests the DRG one in particular had me shouting in Uldah for 5 hours before I had 6 people interested at that point we decided to try it and it was enough to finish the quest.

One of the things SE needs to address finishing your storyline quest shouldn't be so frustratingly hard because you can't find a group for it. They are adding a content finder but will it work for quests?

The only thing that can cure such issues is a larger player base. Hopefully something we will see with 2.0. As it stands you pretty much require a group of people you know to assist you with group content because PUGs are few and fare between for anything but the most new content.

Just beat him tonight, it's a nice challenge ^^ Rendering the fight now. As long as everyone knows what to do and is assigned a task, the fight goes super smoothly. It took my group about 3 or 4 tries to get it down pat.
