Why do FCs get 75% of the wards?

I appreciate SE's commitment to finding the worst possible solutions for the housing issues in this game. It's impressive, really. They always find a way to make it either worse or exactly the same with a slightly different coat of paint. If only they applied that level of creativity to other content.

I kind of think the islands will be instanced housing anyways; It sounds so much like the housing they did in wildstar. People will still whine about houses in the wards anyways though, the rarity makes them the most premium afterall

To be honest, I do prefer the lottery way more than placard. The few times I experienced the first come first serve only meant ALL the houses or most would be gone. The only ones that were left were ones in terrible spots. Right now there is a low count of people going for each private available and I expect that to jump the closer we get to Saturday. However, them putting more attention to FCs and not learning that Private houses are more valuable is really irking me. Just because they have extra features does not put them on a higher pedestal. Never mind the fact that not everyone wants to rely on someone else to allow them to buy a closet to decorate.

Curious how this first round will play out.

EDIT: If it gives me what I am looking for in housing, I'd gladly drop my ward housing for a Sanctuary house and get off the grid. :D

If anything FC should really be the only ones allowed to buy houses, way more people involved with an FC, not to mention they provide private rooms, sooo yeah... Devs really should have focused on improving apartments, upgradeable med or large sizes and an indoor crossbreeding planter and a majority of folks would be perfectly pleased. Theres really no reason a player should have any of the current houses...

I completely disagree with you on the majority of what you posted here. So, what is the basis or reason that a player shouldn't be able to have a house? You say there's no reason to have a house, yet in the same breath you talk about upgrading existing housing for players making the "majority of folks perfectly pleased". The only thing that I do agree with you about is improvements.

Would you still say that there is "no reason a player should have any current houses" if it were all instanced?

Like crafting and gathering, there are people who live in this game for housing.

Lesson learn, only believe half on what SE says and there will always be a hidden agenda on patch morning we didn’t know about.

Firmament was planned for well over two years, why did SE wait till patch morning to spring the 75% FC rule on us? Trust goes a long ways and I believe SE just burned some of it with the players.

You should never trust what SE says and focus on what SE does. There’s a lot of time between when islands are supposed to release and when Zepla Gave the interview. I hope content doesn’t get cut for time but it’s always a possibility.

Zepla just pointed to the Meoni/Yoshi interview, and really the wording of the translator was quite ambiguous.

"People want housing, and outdoor decorating, and furniture. This will be a whole level over that." - to me what the translator said was "you want housing, this isnt it, but we think it's more fun"

Earlier in the interview he was talking about if you wanted a certain wood used for the "placable buildings" you could grow it on your farm and harvest it.

I simply have little faith Yoshida-san understands the Western market, he is hyperfocussed on the very different wants of Japan. Hoth ears and what was later said (paraphrasing again) "we didn't expect the kemono (furries) would care about their ears" should show it.

And that's fine, it's his game and all. But people rally need to stop getting their hopes up that this will be housing. It won't.

Workshop, more living space in terms of rooms, and a far larger group to accommodate vs the single + few guest a private home could. There is literally 1 reason to get a private house and thats crossbreeding, so yeah FC benefit far more...

You guys are dreaming if you think island sanctuary will take a place of a house.

There is a reason why there hasn’t been a lot of information let out about what you can and cannot do with that space. Once that information comes out on patch morning, guess we will have another dumpster fire on the forums.

SE had two plus years getting us ready for the firmament housing and what day did they spring the FC surprise on us?

I mean, it's fun to have a private house, I've spent a lot of time decorating my house (and my apartment, and my private room, and even our FC house and some friends houses.) We are here to have fun at the end of the day.

Not that I disagree, I think FCs should have a better chance at housing than private players. Although personally I'd probably have split it so FCs are in the main wards and privates are in the subdivisions. 50/50 split, and it's easier to remember, and it lends itself better to any potential addition of extra wards in the future.

It will be a small farm shed, really rustic.
Enough to fit a bed and a small stove. Just so you can log off there if needed.

Maybe people don’t want to be in an FC and would like a private space to decorate and call their own? Im in my house 95% of the time I’m logged on between running dungeons and while I’m crafting, it’s nice to be away from people

I am selfish and prefer to play alone. So what of it? All of you folks acting like a majority of the people playing this game all want to gather around a fire and sing kumbaya my lord.

I'm all for focusing on collectives first, but when you screw over the possibilities of the individual for the collective then that's just communism, might wanna leave that to China, Square... Also, I could set up a shell company with my alts just to go for the large FC plots if I wanted to, a lot of people are already doing this, so this is meaningless. Just 50/50 it

Japan is a capitalist democracy with an extremely collective-oriented culture. It should come as no surprise to us that their cultural norms are what they build the framework of the game on because that's how they think. In the case of housing, it would be better for the general player base for them to have much more in the way of personal housing options, absolutely. However; it's incumbent on we Western players to understand and respect that this is a game made by Japanese people who have a very different cultural outlook which influences their design decisions.

If you check out Lucky Bancho's recent census you'll see that servers can have 10,000 + active players registered on it even if the max load the server can handle is well below that. That's why we have Congested servers and queues...

