can we just ask for more hairstyles and beards pls- you know, actual important stuff
OP is kind of right. This game isn't very manly. Too many "femboys" as the internet calls them. All races should look more like a Frank Frazetta art really.
And we cycle back to Western vs Eastern ideals of masculinity.
My cat-boy is in dire need of muscle sliders, particularly as he has a fondness for the Hempen Undershirt and Coeurl Briefs and that combo he can appear very frail.
May the graphics updates of the future allow for hunkier catboys.
While he has gotten some appreciation in MSQ cutscenes and random players....I still imagine him having more muscle.
IDk I have seen people of all sorts here. I like it. It has made me less angry and dramatic as I was in other games. I dont know if I would say players are either more masc or fem, but a healthy mixture of people just having fun
I mean, I'm inclined to agree with you. It's just that "SE only listens to JP" might be a meme, but a real one. I don't really see JP suddenly jumping up and down for some Conan aesthetics (ESO just got a couple in that vein, I am very much a fan of old-pulp-fantasy-power-fantasy lookins) when the bulk of their player base plays lalafell.
OP needs to get out more.
The developers look at Western feedback too. As one example, they noted in interviews that it seemed to be a driving force behind upcoming challenge dungeon content, since they were surprised by the amount of Western feedback that involved requests for harder dungeon content.
I mean, nowadays?
It feels like every Western dev nowadays thinks that having conventional power fantasies is like some great social ill that they need to save us from.
We're at the point where stuff like the Malkavians in Vampire Bloodlines became a big deal because they were a '' poor representation of the mentally ill '', so now we can't have them be wacky and comedic in Bloodlines 2...
There's apparently quite a lot of people who unironically can't separate reality from fantasy.
Only exceptions I can think of really both in regards to Conan-esque male characters and more conventionally feminine female characters are old and are from sometimes over a decade ago.
And the Conan-esque male characters have a tendency to become sad dads or have to become more pacifistic.
In the West when it comes to gaming nowadays it's all average and frumpy people whether men or women, lest some ultra insecure person with actual mental health problems who needs actual help plays it and feels bad.
I mean, best I can think of is that Reaper exists due to Westerners wanting a scythe job. Japan was mostly indifferent to it. I think that's about the extent of how much they listen though, but that's a story for... ten other threads (yikes).
As for this thread...
What.
OP define "feminine" in non-50's Cottagecore terms please?
Because honestly, I've never seen a community as high on testosterone as Roegadyn, Xaela Au Ra, Highlander Hyurs and Hrothgars. Yes, even the ones with flowers on your hair, I see you. You're cute and pretty but everyone knows not to mess with you because you bite. And you bite hard.
Lookin pretty today kirod
Imo someone who plays a Male Viera in a speedo wearing makeup and a flower crown is 500 times more masculine per default for just behaving like a normal human being as a person.
Than someone who plays an Orc in WoW wearing big spiky armor and a huge axe who has unhinged and rage-filled mental breakdowns in voice chat and screeches about '' weebs ''.
A man is someone who's secure in himself and doesn't feel like they have to prove to everyone how manly they are, that's what young boys do.
Only low testosterone levels in this game, boys.
Their characters sure are (even some male model) :D
I mean, they don’t always fully make gameplay changes in response to Western feedback, but I was replying to a forum post about the supposed lack of listening altogether. My Hrothgar self would like to keep his lovely and cute ears for newer hairstyle options, yes.
Nothing is more masculine than a Roe wearing a pink 2B glam.
Now if only we can get a polka dot pattern
I'm a straight dude with an appreciation for women with muscles. Don't judge me.
Me, a nonbinary player, living my best life ignoring the notions of "feminity" and "masculinity" and wearing what I like on my max muscle-max height highlanders
meha personally wont answer that but
Wow is just a bunch of a fat ass wanna be players that sit on their ass filthy and stuffing their face with hot pockets wanna being they are "muscular" while playing some muscler race like orcs
Lost ark is trash so i wont comment on that
I'd say you're probably right, I mean look at male viera and the new Hrothgar hair styles, I'd say FFXIV has jumped on the woke band wagon and has went to virtue signaling about the time SHB came out, especially with how easy it is to get banned for saying something that upsets someone.
But the regular dudes your talking about are still around in large numbers in this game, they probably just ain't posting on the forums.
I know I'm not the most masculine cause I'm just a little lala, but I enjoy playing the innocent hero, but I still pee standing up and have to shake afterwards lol
1. Saying that XIV is on the "woke train" and "virtue signaling" (god I hate these terms) is a bizarre take when this dev team regularly steals from and generally does not do a fantastic job on representing said cultures (the entirety of the Whalaquee, exoticism, etc).
2. Weird flex.
What does that have to do with anything lol.
Muscular female characters can wear skimpy stuff too.
If anything it tends to get less controversy, people mainly complain about female characters in revealing gear when they're conventionally attractive.
If they're muscular or big then a lot of the same people throwing tantrums about it are suddenly okay with it.
I see significantly more judgement towards people for being into conventionally feminine women than I see the other way around at least online.
Usually it comes across like people who complain about '' sexualization '' aren't actually complaining about it but are complaining because it doesn't suit their taste of it.
I even see this with people who fetishize modesty too, they'll throw a tantrum about a woman showing skin but then in the next breath they'll go on about how much sexier it is when they're covered and the irony just goes over their heads.
Uuum.
It's a fictional world, they're taking inspiration from irl countries and cultures it's not intended to be a historical or cultural piece.
The intent isn't to represent said cultures...
Doma isn't intended to represent Japan either it's just inspired by Japan, it's a fictional place and culture.
When you use the term '' steal '' and you approach it from that mindset you're loading what they're doing so much and so unnecessarily.
You're like reading a shit ton of weird intent into it that just isn't there.
I really have very serious doubts too that anyone from these countries and cultures are genuinely offended by it.
Usually it's people on the outside who get upset on their behalf.
I remember this with Cyberpunk 2077 how there was a ton of artificial outrage about it from people on Twitter and game journalists, especially about the Voodoo boys ( the author is black... ).
And it was a bunch of primarily white Americans in the industry getting upset about it while the people from these cultures CD Projekt Red took inspiration from were hype as hell and happy to see it.
