No, as I stated I am not for open world PvP. I think it should be Arena only because of the nature in which they are doing PvP. However, if they decide to make PvP open world you won't see a single gripe from me.
IMO there is no reason to showboat your E-Peen in the middle of Ul'dah and it makes no sense lore wise.
If you want people to be able to watch your fights in the Arena however, that is perfectly ok.

Actually regarding the character balance is where you are wrong. Reason being and this is something that always has been done for FFXI and will continue in FFXIV is that the Devs will end up breaking or reducing the power of classes and or jobs to "balance" the other jobs. There will never be complete balance and there never will. All SE and the Dev's will end up doing is destroying 1 class or job in order to "Balance" anything.
Also on ur 5th comment, yes in fact if SE continues to cater to all the crying over this and that FFXIV will become a WoW clone or at most just another standard MMO thats boring and plain that dosent stand out above the rest. The issue is yes some feed back is needed but FFXIV has gotten so much feed back on what it needs by the players that, if they dont stop implimenting all these ideas, it will end up destroying the game.
Would you want to play PvP in game where a class like archer could endless kite an opponent by using the shadow bind combo, binding a player in place then continuing to pelt a player before bind wears before resuming the kite chase. Or what about a Thaumaturge inside a closed instance that is capable of striking anything within a large radius well outside the range of any melee class. It would also have the added benefit of not having to build TP or engage active mode.
The classes/jobs in the game are designed for specific roles. It's why you are able to swap our class/job at almost anytime. So any player can fill that role by changing it's class.
Personally, and even though Yoshi-P has stated that classes will be receiving more abilities in 2.0, some being added with PvP balance in mind... the whole "rock paper scissors" that the current class design would be rather interesting to think about in a PvP environment.
Similar to how PvE battles are currently, where there are different setups depending on different boss mechanics, it will be interesting to see how PvP teams adapt and react, which builds will be the most used, etc. It would be interesting if you were allowed to change classes in a PvP battlefield for example, to see if teams were allowed to change their strategy dramatically on the fly.
While I can understand that some people would want every class to be equally viable in every PvP scenario - in a game that lets you level every job/class on a single character, and lets you adapt to any situation as long as you have put the effort in... There is less need to balance each class individually and this allows the jobs and classes to maintain their individuality and unique flavor.
As much as I know people hate seeing "WoW" used as an example on these forums, the game was ruined for me personally at the end of Sunwell, when they chose to homogenize the classes. I played a Shadow Priest at the time and I loved being a mana battery, a true support role. I didn't feel the need at all to be competitive DPS wise, I loved my niche role. That was taken away from me, and so I lost interest.