1. It's no secret that the fundamental philosophy of housing has been an FC focused thing. They only added personal purchase options when a good portion of houses didn't sell and the player base saw something they didn't have and cried out to get it. It's quite lopsided, but having so many wards be FC only accomplishes two things-

A. Gives FCs plenty of chances to buy a house if they don't have one or relocate if they want to move to Ishgard.

B. Fits their philosophy of FCs being the priority while giving individuals some chance at getting a personal plot, even if it's at the lip service level.

2. Prevent people from preparing shell FCs well ahead of time and cheesing the system even more than it's going to be cheesed. If you tell people that you can't trade FC ownership unless it has X number of players that have been in it for at least 30 days more than 30 days before opening housing it'll be a dumpster fire right out of the gates. Keeping things secret until the last minute is the only way they can prevent people from abusing the system. I think they learned the lesson that players will find a way to abuse any and all systems to get what they want even if it goes against the intention of the design. You can bet your sweet bippy that SE's been tracking housing data, have found the trends regarding shell FCs made for housing, and are well aware of people trading FCs for massive amounts of Gil and/or real money. The only way to deter/mitigate that is to give legit FCs the best opportunity to get a house as they can before the system abusers get into the game.

Collectivism is cancer.

I believe the main reason why they're giving priority to FCs is that one of the primary resource systems for FCs is gated behind housing(the guild workshop/voyages/etc.).

But I hope they add more personal wards. I have a house(it's actually in what is now an fc ward) and it's such fun having your own place in-game like that... so I wish they'd find a way to make it more accessible so everyone can have that.

They should add more wards. They are simply not enough period. People still want houses and can't get them despite paying to play the game.

I could've sworn they said they would add new wards but I'm going to assume Ishgard is the test phase before they do? Since it's the new area, perhaps they're just waiting to see how this all turns out and then proceed to add new wards like they said they would but hell.... this is SE we're talking about and can't take their word so easily...

Simply adding more wards is akin to slapping a bandage on a gaping wound. They've increased the number of wards several times in the past and it has changed very little.

Yeha, it's broken, but look for silver linings and stay happier.

If you don't get your snowy goblet plot, in a few months, there are a bunch of new servers for another chance. When they come online, wait the 90 days housing lockout we had, then enter the raffle again. Consider a solo FC to get access to the FC plots.

Yoshi has also stated this is not anyway replacing housing as well. It is something completely different so until it drops and we learn more of it, i would not hold my breathe on count on it being actual housing.

The fundamental problem is that whilst Ishgard is a good start to fixing things, there's a lot of damage to fix, mostly caused by frankly reckless game design choices. Not limiting houses to 1 per service account Day 1 let Shell FC's buy up the houses and use them for RMT, or just plain hoard them. There's no point blaming the players who DO own 20 houses, because they're not going anywhere any time soon, and they played within the rules. It's the rules that were at fault to begin with.

They should open up the FC wards after 1st or 2nd round of lottery for individual owners otherwise the wards will be so empty and dead

Adding more wards increases supply and isn't Supply < Demand the argument everyone's making? Increasing supply will help alleviate the issue.

I took a peek this morning at some plots in the FC-only areas. Lot of zeros on smalls. Larges have 1-3. I know it is still early, but I expected more people, especially since FCs can have multiple bids - to flood the lottery already.

It does help.

The issue is they still don't add enough supply. It takes so long for them to add houses they'll never even catch up, let alone keep up.

Most people probably waiting till the final day, try to get their bids in on the least bidded plots.

Kupo forgive my ignorance but are there perks to having a huge home (non-FC) besides fluff? I live in a hotel room in Limsa kupo so just wondering I never really tried pushing millions in to a better home lol thank you in advance kupo <3

Houses when they first came out in what 2.1 were FCs only for almost a year until they offered to individuals because there were many patches of empty plots. Still that may have been the most controversial decision they ever made in the game because the demand spike along with having to go along with it for years now they hit the reset button back to what they intended just with a larger player base.

Houses for the most part are for fluff, however...

A personal home would give you a garden for cross-breeding items (there is some gil to be had there if you enjoy it). Apartments let you grow things in pots, but no cross-breeding. Can also have a chocobo stable right on your property if you like, but an apartment gives you the same stable access, so no real gain there.

Back to the fluff stuff, a house allows for more items to be placed vs. an apartment. Based on just a small, you can have 200 interior items vs. the 100 of an apartment. I'd happily give up my house if apartments matched the number of items of a small, but I love my decor too much to downsize atm. :X

Honestly the issue would be mostly solved by just limiting each service account to 1 house.

I know this gets mentioned fairly often, but I imagine the number of people that have multiple homes is probably on the smaller side of things. Would be interesting to see some actual numbers. I think it mainly boils down to the amount of individual players who want a house faaaar outnumber what these poor little servers are capable of providing, and the current system will never come close to keeping up. I could obviously be completely wrong on that, but who knows!

Something that could possibly help, at least in a small way, would be to allow alts on the same service account to fully share any owned home. I imagine that would help curb the desire for a lot of people to get homes on their alt characters as well.

I'm curious if that is the case. Nearly every FC I joined had people offering spare houses to fellow members to live with full access to place/furnish things whereever and however we wanted. Typically because they got in-game married and were now sharing a larger one.
