just curious for those having these issues.. do you by any chance have origin /epic games launcher installed?
You shouldnt have any issue if you put limit to 60. Stuttering and other issues dissappear. But some people still aiming for play a MMO like they re playing to League of legends with 200 fps. It doesnt matter, put 60 and the drama of the 90% forum is done.
The frame limit doesn't matter. The stuttering still happens both when I limit it to 30 fps, and when I ticked the 'Limit frame rate when client is inactive' tickbox, which puts the game at 15fps when you tab out. I tabbed out and ran around and it still happened.
After trying several things I found some solution in the meantime before dev try to figure out the issue is, for me at least.
The issue that is from
Screen Mode = Full Screen
with
Framerate = Main Display Refresh Rate
- This setting will cause Frametime stuttering "Spike", hard.
To fix this on my end
Screen Mode = Borderless Windowed
with
Framerate = Main Display Refresh Rate
With this setting, I may not get a smooth Frametime line (if you use MSI Afterburner to check that) like I use Full Screen mode but.....
The Frametime Spike is much less and almost unnoticeable during gameplay and some intense boss fights. and my FPS still reaches the native Monitor Frame Hz (mine is 75hz)
I don't know if my reply may help or not but I'll leave it here.
PS. My PC Spec is (If dev seen my post)
CPU: Intel 14700
RAM: 32Gb (16x2) 6000Mhz
GPU: GTX 1080
Monitor: Dell SE2717H (Native: 1920x1080 75hz)
Storage: SSD 1TB (Where my FF14 is installed)
That didn't fix it for me or for my friends. Still getting a random stutter where the game seems to pause for a split second and then continue on. SE needs to fix this asap.
Have you tried disabling HVCI/Core Isolation in windows? That was causing stutters every couple of hours/days for me, and I would get "IsolatedUserMode" events in event viewer. If there are events from that source that coincide with the timing of the stutters, that may be it.
I've done the memory integrity thing, but not the other. I don't feel like I should have to make my computer less secure because of bad programming in XIV.
I agree. My understanding is that core isolation (disabling core isolation is the same as disabling HVCI I believe) is an extra layer of protection that will really only matter if you're spending a lot of time pirating things off of dodgy websites. So obviously it's up to you if that's a (relatively small) risk you're willing to take.
I thought I had a reprieve after the latest Nvidia update but nope.
I have tried toggling everything to potato settings like everyone else has and yeah like everyone says your FPS doesn't matter and it can be very high, it will still do a major 1-2 second stutter/freeze at random then rocket back to normal framerate, it's making the game unplayable when it happens as if it freezes during a quick mechanic you're toast.
Wish there was some recognition that this is an accepted bug and they were looking for a solution :(
My personal concern is that there is STILL not a word from Support on this. Is this being looked at or will it stay this way?
SE doesn't seem to be interested in acknowledging the issue. They copy/paste the same solutions every time it's brought up.
I'm starting to wonder if it's the NVIDIA DLSS that was introduced. I changed mine to the AMD FSR option and it seems to do it less.
edit.. i take that back.
I Get The Odd 5 Fps Drop At Times But Seems To Be Fairly Good Now :)
It sucked in 7.0 and then got better 2 weeks later but then sucks again after 7.05. Not sure what changed. It makes some fights unplayable. I noticed it for black cat's left/right claw and honey b's raid wide drop me to 40fps but only since 7.05.
Honestly for me, deleting origin/epic launcher fixed my fps drop issues.. or at least definitely helped.. if you are having issues try uninstall those.
I dont know if i have the fps issues since launch, maybe since the latest patch. Before that i constantly had 143-144 fps (locked for gsync) in Shirogane. Now it variates around 105 to 144. Its really annoying because i am very sensitive when it comes to microstuttering. Even at max fps i can see a bit of microstuttering when i run sidewards along a fence or wall looking directly at it. Or while some dungeon bosses when they do certain attacks. You can really feel the microstutter/slowdown. Tried everything, lowering every setting, switching between the newly added upscalers, disable second monitor, update drivers, re-check bios settings. Even some advises here from the users (thanks for that, i really appreciate tips that could help), but nothing helps. Either my system is broken or something changed since dawntrail that caused that issue... I really hope Square looks into threads like this and they investigate. Because nothing else changed on my side since DT.
Alright, tried today those 3 of the 9 listed things on the image, Number 4. , 5. and 8.

So far no fps drops, youtube running while both ff14 clients are up.

Had problems with stuttering since day 1, it looked random at first but it was happening during some bosses skills, like the claw in m1s.
My pc spec shouldn't have any problem running the game. Ryzen 7700x and a 4080 super, installed in a m.2 and i have 32ram at 5200mhz
Tried a lot of thing to fix the stuttering and while i did manage to solve it for a day, it came back the next time i booted the game.
What i noticed using RTSS is that the frametime wasnt stable at all, was hovering between 6.9 and 7.1 and the only time i manage to solve my stuttering the frametime was stable at 6.9.
Im capping the ingame FPS to my monitor refresh rate using the ingame setting and today i decided to disable the ingame fps cap and force it using RTSS.
And the frametimes became stable again and had 0 stuttering in m3s during all the fight, game was stable at 144fps without dips with everything maxed.
This looks like it fixed my stuttering problem so anyone with the same issues can try using rivatuner to cap their fps. (i did try using nvidia fps limiter but the game complety ignores it for me.)
I just did this, coincidentally in M3S aswell. It made the problem 100 times worse. Seems there is just nothing at all consistent with this issue. Needs a dev fix.
Has Square Enix acknowledged the issue yet? There's post after post after post after post about this, with the same cookie cutter copy/paste solutions to try that never work.
I heard they announced an announcement for the end of the month about some upcoming fixes for issues introduced by the graphics update. But I haven't seen this announced announcement with my own eyes, so maybe it's bullshit?
i had the same problem. nothing works.
I have deactivated the following devices in the device manager
Device Manager - Software Devices
-Microsoft Device Association Root Enumerator
-Microsoft RRAS Root Enumerator
this fixed the problem for me. no fps drops or freezes
Disabling those didn't fix it for me unfortunately. SE needs to fix this.
Just played after patch this morning, I don't know how but with nothing changed on my end it's sadly made the problem even worse. The stutter/drops are even more random and frequent. Please please someone at SE at least say this is being looked into :(
Last night's patch did not fix the stutter issues that everyone is having on PC. SE, PLEASE FIX THIS.
Also constantly getting this issue since Dawntrail launch, and also use a controller, so disabling and disconnecting every controller isn't a viable solution. Would be wonderful to have some form of acknowledgement from the devs about this.
I think I may know the issue now....just maybe in my case.
Try this and see if it goes same way as my
*This is not a fix the issue, but to test on varieties of PCs if my curious is true or not
I just recently change from GTX 1080 to RTX 3080 (from my brother, he upgrade his GPU) the issue is still there. but one thing that I noticed from my last post here.
Maybe the issue is tied to Unfamiliar framerate numbers.
In Display Setting > Frame rate (most down option)
this is where we limited our framerate cap, for gameplay we use on, None (Uncapped), 30FPS, 60FPS and Main Monitor Refresh Rate
Most games nowaday, have both Framerate cap, and VSync, correct? Some may use Framerate cap but not use Vsync because it increases input lag. I used it every games if that game included in the setting, because i dont want to force my GPU and CPU further than my monitor refresh rate. But if no framerate cap option, I will use Vsync to limt framerate even I have to play with high input lag.
In FF14, there is no Vsync, Our only option is; Main Monitor Refresh Rate at Framerate option. Game will sync your FPS number tied to you monitor. and that where is come the issue.
In Reality, there is so much variety of Refresh Rate Monitor hz, but Standard are; Commons, 60hz 120hz 144hz.......Esport level; 240hz 360hz 480hz and more
With these numbers in mind, other than these numbers are uncommon and unfamiliar to many developers. Like myself, I use Dell SE2717H/HX, 60hz Monitor but.....my Monitor can OC up to 75hz(74.95hz) my framerate can up to 75FPS as native as well. this number 75 is umcommon even some of you may not recognized and never heard it before.
Sound weird I know, but when I cap the framerate setting down to 60FPS. the stuttering seems gone. Yes the game look worse and not smooth with lower fps from monitor native setting, but it no sign of stuttering at all. I still see some frametime dip, but it's so minimal and unnoticable during i run around where I tested (Tuliyollal)
Just wanted to post to say I've had the same issues, predominantly while raiding - which is very frustrating.
I have a fairly good PC:
13th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-13700F 2.10 GHz
32GB RAM DDR5
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070
and I've been having freezing for about 5 seconds during raids, while the audio continues, and then it catches up and stutters back to real time afterwards. I've wiped the raid to several mechanics doing this. I've done many things to try and fix it:
- Clean installed my GPU drivers
- Played on lowest settings
- sfc scannow to clean corrupt files
- Updated my BiOS
- Took my computer to the store and got hardware diagnostics to confirm everything is working well
- Reinstalled windows
- Reinstalled the game
- Disabled microsoft device root enumerator
- Optimized my GPU settings
- Disconnecting unused USB devices
- Checked my temps, my CPU and GPU usage during - all fine
- Checked the event viewer logs: nothing
- Tried borderless windowed, windowed, and full screen modes
I didnt want to believe it was a game issue but truly I don't know what else I can do. It's frustrating because I do raid ultimates and savage, and I'm wiping my party unpredictably because of my screen freezing. It's really sad.
Problem came back after 2 days. And i just saw something quite weird while doing a dungeon, it looked like the game suddenly moved at 30fps for a few seconds but the fps counter showed no change. Happened a few times.
Im honestly out of ideas, tried everything but i don't know what could by causing this or its something specific in the engine.
Tried reseting my pc today, so im going to try now.
Players shouldn't have to cap their framerate to not have stuttering issues. It's also not tied to a hardware change for many of us, because nothing changed in our hardware. It started happening when Dawntrail launched.
It's almost assuredly tied to the controller settings they rewrote recently given the amount of people here and on the subreddit who have solved the issue by disabling their gamepads and unplugging them from their computer, but again, this isn't an acceptable "fix" given how many play on controller. It needs to be fixed and acknowledged by the dev team.
So I have also been experiencing random 1 second stuttering for the past 2 weeks or so. Happened randomly after a series of things performed on my computer like Windows updates, to software updates, BIOS updates, driver updates like nVidia or chipset drivers, etc. Out of the blue it started happening whether in raiding, dungeons, frontlines... basically everywhere. It would happen once between 10-45 minutes. Even after reinstalling Windows 11, reinstalling drivers, even reinstalling FF14, the stuttering still happened.
Just now, I have been able to a confirmed solution that has resolved the stuttering issues for me and have been stutter-free for 12 hours now. This solution may only apply to those that uses Logitech peripherals. But here is my setup just in case someone has something similar is going through the same process trying to figure out what causing your stuttering:
CPU: AMD 7950x
Memory: 64GB
GPU: RTX 4090 (overclocked)
Mouse: Logitech G502 X Plus + Logitech Powerplay
Keyboard: Logitech G915
Audio: Logitech G560 (speakers), GOXLR
Other: Mutiple Elgato Stream Decks + Stream Pedal.
OS: Windows 11 23H2
Cooling: Corsair QL fans, Corsair pumps
Software: Logitech GHUB, Corsair ICUE, BitDefender, Wallpaper Engine (paused while 14 is in focus), Voicemeeter, EVGA Precision X1
Driver: nVidia 560.94, AMD chipset drivers 6.07.22.037
FF14: 2024.08.21.0000.0000 (10710093) non-steam version
FF14 Settings: Borderless Windowed, Resolution - 3840x1600, Frame Rate Cap - None, Graphic Settings - Custom, UI - High 4K, Graphics Upscaling - Nvidia DLSS, Frame Rate Threshold - Always Enabled, every graphics setting at highest, depth of field off,
If you have something similar, especially Logitech peripherals. Continue reading...
Troubleshooting
Step 1: Checking error logs
For those who uses Logitech mouse/keyboards or any Logitech peripherals, navigate to "Event Viewer". Under "Event Viewer (local)" tree navigate through "Applications and Service Logs" > Logitech > Lamparray > Driver (Logi-LampArray-Driver) > Errors. Check and see if you have any error events/logs listed there. If you do, click on some of the latest events and you should see the error log message that looks something like this:
Process 9999 has attempted an operation while not having exclusive control over device G915.
Process 9999 has attempted an operation while not having exclusive control over device POWERPLAY / G502 X PLUS.
Process 9999 has attempted an operation while not having exclusive control over device G560. Process name:
To verify whether the stutter is related to this event, leave your event viewer window opened and see if any additional errors pop up when a stutter happens while playing 14. You will need to refresh the event viewer (press F5 within event viewer) after a stutter happens. And if the time of the error happened is exactly when the stutter happened, then most likely it is related. (If not, ignore the rest and your stuttering issue is not related to this. But if you were like to do your own investigating, continue reading as it might help you pinpoint your root cause of the stutter.) Note down the process number shown in the error log. In the example above I have it shown as 9999. For you, it could be any number and will vary system to system, person to person. It could be a single digit or 5-digit long number. This is the process ID number. We will use to find the process in the next step.
Next step is to perform is identify the process that "could" be the root cause of the stuttering.
Step 2: Verifying the process/service
Open up task manager and navigate to "Details" on the left-hand side of the bar. This will list down all the services that is currently running on your system. You will notice a PID column which will have the process ID number of each individual services that is running on your computer. Click on the column header which will sort through each service in ascending/descending order. This will help with finding the process ID from previous step. Find the process number you found from the error log and identify the name of the service left of it. If the service name shows "logi_lamparray_service", BINGO. Check the status under the status column and see if the service is running. If it is, you have now found the process that is generating the error events and root cause of the stuttering.
Next we'll look into how to stop it and have it disabled.
Solution
Step 3: Finding the logi_lamparray_service in Services
Within task manger, under "Details" tab, right click on "logi_lamparray_service", navigate to properties to "Go to service(s)". This will jump you to the "Services" tab and highlight the service tied to the process which should have the name shown as "logi_lamparray_service" and description "Logitech LampArray Service". Right click on the service and navigate to "Open Services". This will open the "Services" window which will now list out all the services you have running and not running. Find theLogitech LampArray Service under the "Name" column. Right click and select "Properties".
Step 4: Stopping the logi_lamparray_service and disabling it
On the general tab for the Logitech LampArray Service Properties windows, change Startup type to "Disable" and Click on the "Stop" button to stop the service if the Service Status shows as running. Click OK once this is done.
Testing
Step 5: Validate if the solution works
Start by playing 14 and run some dungeons, frontlines, raids, whatever it was when you were experiencing the stuttering. Test it out at least for at least for 4-8 hours. If you aren't experiencing any stuttering any more, then you have finally fixed "YOUR" issue that is causing the stuttering.
The Why
What is "logi_lamparray_service". Logitech LampArray service is a service that handles the lighting for your devices. From my understanding it is a service that allows other applications (Discord, ICUE, or any lighting controlling software) or the OS (in this case, Dynamic Lighting feature in Windows 11) to control the lighting on your Logitech peripherals to sync based on events or notifications or even games. However, for some odd reason, whatever software or the OS is unable make the necessary changes to the lighting of the of your Logitech peripherals causing it to "stun" your PC due to software or OS is spamming some sort of configuration change request to change your lights on your Logitech peripherals. I believe this could be a Logitech bug introduced in an update 2 weeks ago as this was the first time I have experience a "table flipping", "hair pulling" stuttering with 14. If you have no use for having software like Discord, ICUE, Wallpaper Engine or even Windows 11 to dynamically change the color of the lights based on mood or whats on your screen, go ahead and stop it, disabled it, and prevent it from starting up every time you boot your computer.
Other Possible Solutions
If the above didn't fix the stuttering you have, check some of the points below after doing intensive research trying to fix my issue but didn't work for me, but may work for you:
- Stop or uninstalling Corsair ICUE (didn't work for me, verified and reinstalled it)
- Disable Dynamic Lights within Windows 11 (didn't work for me, let it disabled since I didn't need it)
- Stop or uninstall any overclocking software like MSI Afterburner or EVGA Precision X1. Noticed that from a lot of post that software sensor that happens at an interval can cause stuttering. (didn't work for me, turned it back after verifying)
- Stop or pause Wallpaper Engine (didn't work for me, turned it back after verifying)
- Disabling Microsoft Device Association Root Enumerator and Microsoft RRAS Root Enumerator (didn't work for me, turned it back after verifying)
I wanted to share this just in case this is a solution to someone out there as I truly understand how frustrating it could be especially not being to play the game in the best experience as possible. May be this why SE hasn't really come out and address the issue/bug as there a million variables out there. No one has the same setup, or software installed. There are even different of version of the software you have, drivers and even OS. Maybe it is because of the Dawntrail update that causing issue. If so, it is going to be very difficult to pinpoint what the issue is and will have to rely on people's feedback. For me, it wasn't Dawntrail.
If this solution helped you, please let me know and everyone else here. If it doesn't, I'm sorry and I hope you find a solution. Maybe the steps above will help you identify what your issue could be. Good luck!
I only have a logitech camera, and it stutters when it's not plugged in. I can't believe SE hasn't addressed this yet. That's more frustrating than the stutter itself.
I'm not saying this issue is not from the DT expansion, Yes it clearly is. I never have this issue back in ShB and EW expansion patches. It's start in DT
My post is already stupid but it does something in my case that may lead to the issue and I just post it here for information also not the fix but to test only
because it may have something to do with it that's all.
And about Controller Setting, I dont know and im not sure about it either. Because I dont use Gamepad or any controller to play FF14.
While Dev are still not do any respond to look into this matter, We player can only, find it and solve it on our own while wait for the official announcement and fix patches. There must be something within the coding.
I'm going to try capping my FPS at 60 and see if the stutter goes away.
So far at 60FPS i've only had the audio stutter, not the FPS stutter.. let's see if it happens.
Nope, does not resolve the issue of the stutter.
